Apter mags

i used to jump right to the explanations for the ratings in PWI and the wrestler (inside had those crappy ratings). looking back now i laugh my ass off @ some of the "controversies"

"we didnt rate ric flair higher because he has the horsemen attack his opponent/gets dq'ed/etc."

Ellner was also worth some chuckles as well

the news was the worst though , because it had to be written so far in advance

and PWI weekly? to compete with the newsletters? what was up with that.

before i discovered sheets i actually kept buying PWI , as it was the only place to keep up with the indies and ECW until ECW came on TV in my area and i got access to the net and the sheets..

any other fond/not so fond apter mag memories?

I got internet access less than 2 years ago, before that I relied on PWI to get the behind the scenes gossip. Which was futile because not only did the magazine hit newstands with news months out of date but it was also kayfabed.

I did enjoy the Japan report as it got me interested in the product but I didn't know how to get a hold of some until I got on-line.

I enjoyed PWI and other mags but haven't bought any since the PWI 500 and probably won't get any until this years PWI 500(I don't buy into the ratings but I like the biographies of the wrestlers.).

Ahhh, the memories... :)

I remember reading an Apter mag where they had some British Royal Family Tree Expert state that Steven Regal's claims of being royalty are untrue and that his family roots were really of those who were thugs. And in the meantime, Davey Boy Smith's family roots were those of loyal blackjacks of the Royal Family and that Princess Di would always let her sons watch British Bulldog matches.

The other memory I have at the moment is them observing Missy Hyatt and realizing that no matter how dumb she appears to be she blurts out intelligent sayings once in awhile that would make you go "WOW".

I used to check out the rankings with most interest, and I always eagerly anticipated the PWI 500 and Year End issues.

In fact, I still buy the PWI Almanac, and I check it very often. But before I got internet acces those magazines were my only news source.

I still look at my magazine collection because of the photography. And I always loved the magazine flashbacks.

I quit getting the London Publishing variety (PWI, Wrestler, Inside Wrestling, etc.) after I got internet access in 1996. Since then, I've bought a couple of WCW Magazines and one Raw Magazine.

There was one issue I didn't buy and I wonder if anyone could post a certain part of it. The issue was from about 1995. It was a wrestling book of lists. I know it was so totally kayfabed, but who were Flair's top ten blondes?

I was always a big fan of Eddie Ellner back in the day. Too bad he left kinda abruptly.

Too bad Eddie Ellener got beat up by a bunch of security guards at the World Series a few years back (It was when the Yankees played the Braves in 96 I thing) when he jumped on the field at Yankees Stadium and tried to spread his mother's ashes  (BTW this is a true story)

Eddie Ellner was a real person? I thought he was Bill Apter.

Nope...100% real, in fact they published a picture of him once I think in the 10th Anniversery issue or something like that

I always liked Ellner's column and Press Conference even though they were fake.
