Guest TestKick Report post Posted August 22, 2002 Does anyone here care about it? Probably not... but I'm gonna be going next week. I'd start a tennis conversation here, but I'm figuring that I'll get flamed.

Guest DrTom Report post Posted August 22, 2002 Eh. There's nothing really wrong with tennis, but it's certainly not my sport of choice to watch. Like a lot of people here, I probably watch the women's matches more, simply because several of them are quite easy on the eyes.

Guest TestKick Report post Posted August 22, 2002 OK, Anna fans, I see we don't like tennis :lol No offense, Anna is beautiful but she brings nothing to tennis, and she's a total bitch that puts down other players despite her playing to 10% of her potential. Actually, I like watching tennis. I used to be quite the Monica Seles mark - thanks to the German guy, she's about 75% of what she used to be. The Williams sisters are very impressive with their raw power, and I think that Serena's gonna take the title again. Mind you, I'd like to see Jelena Dokic win, but I don't think it's her time yet. On the men's side, it's gonna be a war of attrition. To be honest, I don't even know a lot of the names anymore. I don't think he'll win, but I'm looking for James Blake to make an impression and go to the quarters. Hell, he makes it to the round of 32 and they'll start rolling out the Arthur Ashe stories. Hey, is Kuerten playing, or is he injured?
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 28, 2002 Kournikova repeats Wimbledon, out in the first. I don't understand the whole Anna Kournikova thing, as Dokic, Hingis, Hantuchova, and maybe Mauresmo are more attractive and better players.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted August 28, 2002 Kournikova is very hot, but the fact that she can't win really kills a lot of her appeal for me. The fact that Dokic and Hingis CAN win makes them a lot more attractive to me. (edit) and, of course, after I posted this 5th seed Dokic pulls a Kournikova and gets bounced in the 2nd round... Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Yeah, Dokic going out in the second pissed me off too. As long as Hingis and Clijsters and Mauresmo (I have NO diea why I like her) hang in and USA actually covers their matches, well then I'll keep watching. Guest Leena Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Its sad how Dokic played Wednesday, she hardly tried at all. Bovina is a good player but Dokic should have handled her easily. Thats the only reason Im not a big of Jelena, because sometimes she takes a day off. Anna Kournikova is a black eye to womens tennis. There are so many talented players that deserve the attention but she takes it away. A lot of the women are pretty imo too, Capriati, Serena, Venus, Dokic, Monica. I think Anna hurts the game more than shes helping. Lleyton Hewitt is going to repeat this year, hes looked so strong the past few months and he can outlast anybody. Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Venus Williams is a man-beast, I'm sorry. And yeah, Lleyton is gonna win. C'moan!!
Guest starvenger Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Venus Williams is a man-beast, I'm sorry. True, but did you see Serena's outfit? I mean, she's a butterface, but she looked pretty damn good. I'd say her ass is about a 0.8 Shakira... btw my theory on you having a thing for Mauresmo is that you think you can bring her back - or you want a threesome. Guest Leena Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Whats with the "Williams are men" comments? Venus is long and slender like 90% of the other girls on tour.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 30, 2002 She's long and slender but so is a horse's face. I kinda wish Corina Morariu had a better draw than having to face the No. 1 in the first round. That sorta destroys any success story you could've given her instead of making her big return match a foregone conclusion.

Yeah, the Mauresmo thing must be some weird subliminal thing like you mentioned. It's weird, I'll admit, but I think Choken One has the most scrambled sexuality of anyone here, what with watching lesbian porn with his cousin and all. That sorta destroys any success story you could've given her instead of making her big return match a foregone conclusion. Fair enough about Venus, but I do think thats kind of a rash statement. Corina was actually very excited about playing Serena in the 1st round. I've read the same comment about how Corina got a bad draw, and I understand it, but thats not at all how the real competitors think. For instance, Corina took Steffi Graf to a tight 3-setter in '98, and she got more fan support, and Corina was much happier giving a legendary player a tight match, then beating some qualifier in the 1st round. Corina just coming back is a big story in itself. From the horrible she suffered at Wimbledon, to her battle she still has with cancer, to be back on the tour at all... and its incredible she gave Serena a fairly tough match. Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 30, 2002 I saw excerpts of her match during the rain delay this afternoon and it was uplifting to see her come back from leukemia and all, but it sorta got my spirits down to watch her get beat pretty bad by Serena who was obviously going easy on her, know what I mean?
Guest Leena Report post Posted August 30, 2002 I understand what you mean, but Corina still played really, really well and was competitive. The first set was really tight. Serena did make a lot of errors, but Corina did handle Serena's pace fairly well. Also, if Corina were to play a lower-ranked player, it would have been on an outer court, not on TV and nobody would have cared until she played a top-ranked player on a show court. Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 30, 2002 You do have a point. USA Network (who just think, this time two years ago our RAW would be pre-empted) tends to not show as many matches for the U.S. Open as TNT does for Wimbledon, USA just kinda sticks to one thing even during boring stretches...for Wimbledon they boucne around from match to match to match and just about everyone gets camera time for a while. On a completely unrelated note, I like to watch tennis and all but one man can only stand so much Jim Courier before you wanna just punch the guy, I'm sorry. I know what you mean. It has to be the hair. I mean, when he wore the hat all the time I wasn't annoyed, but the alomst-a-mullet bothers me...

On a completely unrelated note, I like to watch tennis and all but one man can only stand so much Jim Courier before you wanna just punch the guy, I'm sorry. I think USA does a good job showing different matches, the same as TNT. It's different with Wimbledon though, because there's no night matches, they start play at 1 P.M., and it rains constantly thus forcing some of the better players to be on the smaller courts. While USA does tend to showcase the American players too much at times, it's much worse in France, where they will show entire matches of French qualifiers who have no chance of doing anything in the tournament. I like Jim Courier as an announcer. He does tend to get silly sometimes, but that's kind of to be expected especially on TNT's marathon coverage of Wimbledon. He seems better in smaller doses with USA now. At least Jim is knowledgable about tennis, which many announcers today can't boast about. When Jim stopped wearing the hat, that's when his career fizzled out, and he was losing 1st round most of the time. The mullet should definitely have been hidden. Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 31, 2002 If he talks about bagels and breadsticks anymore they should be shoved up his ass. Tracy Austin is rather grating too. On another note, I'm righteously pissed that Phillipoussis and Krajicek, who had the most exciting match at Wimbledon (stretched for three days I believe due to rain and time contraints, was all tiebreaks up until the last set which I think went past a 7-5 margin) both had to retire in the first round. I was totally pulling for Krajicek to get to the finals and take Hewitt on but he choked in the quarters and Hewitt beat that Nalbandian punk(also out in the first)Sorta like Kuerten took out Safin this morning who had had a great first-rounder early this week. Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 31, 2002 Mauresmo wins 6-1 6-4, that's good.
Guest Leena Report post Posted August 31, 2002 Hewitt-Blake is on now, and this is a really exciting match to play. The days of 3 shots or less points are over in men's tennis, and thank goodness for that. It's sad about Philippoussis's knee problems. They started right when he was building his game, and learned to be more than just hitting the ball as hard as he could every shot. Philippoussis really could have done something this year, because Schalken was playing quite well in that match, and Mark was easily crushing him. There's no way Krajicek would have gone far in the Open. The only reason he did somewhat well at Wimbledon was because of his serve. Kuerten beat Safin, but Safin made tons of errors, and has been going through one of his psycho stages of late.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 31, 2002 I guess I was wrong about Blake being an overrated hyped-up media creation, he's playing quite well. But he still does get way too much attention just for being an African-American with a flamboyant hairstyle. If Hewitt does drop the match I wonder if he's gonna lose it and just start screaming at everyone. Oh by the way am I the only one that now hates Greg Rusedski after last night? If Paradorn Srichaphan won that match, he could've gone for the distinction of taking out Agassi and Sampras at consecutive Grand Slams. He seems like such a fan favorite too. EDIT: By the way I think Krajicek would've only gotten to the second or third at best at the Open, but Phillipoussis could've definitely made the round of 16 had his knee not gotten busted. I was referring to Wimbledon where Krajicek finally beat Phillipoussis and then barely got beaten by Malisse in the quarters, t was there that he was a sentimental favorite to get to the finals and have a final between the #1 and the #1093 or something. Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted September 1, 2002 There's actually been some great men's matches this year, like Safin/Keifer, Blake/Hewitt, and others I can't recall. By the way, Anna has won 15 doubles tournaments.
Guest Leena Report post Posted September 1, 2002 Blake's definitely not overrated, and doesn't get too much attention. It's just surprising how quickly he's gotten good. He's #27 in the world after just 1 year on the tour, and only going up considering he has no points to defend for the next 6 months. I think it's wrong to say he gets attention for being African-American. He's getting attention (in the US, at least) for being a very promising young player. He beat Andre Agassi at Washington, who's been on the top of his game this summer. Everyone hates the lumbering, big server who beats the exciting, athletic player. I'm 6'3, and get those comments where people think you're only good because of your size, so I feel for players like that. I think Philippoussis could win any major. When he's on, nobody beats him, even on clay. Safin's much the same way. The problem, of course, is when he's not on with his low margin for error, he can lose to anyone. By the way, Anna has won 15 doubles tournaments. Off the top of your head, do you know who the #1 Women's Doubles team in the world is? Well, they also played 2 young American girls who shouldn't have been in the draw, like Anna & Martina did, yet they played a day match on Court 13. I would think the best women's doubles team would be the first to bump a men's match completely off the night schedule. Watching Anna bounce up and down, must be so much more compelling than putting on a heated Hewitt-Blake match at night, that everyone knew would be great. What about the dream 1st round mixed doubles match with Stubbs-Woodbridge vs Navratilova-Paes? Nope, they only got the 3rd best court. Last I knew, Navratilova had a few more than 15 doubles titles. I'm sorry, but you can't make any argument saying Anna is good for tennis.
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I wasn't saying that to point out the she is good for tennis. Just saying she's not a total loser.
