Guest cartman Report post Posted August 22, 2002 No way, Baseball Players and Owners read newspapers and listen to radio just like everyone else...they know the fans are sick and pissed off at the whole situation and if they do strike you can kiss tem goodbye. They know the risks and they arent willing to take them.

Guest DrTom Report post Posted August 22, 2002 I don't think there will be. The strike deadline is a negotiating ploy to force both sides to come to the table in seriousness and good faith. If significant progress has been made, but no deal reached when the deadline lapses, I think they'll extend it and try to get something done. There's going to be a lot of rhetoric on both sides, but I'd look for an eleventh-hour deal that keeps the players on the field.
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted August 22, 2002 I'm fairly sure there will be one. That just seems to be the way things are going, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the owners cave again.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 22, 2002 The owners have lowered their revenue sharing proposal. Know if the players could *gasp* think about the game instead of themselves and agree to lower their luxury tax proposal down to about 118 million than a deal might get done. No I don't think they'll strike. The players are already getting destroyed. They'd be full blown "heels" if a strike occurs.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted August 22, 2002 well everyone i know favors the owners, because even the league minimum is a healthy salary anywhere else
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted August 22, 2002 As Verne said most of the players know that they'd be blamed for this. Those who don't shouldn't be in a position to vote on the strike. The difference between the owners and the players in the fan's minds is that other than Steinbrenner none of the owners flaunt their money around so the fans aren't as resentful of them, plus the owners actually did something other than play a "kid's game" to earn their money. The players get very little sympathy because of this and they don't deserve any, they aren't going to lose any rights or any money. The contracts would just be structured differently, like Clemens' deal where he gets paid $15 million next year without being under contract. The Yanks wanted to keep their payroll down apparently. (excuse me while I bust out laughing). When the luxory tax comes in they'll do that. It would actually be better for the players.
