Guest converge241 Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 pretty self-explanitory I will not. Im sooooo much less of a fan than i was pre last strike
Guest jimmy no nose Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I will only if something significant comes from this strike. If they come up with some kind of way to eliminate the financial gap between many of the teams then I'll like the game more than I do now. If the owners end up caving again then I'll probably stop paying attention to anything related to baseball. There was one owner, I forget who, that said he and up to 9 other owners are willing to just not have their teams play for a couple seasons, so maybe this time the owners are serious about getting the deal to go in their favor.

I think that was the Padres owner saying that. I truthfully haven't been much of a fan since Harry Caray died.
Guest razazteca Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I quit buying baseball cards and other baseball related itemswhen the last strike happened.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I follow baseball generally, and if they strike and come back my habits won't change. Then again, I don't go to games or buy merchandise, so MLB doesn't give a crap about how I feel.
Guest Grenouille Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I quit buying baseball cards and other baseball related itemswhen the last strike happened. That's what happened with me too. I didn't come back until the Red Sox became respectable again.
Guest DragonflyKid Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 QUOTE (razazteca @ Aug 22 2002, 12:48 PM) I quit buying baseball cards and other baseball related itemswhen the last strike happened. That's what happened with me too. I didn't come back until the Red Sox became respectable again. That's what the fans need to do, I am a baseball fan and will continue watching(Even with a bad taste in my mouth.) but won't waste my money on MLB merchandise. I won't deprieve myself of entertainment but I will and hope fans as a whole will send a message by stop buying merchandise altogether. MLB makes millions off of merchandise, but buying merchandise does not increase one's enjoyment of a baseball game. If the players and owners don't repect the fans, the fans shouldn't support them by purchasing items that are only means to showing support.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I stopped buying baseball cards as well. If they strike and wipe out the world series- I'm out
Guest meanmaisch Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I'll be back. I'm one of those sucker fans who come back no matter what.
Guest danielisthor Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I’ll be back and rooting my Marlins again, even though I hate the new owner. The owners should let the bastards strike and I don't care how long it takes, even a whole season +, but don't start up again until its completely settled. They need to have complete revenue sharing like in the NFL, forget about this whole luxury tax crap, install a minimum and maximum salary cap, institute a world wide draft, install a REAL steroid and drug testing system, not the BS crap the players came up with. And quit paying starting pitchers so much damn money. They play once every 5 days.
Guest redbaron51 Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 where's the "baseball just sucks" option
Guest TestKick Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I stopped watching in 1994... but then again, I've always found baseball boring as hell to watch.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 where's the "baseball just sucks" option ...if you don't like baseball than why respond to the topic? Personally, I'll go back eventually. I never go to any games and buy merchandise so I'm not making MLB any money. If a week long strike occurs my interest in the postseason outside of the Twins would be minimal. But if a significant deal is made, than next season I'll be watching.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I do spend money on baseball games and buy Braves stuff but I will not go back if they do what they did in 1994 again. I'll just watch more football
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 mi going to always keep going back to baseball, but when your a yankee fan its alot easier
Guest bob_barron Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Being a Braves fan made it easier to go back in 1995 but I'll give them up if they strike again.
Guest Some Guy Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Yeah I'll be back, but not as avid as I am now. Unless the Sox make a huge run this month, that is.
Guest alkeiper Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 I stopped buying baseball cards when they started charging $3 a pack and making every other card an "insert card." A strike won't generally change my habits, since I rarely manage to get to a major league game. Doesn't matter, since the AAA Red Barons are going to the playoffs regardless of a players strike, so I'll still have my baseball fix for a while.
Guest Strike Force! Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 As someone stated before, if something gets done, then I will return. But if it's the same old crap that it is now, I'm not sure.... I will say this is the least I've followed baseball in fourteen seasons.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 If they solve the competitive balance issue, I will return, no matter if it takes 10 years. If it is like 1994, then forget it. I hate to say it, but a strike/lockout is necessary to save MLB.
Guest alkeiper Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 What competitive balance issue? Seriously, what gives certain teams such a large advantage that only major change can help them? How come large markets teams like the Cubs, White Sox and Mets stink? How come small markets like St. Louis and Cleveland have some of the best attendances in the league? Why is a $40 million team like the A's considered just as good a team as the $130 million Yankees? How is a salary cap going to help? Honestly, I don't see where the problem is baseball is. Can anyone explain?
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted August 24, 2002 Report Posted August 24, 2002 I love baseball, so my viewing habits/attendance won't change. <tasteless joke> I'm like a battered spouse or something </tasteless joke>
Guest DragonflyKid Posted August 24, 2002 Report Posted August 24, 2002 alkeiper Posted on Aug 23 2002, 04:28 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What competitive balance issue? How is a salary cap going to help? Honestly, I don't see where the problem is baseball is. Can anyone explain? There is a problem in some teams not doing enough to be competitive. Teams like the Marlins and the Expos before them have had no chance of being successful because they never spend enough to keep their best players. Either get those owners to sell to someone who will invest more in their teams, move them to cities that would make them more financially viable or eliminate them. If one wants to complain about high salary teams they should complain about low salary teams too. I feel something must be done because disparity gets boring with the same teams reaching the playoffs while others finishing in the cellar. There should be more balance than there is, the NFL has a great system as does the NBA, MLB promotes jobber teams to go out every season and lose consistently. Mismanagement of some franchises is as much to blame as huge payrolls for teams like the Yanks. Also gauranteed contracts are bad just like they were in WCW. After one breakout season players get huge contracts no matter if they go on with continued success. The owners have been stupid in overspending and creating alot of their own problems.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 24, 2002 Report Posted August 24, 2002 I hate the idea of a strike... but I'd be lying if I voted NO. I love this game...and if people are playing it...I'm going to sit and watch.

Guest Will Scarlet Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 I probably will still continue to follow it. I cannot say I follow it too deeply now, but it usually fun to see the latest folly that the Detroit Tigers made. As long as the Tigers cling to last place, and keep making idiotic mistakes, I will be sure to follow it, and laugh. I guess I just love the bad teams.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 No... I wasn't a fan after the last strike, and it took Mac and Sammy to have a history homer chase to even get me MILDLY interested again. If they strike now I'll never watch again...I was barely watching as it is
