Who else bought the new box set? I picked it up yesterday and watched the first film and the fourth film footage...

 

What's up with Anchor Bay's transfer of the first film? Maybe I was spoiled by their THX remastered from the original film negative Halloween, but a lot of the blacks, particularly near the end of the movie, were getting a little "fuzzy". Unless it's supposed to be like that...

 

Also, I was pretty disappointed by the fourth film footage. I don't know what I was expecting, but what I got was raw footage (which I have no problem with, hell it's all my friends and I have ever been able to film ) of a film that featured no Angela, no killing/gore, and barely any camp setting! The trailer sucked too... I don't know if they made that up for this release or what, but it would've looked a lot better if they had taken the clips of the other films from the "remastered" versions instead of the 20 year old video outlet trailers

 

Anyone else's thoughts? I actually have some questions about the original film as well, but I'll wait for some more replies since they're spoiler questions.

If you do... get it at Best Buy... because they're the only providers of the 4th movie footage... as I had to find out the hard way, since there's no best Buy near me for like 45 minutes.

Worth Every penny IMO.

 

It was 25 bucks at Best Buy.

 

The first movie is genius IMO...and the commentary track on it is very fun too.

 

I haven't watched the other disks yet...and I feel I got my moneys worth already.

 

But I'm a sleepaway camp mark.

I got it the day it came out but it's still waiting for me to watch it. I also still need to look at the extras on the Pulp Fiction and Gremlins discs.

Really? How odd... even though I thought the footage from the fourth film was a waste of time, why would that be? Is it like when Best Buy used to get like a bonus CD with one or two extra songs on it to accompany major releases? I'd say buy it at Best Buy because it's cheap ($25 for 3 movies = bargain! ) more than anything else.

 

I'll probably watch the second and third films later tonight. I haven't seen the first film with commentary yet either.

I love all three of them, although my personal favourite is part 2. The box set is a GREAT deal, especially if you don't own part 1, cuz it's like getting all 3 of them for peanuts.

 

As for the quality of the "raw footage" for part 4, I'm not going to complain, because they could have not included it at all. How often do you get production footage of an unfinished film?

I love horror movies, but I can't find Sleepaway Camp to rent ANYWHERE. Is it good enough for me to just buy without even seeing it?

I've never seen them either, but i bought it just based on what the 3 or 4 fans on this board have said about it. I still haven't watched them yet so i can't personally say.

I'd recommend them simply because they're the rarity that is a series of enjoyable slasher flicks.

 

Hmmmm.... does anyone else get some weird kinda distortion on some scenes in Sleepaway Camp 2 and Sleepaway Camp 3? I did, and even though it only lasted for a few seconds it was kinda weird. However, I'm blaming my TV because it's old and does things like that sometimes. Other than that, I enjoyed those two films too, but I think the first is the best.

1) Why did Angela kill Paul at the end? I thought she liked him.

2) DID Ricky do some of the killing? I had figured that he and Angela "split up" the kills, especially near the end when the killer seemed to be in two places at the same time.

3) Did Ricky know Angela's secret?

4) What was up with that dream sequence of Angela's father being gay and her experimenting with her brother Peter? I didn't really get that. Is that just more contributing to her degrading mental condition?

5) Is Angela's aunt a transvestite as well? I swear she was trying to act like a man trying poorly to act like a woman...

6) Does Angela realize she's a transvestite? She seems to realize that she has a penis, hence the not showering, but other than that she acts completely like a girl. Did the boat collision and her aunt messing with her head cause that?

7) How did they do that shot for the ending? The only way I can think of is CGI, but they didn't have those kind of computer effects back then.

 

Whew! Seven questions is more than enough for now... anyone have any ideas?

I'll try and answer your question as best I can.

 

1. Because she is insane, and because wanting pre-marital sex is immoral, something she will kill for (more in the sequels).

 

2. No, Angela killed everyone.

 

3. I can't say for sure, but I don't think so. He was just protective because she was weak and shy.

 

4. Probably to show why she is so insane, and to show that she has experienced homosexuality in one form or another.

 

5. I think she was just supposed to be super crazy and maniacal, especially considering it was her idea to make Angela a "girl".

 

6. Angela probably considers herself a girl, with a "naughty secret" that no one else can know.

 

7. They hired a guy to stand naked with a molded Angela mask they made from the actual actress. The director says they had to get the actor drunk to do it.

Thanks again bps and C.H.U.D. A couple more Sleepaway Camp question and I'm done (for now) - in the second film, Angela mentions that she had an operation done to her and they let her go. Does this mean she's "fully" a girl in these two? Also, was she actually let go or did she escape?

 

Finally, I read online a rumor that there was a new Sleepaway Camp film being produced (not the one w/ the raw footage in the box set), with the same actress as the original Angela back in the lead role. Any truth to this? I'd be interested in seeing it, particularly if it kept a semi-serious tone like the first one.

I, like all you other Campers, went and got the boxed set this past Tuesday at Best Buy, but haven't had the honor of watching any of it yet. I've already got the original on both VHS and DVD, but I wasn't skipping out on this set.

1. Yeah, in the sequels she is a complete "girl" after getting a sex change operation. She didn't escape, she was actually released.

 

2. Yes, there is a 4th SC movie in the works titled Return to Sleepaway Camp, starring Felissa Rose, who played Angela in the original film, as well as other actors from the original.
