Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 22, 2002 The only sport where every game matters gets underway tonight. Colordado St. vs Virginia. You'd think ESPN would have the game on, but no the god awful WNBA is on instead.

Guest razazteca Report post Posted August 23, 2002 College football is the only league where you need to go undefeated to even get noticed for a chance at the holiday season championship bowl series. And even then the best team might get over looked because they did not run the score up. anyway go BIG 12 teams
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted August 23, 2002 ESPN2 was showing the WNBA. ESPN apparently decided showing the first college football game was not as important as the Little League World Series and the X Games. Stupid ESPN. Colorado State beat Virginia 35-29 in what seemed like a good game, with Virginia charging back after going into the half losing 19-7. Again, stupid ESPN. Guest Blackston Report post Posted August 23, 2002 Fox Sports actually had the rights to the game tonight, and they showed America why they are no competition for ESPN. Fox Sports Net opted to show the CSU-Virginia game to a rather small portion of the country (running it on Fox Sports South), instead running baseball games to the majority of the country. In Ohio, we got a Cleveland Indians game, which at this point is completely meaningless. The game itself went very well, with Va's Quarterback fumbling the ball on the CSU 1 yard line with no time left on the clock. CSU won by six. If this were ESPN we would be hearing the hype about how the game was an "Instant Classic", but on Fox Sports, the game has been relegated to a second class citizen. Oh well, tomorrow night, all will be forgiven. FYI, the College Gameday pre-season show starts at 7:00 tomorrow night on ESPN, and will be followed up with Fresno State-Wisconsin. Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted August 23, 2002 I dunno, as much of a football nut as I am, I just can't get into it while it's still August and/or hot outside. I think around late September is when I finally find my fan groove. I'll watch tomorrow night, but I won't be able to enjoy it as much as if it were in say, October. I checked Fox Sports West and Fox Sports West 2 (the Fox Sports affiliates out here) and didn't see it. Allow me to say - stupid Fox Sports AND stupid ESPN. Sorry ESPN, but showing Little League, the X Games, and the WNBA playoffs still qualifies you as stupid. About the game...you never would have known that Cecil Sapp was injured all of last year - he ran for 178 yards and two touchdowns, one a 72 yarder. And I saw highlights, it looked like a good game. Fresno State-Wisconsin is close to call...gotta believe Wisconsin is looking for revenge after they got punked in Camp Randall by Fresno State last season. Football takes a backseat with ESPN, my friend. That's why I watch them less and less.
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted August 24, 2002 #23 Wisconsin 23, Fresno State 21 Good game to kick off the season. Turnovers and penalties killed Fresno State - four turnovers, and over 10 penalties, one which overturned a missed field goal. Losing Bernard Berrian early in the first quarter also hurt, the other Fresno recievers weren't up to the challenge. Wisconsin kicked a field goal and then stopped Fresno State for the win. Anthony Davis had over 150 yards on the ground for the Badgers. Jeff Grady was up and down, throwing three TD passes but also two INT's and a fumble in replacing David Carr. Guest Blackston Report post Posted August 24, 2002 Wow, the season has really gotten off to a good start, hasn't it? Two evenly-played, back and forth matchups so far. Tomorrow we've got three more games which all feature inter-BCS conference matchups. Iowa State takes on Florida State, Ohio State takes on Texas Tech, and Nebraska takes on Arizona State. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 24, 2002 Pick a side and stay there Strikeforce...the other day you bitched that ESPN focuses on Baseball at this time of the year and seemingly ignores every other sport. Now you bitch that ESPN gives exposure to sports other then one of the major american sports(Football, baseball and basketball). So strikeforce can we expect you to bitch about the constant NFL and NCAA football coverage on ESPN in roughly two months? And The Virginia CSU game was on here in Ohio. Well unless the bar i was at had Directv and had the College Football package that allows you to see every game.
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted August 25, 2002 Ah, nothing like a long day of college football... The games: #12 Ohio State 45, Texas Tech 21 True freshman Maurice Clarett ran for 175 yards and three scores in the win. Already the comparisons to Archie Griffin have begun (he ran for three TD's in his first game as well). Thought this one would be closer, but once Ohio State got the running game going, the game was over. And Kilff Kingsbury was under fire all game long...I was very impressed with Ohio State. NC State 34, New Mexico 14 Expected win for NC State. Philip Rivers connected on three touchdown passes, and scored two himself to account for the Wolfpack's scores. #8 Nebraska 48, Arizona State 10 This one was close for a while, with ASU trailing at the half 10-3 and never really out of it until the final quarter. Lack of a good quarterback really killed ASU, as the defense was doing a good job keeping them in it until the fourth quarter began. Jammal Lord played all right, but after every good thing they did they cut to his mom in the stands, I thought it was 1998 all over again with Jamal Anderson and his mom. And a near shocker... #3 Florida State 38, Iowa State 31 Oh man...what a game - FSU was up 31-7 when ISU scored just before halftime to make it 31-14...then Seneca Wallace went off...he threw for over 300 yards and three scores. FSU was up 38-24 late in the fourth...then ISU scored to make it 38-31. They got the ball back and marched down field, getting to the FSU 1 with 4 seconds left. On the last play of the game, they ran the option to the left but Kendall Pope took the option away and then stopped Wallace as time ran out. Wow. Rix threw two touchdowns, but he was pressured all throughout the second half. And the defense didn't look all that great until the goalline stand. Still, Bowden and the Seminoles came out with the win. EDIT: double checked and changed scores for Nebraska-ASU and NC State-New Mexico games.
