This is actually a hard question for me, since I usually only by an album if I already know a bunch of the songs and like them (this of course, because I'm consistently broke but still feel guilty about downloading every song, so now I just download as samples).

Anyway, the only albums I've heard that have "gotten better" in the since that I couldn't stand them or only liked one or two tracks on them that I can think of recently were ...And You Shall Know us by The Trail of Dead's Source Tags & Codes and Elvis Costello's Spike.

Actually, Spike is a funny story because I was torn between buying that and Station to Station, which I'm already familiar with most of. I ended up choosing Spike because it was the cheaper disc and I liked "Veronica" (plus Rhino does SUCH a good job with all of their reissues... they're seriously gods when it comes to those things). For the first few listens, I'd just skip straight to "Veronica" and muttered to myself "I should've bought the Bowie, I should've bought the Bowie". So, I didn't listen to Spike for a while, then I brought it along on an impulse (couldn't find anything else) for an outing about two months ago, and fell in love with the disc. Now I've had "This Town" stuck in my head for days, can't bring myself to remove the CD from my disc changer, and I now consider "Satellite" one of my favorite songs. To think I originally regretted buying it... ha! Guess that's the perfect thread example.
