Guest GameCop Report post Posted August 24, 2002 Personally, I liked 2000 more because of the AWESOME Benoit-Jericho bout and the triple threat match- which featured evocative story-telling.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted August 24, 2002 2000. In 2000, we have TLC. A year later, The Great Edge Push begins, Christian has no match, Jeff is in a horrid ladder match, Matt has no match, and the Dudleyz are teaming with Test
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 24, 2002 2001 The first hour of 2000 sucks balls. 2001 has the fantastic Angle v. Austin match, great Edge v. Storm and Hardy v. RVD matches and the only bad match is Triad v. BOD. Everything else is good-great
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted August 24, 2002 2001. Better wrestling.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted August 24, 2002 You liked hardy/RVD? I remember a spotfest (a bad one at that) which was rather slow and had a fucked up ending. I just can't appreciate Storm/Edge, knowing what it started.
Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted August 24, 2002 2001 had the phenomenal Austin vs. Angle thread. I think Anglesault would agree that the Double A match (Austin/Angle) really brought prestige to the show.
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted August 24, 2002 I just can't appreciate Storm/Edge, knowing what it started. All it started was a Test feud, which led to a Regal feud, which led to a shampoo feud. It only "started" after Wrestlemania. And I liked both of them, but 2000 moreso. It actually started the Christian feud, which brought about the bed wetter comment and "You're not a threat" type promos, which DESTROYED Christian for about a year, and sent Edge on his way. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 24, 2002 I think Christian throwing tantrums kinda ruined his career. But Storm does carry Edge to a great match
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted August 24, 2002 Christian was well into lower midcard hell by the time the tantrums started. Summerslam 2001 is right around the time that Edge got it into his head that making every opponent he feuds with into an unworthy joke was a good idea, and thus, he hasn't had a watchable feud since. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 24, 2002 Since Regal won his feud with Edge- I'm kinda partial to that feud. Sault- you used Kurt as an example of how X-7 was better then X-8. Well: 2000: Get's a concussion and misses most of the match 2001: Wrestles the match of his life and bleeds like a madman. I get chills watching his performance there. Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted August 24, 2002 I think it started even before that. Christian should of turned on Edge @ InVasion or something. I think when they held off on his heel turn it hurt.
Guest midnight_burn Report post Posted August 24, 2002 I like both events, but i'll give 2001 the nod just barely, due to the greatness of Austin v Angle.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted August 24, 2002 Since Regal won his feud with Edge- I'm kinda partial to that feud. Oh my God, those matches. ::shudder:: If they just would have stopped at vengeance... After that, the silliness started, (Edge dismissing Regal as a non-threat-surprise, surprise, and doing bad British accents, Regal, the heel, coming back to avenge an injury, Kurt Angle somehow getting mixed up in this more than once and never looking good, UGH) and the matches weren't anywhere near good to cover up for it

Edge was facing Storm and this girl who OMG I LOVE YOU EDGE OMG was sitting behind me. So Edge beats Storm in 90 seconds and out pops REGAL!!! Regal beats the shit out of him as we go crazy and Edgehead starts crying- I was like: HOW DO YOU LIKE EDGE NOW?????? The next night when Edge no-sold Regal's greatest line ever our section chanted Edge has no balls. The greatest line ever- You gamble with the devil, the devil always wins

Jesus, that was PERFECT. Unfortunately, it wasn't FUNNY, so Edge had nowhere to go with it, and it was dropped.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 24, 2002 Here is the promo Regal cuts and Edge's response- "Bravo, young man, bravo. Another fine victory. Now I must also congratulate you, Edge, because you did your best to destroy my ruggedly handsome face, and a bloody good job you did of it as well - three separate surgeries I've had to endure - that's a lot of blood that I have lost. And I wonder if you've considered your actions wise - because the blood that flows from my veins is pure, English blood. And if you'd bothered to scholar yourself, you would know that the English were the most barbaric, sadistic, evil, wicked, spiteful (bugger)s that ever walked on this earth, and I am very proud to be one of them. As I've told you before, you gamble with the devil, the devil always wins, and unfortunately for you, sunshine, the devil has come to collect." Now that's like intense and awesome and totally gets Regal over. Edge: Well, thanks a lot, Bill Zebub, but what the hell are you talking about? If you want something, here's a novel idea: speak English! Thanks Edge- filthy little bugger Edit: I got the transcript from slash- thanks CRZ

That was an AWESOME promo from Regal that made him look like a total bad ass. It should have stopped there but nooo.......Edge (and of course the writrers) just had to completely no-sell the entire promo with a tragically unfunny British accent reply. That promo being ruined was reason enough to give Regal the belt and have him win the feud. Oh by the way, I prefer Summerslam 2001. I'm biased though as I'm a huge Angle fan and I was at the show. Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted August 24, 2002 SummerSlam 2000 had Benoit/Jericho, TLC, the main, Blackman/Shane, and nothing else. Of course, that's two ****1/2+ matches and two ***+ matches. SummerSlam 2001 had the IC, WWF, WCW title matches that were all ***1/2 or more (WWF was ****1/2 and IC was about ***3/4 or ****), and all other matches were good (with the obvious exception of UT/Kane v. Kanyon/DDP). My pick: 2001 by a hair, because Benoit/Jericho & TLC were just so good it made it close. But, still I'd go 2001. Jason
Guest SlowChemical6 Report post Posted August 24, 2002 It's really, really close. 2000 had TLC I (*****), Benoit vs. Jericho in a 2/3 falls classic (***** 3/4), Shane-O-Mac and Steve Blackman risking life and limb, and a main event that I feel is highly underrated (I give it **** 1/4). 2001 had two main events, one of which was a **** 3/4-***** classic (Austin vs. Angle) and one of which was a mediocre snooze-fest (Booker vs. Rock). I literally fell asleep during Booker vs. Rock, which has never happened to me during any wrestling match EVER. It also had great matches between RVD and Jeff Hardy and Edge and Lance Storm...both were in the ***+ range, if I remember correctly. Both shows had their low points, but 2000 had a lot more of them. 2000 had a hot but bland opener between Too Cool and the RTC, a stinkface thong match in which the two best performers involved (Snow and Saturn) stood on the outside of the ring, Road Dogg and X-Pac phoning it in, a throwaway "match" between Taker and Kane, and an absolute joke of an intergender tag team Intercontinental title match. 2001 only had one crap match, that being Taker and Kane squashing DDP and Kanyon in the cage. 2001 was better overall, 2000 had more "Holy shit!" moments. I'm kinda biased towards 2000 since I sat ringside for it.
Guest The Mountie Report post Posted August 24, 2002 2000 was one of the best PPVs of all time. 2001 was dire and just about put the WCW angle to bed. I'll go with 2000, thanks.
Guest DARRYLXWF Report post Posted August 24, 2002 2000. 1. Shane's bump 2. TLC 3. Jericho/Benoit 4. I liked the whole Angle/Triple H thing with Stephanie
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted August 24, 2002 2001, and sadly it doesn't get as much respect cause of WM-X7. I even at one point said that Summerslam 2001 was better than X-7, but then I rewatched both shows and X-7 gets the slight nod, but not by much.

With the awful first hour how can 2000 be one of the best PPVs of all time. With the exception of the cage match I think Summerslam actually helped the Invasion. The road to Unforgiven hurt it more. Even in matches where the Alliance lost they were put over (ie Booker T) and made to look good. (ie Booker)
