Guest BigPoppaKev Report post Posted August 24, 2002 Watching the Little League series is great for me. Watching these kids have the time of their lives is just great. I know there has been some controversy of the taunting and 'hotdogging' going on by some teams but they are just kids let it go. This is what baseball should be like. These kids hussle every play, they don't argue with officials, and they play the game because they want to. I live about 15 miles from Worcester,MA who are in the US championship makes it even that much better. What do you guys think?

You see that and say they're just kids, and to let it go. I see that and see a bunch of kids aping the most sophomoric and ridiculous actions of the major-leaguers they idolize. Seeing a twelve-year old puff his chest out at the other team while shouting. "That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!" over and over again is the height of absurdity. It's a lesson that no one is ever too young to ham it up for a camera.

Guest Some Guy Report post Posted August 24, 2002 I wasn't a big fan of the Harlem team's show boating but I really like watching the games. I was switching back and forth between Worchester/Harlem and the Sox game. I marked like a little kid when the catcher hit the HR to win the game and was even happier when he showed far more maturity than the Harlem kids by not rubbing it in and mouthing off to the pitcher, "that's what the fuck I'm talking about." Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 24, 2002 Do I agree with Mini Sammy's Actions? Nope...But it's all right in the circmastances...They are playing Big Time ball for free...allow them to Express themselfs...It's when the Pros do this, it's sicking. However, Little Leauge Baseball is great because we all remember playing Little Leauge...My Team came close going to the event.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted August 24, 2002 The difference betweem Barry Bonds or whoever showboating is that the pitcher is a grown man who can more easily accept failure. These are 12 year old kids. Do you think the Harlem pitcher who gave up the game winner has slept well since it happened? I don't. If Randy Johnson gives one up he gets over it, because it happens. Further more how would "mini Sammy" like it if the Worcester kid did that shit to them when they got beat?
Guest BigPoppaKev Report post Posted August 24, 2002 Them showboating may be a little much but kids emulate sports players all the time but maybe not to that extreme. For instance when I was in Little League in like 96 it was Nomar's first year and I started doing the wrist thing and the feet tap just because I wanted to be like Nomar. I know that isn't mocking the other team but it is still emulating other things. Also living in Harlem is a totally different environment than a suburban team. They grew up different and that could be a part of it. I still think it was over blown.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted August 24, 2002 The kids I'm ok with but some of these coaches/parents are discusting. Why the hell do you have a 12 year old kid throw 130 pitches?
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted August 25, 2002 "Why the hell do you have a 12 year old kid throw 130 pitches?" Might as well get the most use out of him before he goes on to high school...
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted August 25, 2002 I wondered the same thing about the pitch counts. If grown men have trouble throwing that many it can't be too heathy for the kids. They have so many rules to protect the kid's heath I;m suprised the pitch count hasn't been addressed. Some 12 year old is going to need surgery for pitching in Little League for free with no benifits.
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Man, I thought Japan was going to take it based on their previous games. Aaron Elvy = BEAST. As much as I hate State College, I was actually rooting for their team last year before they got fucked over by Danny Almonte.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 26, 2002 What an asshole that one coach was for Kentucky. The Japanese team didn't have some coach run out there a yell some stupid military cliches at a 12 year old kid. The coaches made rooting for the U.S. team almost impossible. Guest Redhawk Report post Posted August 26, 2002 1) Throwing a lot of pitches isn't as big of a deal for Aaron Alvey as it would be for, say, Freddy Garcia. Why? Garcia needs to pitch again in a week, and again the week after that. Alvey isn't going to pitch for the rest of the year. 2) Why does everyone get on the kids' back for "showboating," but says nothing about major leaguers? All they're doing is showing some emotion and copying what they see on TV? What's so bad about that? 3) The first base umpire made some bad calls in the Championship game. But then I guess we couldn't have the USA losing so close to 9/11. And it's funny how the Japanese kids didn't argue at all, because they're taught to respect their elders (Notice how they took off their hats when their coaches would talk to them?). If they'd made a bad call on a US team, we'd have been arguing, just like the pros.
