5* Matches in WWF/E History

Recommended Posts

Guest Dames Edna

Many of youare basing your ***** pics on SK's rants, so just to help you out, he has said that the TLC matches, in retrospect, were not indeed ***** matches. So now many of you can go edit your posts to change it

WWF

Bret/Owen WMX

Bret/Austin Survivor Series

Austin/Rock WM17

WCW

Guerrero/Mysterio HH97

Guerrero/Jericho Fall Brawl 97

Benoit&Malenko/Saturn&Raven SS00

ECW

Guerrero/Malenko HCS 95

Those, out of the matches I have seen, are what I feel ***** matches are. Many won't agree, but your own personal factors come into play when YOU feel what a ***** feels like.

Honorable Mentions

TripleH/Cactus RR00 ****3/4

Canadian Stampede 10 Man ****3/4

Guerrero/Malenko Uncensored 97 ****3/4

Michaels/Undertaker BB97 ****3/4

Michaels/Mankind MG 96 ****3/4

Austin/Triple H NWO01 ****3/4

Michaels/Austin WM14 ****1/2

Michaels/Hart SS97 ****1/2

- That match is based on pure emotion. It did have great pyschology, and it made every fan feel something special. In retrospect, the match's personal value for is heightened because of the real thing. I saw the match on PPV and what was completely dumbfounded, and intrigued by the whole thing. Since I didn't have the internet to blur my point of view on the match, I thought the whole experience was something special. When many give this match a ***, I can see why, but my original gut feeling told me this was awesome - maybe the pinnacle of my wrestling watching life. Unreal heat, unreal backstory, unreal finish - just awesome.

What if one ***** match is better than another? Is that like a *****1/2 match? ***** is the absolute best match you have ever seen statistically speaking.

Owen Hart vs Bulldog, European Title Tourney Final

I can not believe that someone actually mentioned this match. It is hands down one of my personal favorite matches of all time, yet so few actually talk about the match. I wouldn't call it perfect, but it is one of MY favorites, on MY scale. :D :D :D

It did say WWF/E in the thread title you know... :(

I disagree with WM3 being ***** or whatever. Maybe it's because I think wrestling has progressed, but I want something more exciting than Axe Handle Smashes. That match was B-O-R-I-N-G IMO.

not necessarily, it just depends how you use the system. i've seen scores of four-star movies, but some four-star movies are better than others.

Hi-

I can rate matches w/o SK's help thank you.

I've seen the TLC matches many times and I still say *****

This post just goes to show how the American public has changed. Anything where someone doesn't fall 20 feet off a cage or a ladder and through a table or take 214 chair shots doesn't qualify as entertaining. If anything, wrestling itself has regressed.

Savage/Steamboat still gets five stars.

The rest of mine:

Royal Rumble 1992

Hart/Hart (WM X)

Michaels/Ramon (WM X - just watched it, and it's still great)

Hart/Austin (WM XIII)

Austin/Dude Love (OTE 98)

Austin & HHH/Benoit & Jericho (RAW 2001)

On the topic of standards:

Simply put, I think Hart/Hart is much better than Hart/Bulldog, or Michaels/Taker, that I don't see how I could give both of them the same rating. By rating matches like that at the same levle as Hart/Hart, I would be demeaning the idea of ***** to begin with.

Second, I think this is supposed to be best WWF matches, for those who seem to have veered off that. Still, bar none, I think Guererro/Mysterio is the best match in NA wrestling history, and Hart/Hart is the best in WWF history. Beyond that, it gets a little grainey, but that's pretty much the bottom line of my opinion.

Ok, could someone explain to me why the Benoit/Malenko vs Raven/Saturn is so great. I mean, it's a thoroughly enjoyable match. It's a very good tag team match, but I've seen better stuff specifically the Hog WIld Benoit vs Malenko.

The only one I have at 5* is Hart/Austin Wrestlemania 13. There have been plenty of matches close but not the cigar. That match had it all.
