Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted August 25, 2002 I have bought most of my favorite movies for VHS, and it cost me quite a bit of money. Now, I got a DVD player as a gift. So, should I buy all my favs. over again for DVD(Which would cost a lot), or should I pray that they come out with a way to transfer VHS to DVD?
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 25, 2002 There are DVD-Recorders out now, but they cost a TON of money, however I can guarantee you that in a few years the price will go down so that video labs can make an affordable process out of it (kinda like changing a PAL tape to an NTSC tape). As for right now, maybe pick up your all-time favorites on DVD if they have special features that you want. If not, VHS is still perfectly fine until the tapes wear down. Even though I don't buy VHS' anymore, I still rent on VHS all the time, particularly older films, and unless you have a top-of-the-line TV/audio system, there's no HUGE difference in quality. Guest Grenouille Report post Posted August 25, 2002 My advice would be to buy the one's that have been given big time specials with lots of extras and the ones that are still bare bone discs, keep your VHS.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted August 25, 2002 If there is a superior Special Edition of the movie you own on VHS which is on DVD, sell off the VHS and buy the DVD. If the DVD isn't really a step above the VHS, don't buy the DVD and keep the VHS. If a DVD version does not exist, keep the VHS.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted August 25, 2002 I have a lot of wrestling tapes, and I won't be getting the DVDs of those for a few extras. The tapes I'm thinking about selling and getting a DVD version of are: Escape from New York Die Hard 1-3 Halloween Nightmare on Elm Street 13th Warrior Braveheart Alien Aliens South Park Rocky Payback Predator Evil Dead 1-3 I only have about $100 right now, so I'm not sure what ones I should get. Anyways, I just bought all of the ECW DVDs and the nWo DVD a few weeks ago, so I'm happy.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted August 25, 2002 Some people at Google Groups Video Marketplace might want those videos. And on an unrelated note, when it comes to wrestling on video to me, it doesn't matter if its DVD, VHS or Beta, it's all keepers.

Out of that list, the only ones that have really super-extra-special DVDs (someone correct me if I'm wrong) are Die Hard, Halloween, Braveheart, Rocky, and the Evil Dead trilogy. By super-extra-special, I mean top-of-the-line video/audio and loaded with extras. I'm not really sure about Alien, Aliens, and Predator. I do know Escape from New York is bare-bones, so you can hold off on that one if you can't find it cheap (which you might be able to, MGM has a lot of their older, barebones titles for pretty cheap these days). Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 25, 2002 Escape from New York Die Hard 1-3 Halloween Nightmare on Elm Street 13th Warrior Braveheart Alien Aliens South Park Rocky Payback Predator Evil Dead 1-3 Die Hard 1-3 all have loaded double disc versions Halloween has a decent DVD currently but you should try finding the loaded double disc version that is long out of print. Braveheart It isn't packed full of extras, but it does have good ones. It has great video and sound Alien & Aliensboth have pretty good DVDs with some good extras and deleted scenes. Rocky Isn't a bad DVD and it likely won't be rereleased as a upgraded DVD anytime soon. The 25th anniversery was last yhear so if they were going to release an improved DVD it would have been then Evil Dead 1-3 all have loaded DVDs. However you must be careful when buying them because they have older bare bone versions too.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted August 25, 2002 I'll probablg be getting Rocky, Braveheart, Alien, Aliens, the Die Hard movies, and the Evil dead movies for DVD once I get enough money.
