Guest DEEP THOUGHT Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 While it is not unheard of when a heel gets face heat, what are some examples of huge heel heat for a supposed babyface? Two that immediately come to mind for me are.. Shawn Michaels at the 1996 Survivor Series - The MSG crowd booed his every move, even though the match was build up with him being the babyface and Sid being the heel. Tugboat at the 1990 Survivor Series - One of the loudest heel pops I've ever heard was when Tugboat got the hot tag from Hogan and made his first appearance in the match. Seriously the booing was about 10 times longer that during the "hatching" of the Gobbley Gooker later that night.
Guest nWoScorpion Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 Fabulous Moolah in 1987Survivor Series: Although she was the Face captain, she got the loudest heel heat. Bret Hart vs. Undertaker at RR96 Bret got booed badly for going after UT;s leg foir the whole match. Ditto for Bret vs. Diesel at SSeries 1996
Guest Your God Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 Rocky Maivia, WRESTLEMANIA 13 While probably not the biggest example of the "Rocky sucks" chants, a good place to start. I mean, how much does it hurt to be 20-something, defending the IC Title on the biggest show of the year and hear from the fans that you suck? Bret Hart vs. Bulldog Yeah, Bulldog was the hometown hero and face by default, but, as I recall, Bret was getting monster heel heat. (I might be overexaggerating, but he wasn't exactly being cheered loudly). I also loved how he played the crowd and kept pretending to walk out like a complete dick, refusing to shake Bulldog's hand after the match.
Guest Tony149 Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 The Rock vs. SCSA - WM X-7. It was Austin's home-state, but I found it hilarious.
Guest Drury37 Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 Yeah at WWF SummerSlam 1992 people were cheering for Bret Hart and weren't cheering for the British Bulldog even though the Bulldog was built as the face.Another one like that was at WWF WrestleMania IX during the Razor Ramon Vs. Bob Backlund match the crowd was chanting Razor,Razor,Razor during that match even though Bob Backlund was a face and the Razor Ramon was a heel at that time. Thanks.
Guest Your God Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 Really? I thought it was the other way around for SUMMERSLAM 92, but, as I said in the KOTR 93 thread, my memory's bad.
Guest Drury37 Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 At WWF SummerSlam 1992 Bulldog was built as the face and Bret Hart with built as the face who they wanted to turn into a heel. Thanks.
Guest Army Eye Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 Master P during his short stint in WCW.
Guest J*ingus Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 When Sid eliminated Hogan, who then pulled Sid out, at RR 92. HUGE boos for the Hulkster, and a big "SID! SID! SID!" chant. Funniest part: the WWF, "the organization that LISTENS to its fans", edited the home video version into a big "HO-GAN!" chant instead, although they did a piss-poor job and you can tell the soundtrack's been fucked with.
Guest Loss4Words Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 Very few people remember this, but the WWF actually pushed the Honky Tonk Man as a babyface briefly in 1986. The crowds HATED him, leaving no choice but for Vince to turn him heel. Of course, it worked out in the end since HTM was one of the biggest midcard heels the WWF ever had.
Guest Denny Burkholder Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 You beat me to it... The Honky Tonk Man might be the biggest example ever of a WWF guy that debuted as a babyface and was literally forced to turn heel because crowds hated him so much. Denny
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted February 25, 2002 Report Posted February 25, 2002 Stone cold at canadian stampede i thought the fans were going to KILL him when he hit one of bret's brothers (bruce?) it was amazing my fav match too just for the emotions in it
Guest goodhelmet Posted February 25, 2002 Report Posted February 25, 2002 Damn, Loss4Words stole my thunder. Honky even tried a fake poll if the fans should cheer him or not. He kind of sounded pathetic telling fans not to let him down. Yeah, and who can forget the Rocky Sucks chants to the Blue Chipper. I honestly felt bad for the guy for like two seconds.
Guest reverse knife edge Posted February 25, 2002 Report Posted February 25, 2002 I don't know if it would exactly qualify as "heel" heat - it was more like "you suck ass" heat - but the squeaky clean Dynamic Dudes (Shane Dougles and Johnny Ace) got booed out of the building on Halloween Havoc '89. They were facing the "heel" Freebirds but everytime Hayes and Garvin went on offense the place erupted and everytime the skateboard riding duo took over a chorus of boos erupted. When the Freebirds finally went over it was like Christmas came early.
Guest goodhelmet Posted February 25, 2002 Report Posted February 25, 2002 Yep, that's what it's about. Same thing happened when they faced the Midnight Express in Philly. The Dudes were probably the most hated faces ever
Guest Risk Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 X-Pac during the crappy InVasion angle. I win this contest, he HAD the biggest "face" heat.
Guest TheEnforcer Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 When Sid eliminated Hogan, who then pulled Sid out, at RR 92. HUGE boos for the Hulkster, and a big "SID! SID! SID!" chant. Oh yes.. what a moment. First, there was Flair, being the god that he is, making everybody in the WWF look like an ass for 60 minutes and then it was FINALLY seeing the fans get their first glimpse of what a two-faced piece of shit Hulk Hogan really is.
Guest teke184 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 Risk's right about X-Pac. He, along with Justin Idiot and Albert, were the only WWF wrestlers who were incapable of getting a face pop during the Invasion. I know the crowd hates X-Pac, but I think the other two were hated because of that AWFUL Uncle Kracker theme they had.
Guest The Mountie Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 What about Erik Watts? At SuperBrawl II (or III) he and Bagwell face The Hollywood Blondes and whenever ol’ Erik is tagged in the ‘pretty boy babyface’ is BOOOOOOOOOED out of the building. Poor kid, he wasn’t a bad wrestler, just a victim of the Rocky Maivia-style pushing system.
Guest dreamer420 Posted February 27, 2002 Report Posted February 27, 2002 I like how X-Pac doesn't have to use a lot of heel tactics but can still get his ass booed out of any building in the USA.
Guest Ace309 Posted March 3, 2002 Report Posted March 3, 2002 Tugboat wasn't getting booed... the fans were biting on his "TOOOOOOOOOT" gimmick.
Guest DEEP THOUGHT Posted March 3, 2002 Report Posted March 3, 2002 The sound that the crowd was making at the 1990 Survivor Series for Tugboat when he got the hot tag from Hogan had to be boos. The gimmick was so lousy & there was no way he was over enough for the crowd to be saying his silly catch phrase.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted March 3, 2002 Report Posted March 3, 2002 "Shawn Michaels at the 1996 Survivor Series - The MSG crowd booed his every move, even though the match was build up with him being the babyface and Sid being the heel." I'm glad someone remembered this.
Guest areacode212 Posted March 3, 2002 Report Posted March 3, 2002 When Sid eliminated Hogan, who then pulled Sid out, at RR 92. HUGE boos for the Hulkster, and a big "SID! SID! SID!" chant. I hear this story a lot. But back in '94, I rented (and copied) the 1992 Royal Rumble Coliseum Video...and the boos are intact. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I rented it in Canada. Are there two different versions of the home release? At any rate, I did get to see the "edited" version with new fan noise and redone commentary. I believe it was on the home version of that year's WrestleMania, or some other tape that recapped the Sid-Hogan feud. But the RR '92 tape I saw had the original PPV footage.
Guest HBK WILL ROT IN HELL Posted March 3, 2002 Report Posted March 3, 2002 This is exactly the opposite face heat for a giant heel even though it was Austins home town I thought it was a hilarious when Austin won the title and the crowd cheering as loudly as they had all night even though Vince was right next to him.
