Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted August 26, 2002 I really wish HBK would have worn his wrestling tights. He has the coolest tights of anyone.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 26, 2002 I suppose from reading the thread, it wasnt as bad as I thought, but Im still glad I wasn't duped into buying it. Anyone who says its the best PPV ever is just trying to put up a justification for why they bought it when everyone else said it was gonna suck. Dude- This was well worth $
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Anyone who says its the best PPV ever is just trying to put up a justification for why they bought it when everyone else said it was gonna suck. Nope. I had a feeling it wasn't gunna be that great...but HBK proved me wrong, the show was ALL wrestling and no other bullshit. I honestly feel it was the Greatest PPV I've ever witnessed...I'll have to watch it again, though.

Guest CanadianHorseman Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Let me weigh in: Easily the best Summerslam ever. Easily. And I'll go on record as saying that yes BretHart, this was one of the best PPVs of all time. I've seen NWA:TNA and I'd like my money back NOW please. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted August 26, 2002 I need to vomit. I said that if HBK/HHH reached ***1/2 I would post nothing but pro-test for a day.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Just curious (and I am not bashing people for being fanboys I am a Jericho fanboy) how many people giving this high ratings are/were HBK or HHH marks? I never really marked for either so I couldn't care less about the history and that would probably add something to it. I would rate it *1/2-** for being a decent but way too long hardcore match. Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Well, it depends on who you listen to. I mean Meltzer (supposedly) gave Brock Vs RVD from Vengeance ***1/2, so star ratings are getting a bit silly these days. I dunno, i would have to watch it again, but I reckon its around **-***
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted August 26, 2002 I honestly feel that HBK/HHH shouldn't get rated. It was just really damn good and it's amazing Shawn came back like he did. EVERYONE said he would suck and he proved a lot of people wrong...and myself.

Guest RicFlairGlory Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Well yes I am an HBK mark, but seriously I was very very reluctant to give this match hope. I honestly thought that HBK did about 15 times more than I ever imagined him doing. I'll still say its 4 stars, I mean, the finish/pin combination was fucking wild. Guest CanadianHorseman Report post Posted August 26, 2002 I'd give it at least **** and never look back. The back work by HHH was wonderful and the highspots by HBK made my night (and the crowd's as well).
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted August 26, 2002 From WrestlingObserver.com: HHH vs. Michaels is next. They went 27:00 and totally stole the show. Michaels pinned him with a cradle after blocking the pedigree. Michaels pulled out everything including an elbow drop off a ladder and a plancha through a table. HHH attacked him after with a sledge hammer to the back twice. The greatest thing they ever did was put two announcing teams out there because all the comparisons lit a fire on both teams. Double juice. Michaels out on a stretcher. Might be some pro-Test posts from Mr.Sault
Guest NazMistry Report post Posted August 26, 2002 I honestly feel that HBK/HHH should get rated. It was just really damn good and it's amazing Shawn came back like he did. EVERYONE said he would suck and he proved a lot of people wrong...and myself. Yeah, the spots were cool, and Michaels was better than anyone expected, but Triple H was a complete pile of horseshit in that match. I'd give it **3/4. Thats all HBK. I'm not a usual Anti-Triple H advocate, but he was a pile of crap today.
Guest Mr. Slim Citrus Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Well pinjockey, I hate Shawn Michaels (used to be a huge Bret Hart mark, before he lost his mind), and I don't like Triple H very much either (but this probably has more to do with me being one of the only two Chyna marks on this entire board). Having said that, I was entertained by the match. I'd give it 3.5, if my opinion is worth a can of Spam around here...
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted August 26, 2002 I honestly hate HBK....but what he did tonight was just unreal. I NEVER would think I see him come back and do the stuff he did.
Guest mickberna Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Almost everyone except for bps who actually watched the show, including myself, has agreed on two important points... that the show was overall very entertaining, and that HBK/HHH was very good. I'll agree that it was the best Summerslam ever. Not best PPV ever, but it was still really really really good. Just think back to the shit we watched in 98 and 99... and appreciate how much talent we saw in one night tonight.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Might be some pro-Test posts from Mr.Sault ::AS walks out with Clarence Mason:: Mason: My client stated that he would post pro-Test if HBK/HHH was ***1/2. However, he didn't find it to be ***1/2, so he is off the hook!
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Great effort by Shawn, but the old HBK didn't need to use every shortcut in the book to make an interesting match. After the initial mark-out value wares off, and you re-watch the match, its not THAT good.

Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Watching a match twice in like an hour isn't too smart. I'll buy the DVD and probably still mark out

Guest mickberna Report post Posted August 26, 2002 After the initial mark-out value wares off, and you re-watch the match, its not THAT good. Markout value... umm, isn't that what professional wrestling is all about? I'm certain it's not to cater to the few cynical fans who overanalyze their work. Guest Shanghai Kid 2002 Report post Posted August 26, 2002 Last week people were saying that HBK would suck and that he maybe couldn't even take a basic bump. Yet HBK bumped harder than anybody in the night, and in my opinion, CARRIED HHH to a ***1/2 match. The crowd was into it, it was a great brawl, and the ending was much better than say a straight superkick would of been. Face it, when this ppv ended, the majority of people who watched it were left thinking about HHH/HBK, not any other match. And a 36 year old guy whose been made fun of and called a Cripple by everybody just stole the show...again. the best WWE ppv since X-

My point is people are saying this is a 4*+ match. There is alot of excitement with it being HBK first match back, and he did a load of highspots, but in actually its not a great match. Don't get me wrong, I found it very enjoyable, and Shawn put in some awesome effort. He will be feeling it tommorow.
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted August 26, 2002 My first PPV, and damn I'm glad I picked this one. Angle vs Rey - Booked perfectly. Angle dominated, Rey put up short but hard-hitting offensive spurts. Only thing missing was Angle giving Rey one of those "Wow" looks. SWANK~! Angle Slam counter. Jericho vs Flair - Botched spots abound, and the chops were about 75% of Flair's offense. And the wrong man won. Not a terrible match, but not very good. Edge vs Eddie - Smackdown or Raw hour one Main Event quality. Ok, but nothing too special. Bookdust vs UnAmericans - See above. Nothing you wouldn't find on a free-TV show, good but not great. Test vs Taker - About what I expected until the end, where it greatly picked up. Rob Van Dam vs Chris Benoit - Not quite the ***** classic I was hoping for, but a damn good match nonetheless. Triple H vs Shawn Michaels - Well, I was expecting *-** at best, and I got so much more out of it. The beginning dragged, but after the first eight minutes of dicking around it really picked up... I thought Hebner's protesting was a nice touch... The Rock vs Brock Lesnar - Did I miss something? Is Brock's family ten thousand strong or something? That crowd was right down the middle, trading "Let's go Lesnar!" chants with "Rocky! Rocky!" chants (with a few "Rocky sucks!" in between). That was... weird. The match itself was sort of a two man clusterfuck of a mess, but it was fun nonetheless. Overall - There was some odd booking (Jericho did NOT need to lose against Flair), but just shove it off to the side and enjoy the matches. The very worst were of decent Free-TV match quality, and the others were all *** to **** matches. Randumb Notes -----> If this was a FIGHT, why the hell did Michael try rollups in the beginning? -----> Seriously, what was up with the bad guy reaction for Rock? -----> Sign of the night: SMACKDOWN SUCKS, WATCH RAW! -----> Looks like Raw will soon lose another reason for me to watch it... grumble grumble... Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted August 26, 2002 (Also posted in the OAOSST...) I would've enjoyed the match more had they not make it seem like HBK's back was FUBARed so early, and then all of a sudden it's I HAVE THE POWER and they go another 15 minutes. That took a lot out of it for me.
Guest Extreme Forever Report post Posted August 26, 2002 The Thing I found stupid was the "Non- WWE-Sanctioned Match" If it wasnt sanctioned why would they Promote it and have it in the wrestling ring witha ref?
