Did Summerslam Make You Feel Like a Kid Again?

Recommended Posts

Guest KANE

Maybe it was just me, but I thought that PPV was the best foot WWE has put forward in a while. With the exception of anything involving the Un-Americans, that was a really, REALLY good show.

And I ate up all the hype for the main event like a little kid mark. Seriously, I LOVED feeling like that.

I haven't been excited for a match since the late 90s golden era.

What I'm trying to say is: for a while I was wondering why I ever liked wrestling to begin with. I think I got a taste of that feeling again. Let's look at the formula to figure out why...epic buildups, good wrestling, a sense of importance and tension during the pivital moments of the matches...but there's one really glaring thing that marks the difference between why this show was so great and why Raws and Smackdowns are unwatchable...

NO DUMB BACKSTAGE SKETCHES!

Sure, there were a couple, and what was there (Bisch/Steph, Fink/Lilian, Un-American interview) was awful, but it felt like good matches, and the absence of soap-opera dumb segments made this a standout show.

Of course, most of you guys are probably saying "DUH! That's the obvious winning formula," but I think tonight was done so well in the ring, with just a taste of the bad drama outside the ring, that it's become more abundently clear than ever what the problem is.

I'm not sure where I'm going/trying to go with the topic, but I just felt like I had to come here and reaffirm my faith in wrestling for one night, even if they return to the same garbage tomorrow and I turn to Monday Night Football instead, just like last week.

For the Trips/Shawn match, I was marking like a little girl, panicking every time Shawn's back was punished in any way. And when he kipped up, forget about it. I was in markout land, and not coming back.

Felt really good.

I'm not that familiar with Shawn, although I know the guy and his friends are pretty big asses. I still was shouting "OH!!" everytime he was taking back blows, except for that chairshot to the ass which was kind of obvious.

I say X8 made me mark out like the kid, but this was close. I'd say the Rock verbally jobbing to the audience has excited me more than anything else on the show.

When Lesnar won the WWE Undisputed Title I was marking out like a kid. Same when HBK beat HHH. The last I felt like this was Wrestlemania 17.

I started to get the chills during the closing moments of Brock/Rock, it's like you say, the importance and tension in those moments that mean everything. I really didn't know who would win at that point. I hadn't felt that way in a while, and then it was suddenly all over via F5. I wanted more. I wanted the SSP. That would have had me marking out.

I really only liked the Rey/Angle and Shawn/Triple H match at Summerslam. Even though I'm tired of the Rock I didn't want Brock to win the title. He's too green and not a big enough draw.

Overall Summerslam was one of the best WWE PPV's of the year but this year has been pretty weak so it's not really a big deal.
