SummerSlam was great but...

Just watched Summerslam for the 2nd time - it still holds up as a great show on 2nd viewing.

I'd have made three changes to make it even better though.

1: Have Jericho beat Flair, or at least put up more of a fight to the figure four. His legs hadn't been worked on all match, so Jericho tapping so quickly made no sense.

2: Drop the Nidia segment and a couple of commercials, and give two more minutes to both Eddy/Edge and Benoit/RVD. Both those finishes came totally out of nowhere.

3: Change the finish to the tag title match completely. The Long Island fans were ready to blow to roof off for Booker/Goldust winning, but Test giving the UnAmercians the win by interference meant the fans were PISSED. Big time. That had an adverse effect on the crowd reaction for RVD/Benoit, IMO. With September 11 so close, AND being ina New York crowd, there's no way the UnAmericans should have retained, short reign or not.

Still, the show was excellent. I am just dissapointed that three good matches couldn't have been GREAT, if just given a little more time at the end, rather than having finishes come out of nowhere. IE the tag match, and Benoit/RVD and Eddy/Edge.

Angle/Rey could have stood to gain more time too. Its astonishing that the flaws with this PPV were only that there was too much quality on one show, meaning the early bouts were rushed somewhat.

The finishs were terrible. That's what bad omen out of last night. They totally booked the IC, Tag, Jericho/Flair matches wrong and the ending to Edge/Eddy was just terrible.

Other than that, 2 Thumbs way the fuck up.

Benoit should have won, period. He needed the win, and hasn't gotten a win since 3 weeks ago. RVD is still over enough to not have to win the IC title.

Eddy needed to win, too. Hasn't won in forever. Same with Jericho.

IC finish sucked, tag title finish wasn't good, either.

Yes, all of the finishs were terrible. And they could have made the matches just a little longer yo.

I would have given 10 more minutes to Angle and Mysterio. I felt like I watched the first half of a ***** match. I was REALLY into that match and I wanted more. They went off the air at the 2:45 mark, so they could have given that match more time.

The Guerrero/Edge match needed like three more minutes as well. I thought when Edge speared Eddie, he wasn't going to be able to make the cover. That's because Edge speared him with the LEFT shoulder. That's the shoulder Eddie was working over for the ENTIRE match. I'd rather have no psychology then the psychology of the match go right out the window during the finish.

Definately the booking. Eddie over Edge, Benoit over RVD, Jericho over Flair (though they did a good job establishing the figure four again).

1. change the finish of edge/eddie: edge hits the spear but can't capitalize because of his shoulder. eddie tries to capitalize & hits the frog splash, but his ribs are too hurt from the spear to capitalize. edge goes for a small package, eddie reverses & grabs the tights and the ropes for the win.

2. change the makeup of rvd/benoit completely, so that you don't have 2 'arm psychology' matches in a row: benoit works rvd over with chops & mad suplexes, rob stays alive with his kicks. rob goes for the 5-star; benoit goes up & acts like he's going for a superplex but low blows him (out of the ref's view), then tombstones him from the 2nd rope for the win.

3. have booker t & goldust go over. after the big boot goldust low blows test & hits the curtain call on christian, allowing booker to pin him with his last ounce of strength.

4. FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, LET ROCK RETAIN! HOTSHOT THE TITLE OFF HIM THE NEXT NIGHT, HAVE HIM RELINQUISH IT, HAVE HIM RUN AWAY TO HOLLYWOOD WITH THE BELT TO TURN HIM HEEL, ANYTHING! JUST DON'T LET BROCK LESNAR BE THE CHAMPION!

I would have:

1) Put the tag team titles on Booker T and Goldust

2) Banned working the arm in Benoit vs. RVD and Edge vs. Guerrero. Benoit and Guerrero jobbed, so it was pointless. Benoit should have stuck to suplexing the shit out of RVD, and Guerrero should have gone all lucha libre with Edge. All of that boring arm work didn't even play into the finish. Plus, most fans aren't into that. It's only the puro freaks.

Otherwise...you can't improve on the greatest SummerSlam of all time and probably the second-best pay-per-view of all time (Right behind WrestleMania X-7, Great American Bash '89 is overrated).

Guest Smell the ratings!!!

I would have:

1) not followed it up with the WORST FUCKING RAW since...well, last week.

2) as everyone else has said, not a good ending in sight. Also, change submission finishers to "something to be built up to" instead of "something to be done over and over and over untill it works"

overall, i thought it was a very good show, particularly because I got the hell out of there after the IC title match. However, Raw was so god-awful hideous it may have been negated completely.

And yes, Rey vs. Angle was MOTN in my opinion.
