Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted August 27, 2002 There is a whole shitload of releases this week (and next). Fortunately, most of the stuff is pretty cheap. The Attic & Crawlspace The first of MGM's new "double disc" series. Man, what a great deal this is. Two films, both in widescreen + theatrical trailers for $15. This is why I love MGM. I love the movies as well. The Believers Decent voodoo, occult movie with the memorable "spiders crawling out of your face" scene. Another MGM cheapie. Cat People: Special Edition I really like this freakfest, and the original disc is pretty mediocre at best, so I'll look forward to picking up this SE. Deathstalker IV Yes! Now all I need is part III and I'll have 'em all. I have no idea why they haven't released it yet. For fans ONLY! Deranged/Motel Hell Another great MGM 2 disc release. Motel Hell FINALLY see's the light of day on DVD, and Deranged is a fun little flick as well. If you are a horror fan, I highly recommend this disc for Motel Hell alone. Edge of Sanity Anthony "Norman Bates" Perkins starring in a Jeckyl and Hyde re-telling. How can you resist? Especially since its yet ANOTHER cheap MGM title. The Fog One of my favourite John Carpenter films arrives on DVD at last. Even better, it's a low priced SE with commentary and more (thanks to MGM). Who can't love a director who calls people who like Pan & Scan over Widescreen "idiots"? House of Clocks Underrated Lucio Fulci film about murder and revenge arrives in North America with a nice transfer. Films like this probably wouldn't be seen in these parts if it wasn't for DVD. Last House on the Left The cult classic finds a home on DVD uncut, with an amazing commentary and a $15 price tag. Do I need to remind you that MGM rules? Needful Things Decent adaptation of the Stephen King story. I wish this was the 3 hour directors version, but what can you do? Reservoir Dogs: Special Edition This is one movie that NEEDED an SE, considering how average the original disc is. This 2 disc SE looks nice, and is available in different covers. Mr. Brown for me please. Return of the Living Dead One of the MOST requested genre titles to be put on DVD finally does, and I couldn't be happier. The transfer looks good, it has a nice commentary and the cover glows in the dark. Brains! Teen Wolf & Teen Wolf Too Teen Wolf is one of my favourite of the innocent 80's comedies. I've never seen the sequel, but to get both for $15 is fine by me. What's the Matter With Helen & Who Slew Auntie Roo? Two more classic thrillers get a widescreen release for a very low price, courtesy of MGM. I hope we see more of these sets in the future. 'Till next week. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 27, 2002 I think we can safely say that MGM is the best label out there today. Is the Teen Wolf/Teen Wolf Too another double feature, or are those two films separate discs? (I can also safely say it'd take me a year to catch up with all the awesome releases this week )

Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted August 27, 2002 "The Rookie" comes out today as well. I will go pick that up in a little while.
Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted August 27, 2002 Don't get The Rookie, I believe Disney in their infinite wisdom have released it in Fullscreen only. Idiots. I mean you can fit both transfers on the same disc and it actually cost more to create a fullscreen transfer. Widscreen TV's are going to become more prevelant. Just cause some yahoo thinks those black bars are cutting out the picture it means we all have to suffer. Bite me Disney, bite me.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted August 27, 2002 Those "yahoos" are a bunch of soccer moms.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 27, 2002 I think we can safely say that MGM is the best label out there today. Is the Teen Wolf/Teen Wolf Too another double feature, or are those two films separate discs? Yes MGM has become great with their cheaply priced horror and b movies. However lets not forget about the greatness that is Anchor Bay.

The Rookie is available in both versions.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted August 27, 2002 FYI, if you get Reservoir Dogs at Best Buy ($15.99), they'll throw in a $5 gift card.
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted August 27, 2002 Don't get The Rookie, I believe Disney in their infinite wisdom have released it in Fullscreen only. Idiots. Actually, it is available in widescreen, but the covers for both versions are EXACTLY the same. This moronic decision will result in hundreds of soccer moms buying the wrong version, then having to return them because of the annoying "black bars". Personally, I don't know anyone would want to buy The Rookie, especially considering how baseball is on the verge of death, and almost everyone hates the sport at the moment because of the impending strike. Baseball = lazy, out of shape millionaires playing a child's game.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted August 28, 2002 BTW, the so-bad-that-Shatner-was-the-best-thing-about-it Iron Chef USA is also out this week. Rent it if you dare...
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 30, 2002 I think we can safely say that MGM is the best label out there today. Is the Teen Wolf/Teen Wolf Too another double feature, or are those two films separate discs? Yes MGM has become great with their cheaply priced horror and b movies. However lets not forget about the greatness that is Anchor Bay. Anchor Bay is good, but aside from Q: The Winged Serpent, which always makes its way into the $10 and under bin, they're rarely cheap. Plus a lot of times they "force" you to buy their ultra-deluxe-super-duper-extra-special edition. Example: I recently bought Wicker Man (AWESOME movie by the way... I can't remember the last time I actually saw that great of an atmosphere and its effects on a main character). Now, not having enough money to buy the ultra-deluxe-super-duper-wooden-box-edition, I had to buy their "regular" edition. I have no problem with this, because I had never seen the film before, however their "regular" edition is of only the U.S. Theatrical Edition, which is missing 10 minutes of footage. The directors cut is of course (only) available in the wooden box. Plus, a lot of times Anchor Bay will charge $20 or more for a disc that'll have no special features at all. Now, granted, Anchor Bay usually has excellent transfers and audio, but other than that unless its certain films (Halloween, Evil Dead) they don't have a whole lot to offer. They're a good label, but (and I know I'm gonna get heat for this) they're overrated.
