Guest poopsicle316 Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Great show, lived up to how stacked it looked on paper. Low Ki beat Chris Daniels and Amercian Dragon in what was seriously the best match I've ever seen in person. The Eddie/Crazy match was great, as was Jay Briscoe/Red. There was a six-way with all 3 SAT and Divine Storm/XL, didn't end up being anything all that great though. All in all though, very very good show.
Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted February 24, 2002 I agree. Best show I've ever been to live. ROH really put on a hell of a debut. I was on the bus coming from NYC, and I'll have a recap and a rant on ROH tomorrow....right now, I'm dead tired, I just got back 20 minutes ago Dames
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 24, 2002 I talk more sh** about RF than anybody but I've heard nothing but glowing reviews so far. I heard the 3way was much better than the Eddy-Crazy matchup which was kind of disappointing. Can anyone post a review? If the show is good enough to purchase then anyone who buys a copy can sell me one.
Guest poopsicle316 Report post Posted February 24, 2002 To start the show, The Christopher Street Connection came out with Alison Danger (who looked like she lost weight, looked hot as hell). They did their gay crap and started kissing until Da Hit Squad came out and destroyed the CSC (put them away with a Burning Hammer). Hit Squad got on the mic and said the stupid gimmicks and valets are what you won't see in ROH, and then put Alison Danger through a table with a powerbomb. The crowd wen't nuts for DHS. Red beat Jay Briscoe after the Red Star Press. Jay seemed to be doing most of the carrying in this match, but Red still looked great. Jay wen't for the Jay Driller at one point, but then lifted Red up into position for a move that looked even more unprotected (I guess you could call it the Jay Driller '91). Really stiff match. Xavier beat Scoot Andrews with whatever his finisher is called. Scoot seemed to get alot of heat from the crowd, even though X basically worked as the heel. Xavier is awesome though, he looked very legit being in the ring with the much bigger Andrews. The Boogie Nights beat the Natural Born Sinners by DQ. Typical Sinners match, still fun as hell to watch. They ultimately were DQ'd by using the rubber chicken. After the match, they bladed referee HC Loc (ECW, CZW) and gave him the Cop Killer. Next was the Ultimate Aerial Elimiation Match. Mikey Whipwreck (guest ref) said the match wouldn't be complete without a midget wearing a Ronald McDonald wig, so Red came out and did double duty. The match only partially resembled a train-wreck (I hate 5 way and 6 ways) and there was tons of those innovative move-for-move sequences that I just love (sarcasm). Quiet Storm and Joel were the last two and Quiet put him away with a sloppy SCD (best...move...ever). Everyone worked real hard and I was glad to see Quiet go over, but a standard six-man match would have been better IMO. Intermission, they wouldn't let people go outside and smoke and there was only one toilet. Just thought you'd want to know that (Y) Prince Nana defeated Towel Boy in a five-star macth of Thesz/Gotch proportions. Ok, it was a total 10-second squash and sucked rocks. I hate Nana and Towel Boy sucks unless hes with Jeff Rocker or being destroyed by CW Anderson. Next... Next was the Shawn Michaels Wrestling Academy tag match in which the winner was awarded a ROH contract. Spanky & Ikaika Loa beat Michael Shane & Oz when Spanky pinned Oz (I think). The match was a bit slow getting started but really picked up and ended up being solid. Spanky cracks me up, you've got to love a slightly-femme vanilla midget that dances around to Christina Aguillara songs. Super Crazy beat Eddie Guerrero to decide the IWA IC championship. Both guys were totally over and looked top notch. Eddie played the heel put the crowd popped HUGE for all his big spots. Crazy eventually won with a quick roll-up which was a slighty weak finish, but that was ok because the work was great up until there. Eddie hasn't lost it at all, he may have a few grey hairs but it's still the same Eddie we know and love. Then came the three-way match. I can't say much about this besides get the goddamn tape. This was anything but a a standard three-way and it in no way resembled any of the matches these 3 had had in the past. The crowd was behind every worker 100%, the match got 5 standing ovations before the finish. I don't want to give anything away, so I'm not going into much more depth than this. But people were chanting "Match of the Year" for a reason. They also announced a round robin tournament (Low Ki vs. Dragon, Low Ki vs. Daniels, and Daniels vs. Dragon) for next month as well as Spanky vs. Jay Briscoe, Red & Brian XL (teaming for the first time) vs. The SAT vs. Divine Storm, and the debut of CW Anderson (maybe he'll wrestle Towel Boy). All in all a great show and I would totally advise checking out next month as I'm sure it will be a great card.
Guest HybridNetwork Report post Posted February 25, 2002 Maybe it's just me, but does it seem a little odd to anyone else that the Three-Way got the main event spot? I would think that the Guerrero/Super Crazy match, a match involving two former "big three" stars, would get the main event spot.
Guest poopsicle316 Report post Posted February 25, 2002 When Eddie first came out, I thought the same thing. But if you see the matches on tape, you'll realize that the three-way was much more of a main event in terms of the match itself and the way it was built.
