Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted August 27, 2002 OK, so while I am quite picky about the clothes I wear, and can be one of those "brand name" boys (ie, I only wear certain brands), I never thought I'd get clothes at Target. Then I find out that Mossimo (a brand I have been wearing for a while) sells clothes exclusively at Target now, and they're more affordable than ever. So, being a college guy on a budget these days, I've now made Target a stop for my "back to school" shopping. I even managed to find a Mossimo hooded sweatshirt that said "Malibu" across it, how sweet is that!? Anyone else been bitten by the Target bug?
Guest starvenger Report post Posted August 27, 2002 Well, if I need things like a toilet brush or remote batteries I'll hit the dollar store, but for things that generally retail for more than $4 you can't beat places like Target or Zellers (in Canada) or Wal-Mart. I can't remember the last time I hit a "regular" department store. I do hit Winners and the American equivalents (like TJ Maxx) to get some reasonably-priced name brands, though. You can generally find some decent stuff there...
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted August 27, 2002 We have 2 Wal Marts and 1 Target here in the middle of nowhere. Im not picky about what I wear, but I don't buy clothes from either place, so Wal Mart wins because they are usually cheaper on everything else that I might buy. Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted August 28, 2002 There's a Target nearby, but it does nothing for me. Maybe because it seems a bit small. I do most of my shopping (sans clothes and video games) at Wal-Mart. The white trash that are always there also make me feel better about myself...

Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted August 28, 2002 "So you haven't experienced the magic that is Target Greatland huh?" I guess not. The store by me isn't tiny, but it isn't like a regular Wal-Mart either. Although there is SOME white trash there, there's not nearly as much as the Wal-Mart I go to. There's no better feeling than watching some hick beat her kid because the brat wants a 30-cent candy bar.

Our Super Wal Mart has these cool candy bars that are half candy bar, half cookie and they are only 20 cents. I bought like 20 of them the last time I was there. 20 candy bars (just about the same weight and size as a full candy bar) for 4 bucks. As I have said many times, the two 24 hour Super Wal Marts are the place to be on Saturday nights here in the middle of nowhere. Thats so sad too.. ahh.. Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted August 29, 2002 Those mega-stores are just too much for me. I want to do my grocery shopping at one store, then my other retail needs at another store. Besides, the buggies at those places are bigger than some foreign cars!
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted August 29, 2002 We just got a Target built down the street, and it's pretty cool. I got my eardrum prescription filled, and got a 10$ giftcard, just for getting my painkillers! Nothing beats walking around in a painless stupor, with a big grin on your face, and having Target pick up the bill for my hygiene products. Super Walmarts are the best. Where else can you drop your car off to get an oil change, get a new hockey stick, buy a new N64 game, get a 12 pack of Vanilla Coke, AND buy a package of white teeshirts, all in the same place. The white trash does make me feel better about myself, because I know that no matter how hard I try, I can never be as dirty and stupid as they are.
Guest Strike Force! Report post Posted August 29, 2002 I do Target for stuff like deodorant, toothpaste, laundry stuff...... I refuse to give one penny of my hard earned money to Wal Mart.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted August 29, 2002 "I refuse to give one penny of my hard earned money to Wal Mart." I don't blame you. I once boycotted Sam's Club (long story) but damit, their clumping cat litter is so damn cheap. It's less expensive than anywhere else, and I get 10 extra lbs! Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted August 29, 2002 Yeah, Walmart is getting pretty bad, but it depends on when you shop there. We have 24hr. ones down here, I like to shop at 230AM and be uninterrupted. It's nice.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 30, 2002 I will not go to a Wal-Mart, I'm exclusive to Target. I swear the people on the p.a. always sound like hicks! I live in the northwest suburbs (and thus I understand Szulcewski's references) and there's still white trash and hicks. Do they have some big headquarters in Arkansas where slack-jawed yokels are deployed to various Wal-Mart's across the nation? I have a feeling that if I went to a Wal-Mart in Hartford, Connecticut, there would be rednecks.
Guest alfdogg Report post Posted August 30, 2002 We have 24 hr Wal-Marts here too. We buy the flavored water there. I have plenty of clothes, so I don't worry about that. I go to Traget once in a while to buy a video game or something.
Guest DerangedHermit Report post Posted August 31, 2002 I don't go to either often (they're out of my way), but when I do (usually when I leave the mall), I go to Wal-Mart. Hey - a few years ago, when I was looking for FF9, no store in the mall had it (Babbages, Planet Comics, Sears, various others) - so what do I do? Go to Microplay. They don't have it. So Wal-Mart's in the same center - and guess what? I found the game, on sale for $19.99 no less.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted September 1, 2002 Grrr... I just bought 4 DVDs there and 1 of them doesn't work! I hate going out of my way to take defective sh*t back...
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 1, 2002 I hardly ever buy new never worn clothes unless they are on sale. I mean shit i'm still wearing shorts I bought 5 years ago and my Adidas shelltoes that i bought almost ten years ago are still the shoes i wear most often. But yeah Target does have decent clothes and even has some big brand names.
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted September 2, 2002 kkk, I'd like to hear the Sam's Club story some time. I'm a big time mark for Sam's. Of course, the fact that my mom owns a small restaurant and shops at Sam's once a week may have influenced me a bit.
Guest Bosstones Fan Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I cleaned up at Target this weekend. I got some socks, a new pair of swim trunks, and 5 shirts for work for a total cost of $50. Can't beat that.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Actually hardyz, if you live in State College, my Sam's Club story took place there. I don't want to get into too much detail, but I made a major purchase there and wrote out a check for the amount. A few days later I notice the $$$ is put back in my bank account. First thing the next day I call Sam's and my bank PNC (EVIL, EVIL institution). Anyway Sam's says they'll get right back to me. I call PNC -- they say everything was fine and they don't know why Sam's returned the check. A week goes by. I call Sam's again. Still nothing. I call again. Finally, the next week goes by and they call me. They never really gave me an explaination as to why they returned my check, but they did say I owe them a $20(? -- I can't remember the exact amount) fee. They said there was no reason the check was returned, but I still had to pay the fee. I exploded. I went to Sam's Club that very day and re-paid the amount in cash (over $1500!), but I paid $20 less than the original amount. When the bitch of a manager mentioned this I said that's because I charged them a $40 inconveinece fee for all my trouble -- $20 for the check fee, $20 for the original amount. She said you can't do that. I said a few choice words. Next thing you know she was calling the cops. I threw the rest of the money at her, said a few more choice words that almost brought her to tears, and stormed out, never to return again. That's why in a nutshell. And for the record, I closed my PNC account as soon as some checks cleared for bills. I don't know why or who was at fault for the mystery of the returned check, so I simply severed ties with both parties, since neither one gave me a straightforward answer... Patty O'Green 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2002 I don't think I have a Wal- Mart near me. But if I need t-shirts and athletic pants for working out I always go to K-Mart or Target.
