Cruiser Weights

Recommended Posts

Guest Choken One

One of the biggest absences in the Wrestling right now is Lightweight wrestling and I know alot of fans are missing it bad...

If/When WWF splits...it's likely that WWF2 will be a wrestling orietated organization and that means Cruiser weights may return...

Looking at the main roster...(not indy or developmentals) that can compete...

Kidman

Crash

Chavo

Tajiri

Hurricane

Matt Hardy

Jeff Hardy

Christian

Funaki

likely Mysterio and Juvi will be picked up and I know they have some other talent in the devlopmentals....

Do they have enough to rebuild a audience with the fans? And who do you put on the top? A over guy like Tajiri or Jeff Hardy or more expirenced Cruiser like Kidman?

I think the WWF has enough crusiers to rebuild. I would put the title on an over crusierweight first. Tajiri already has the belt, so I think he would be a good choice to lead the crusierweight division.

Yeah, i'd definatley stick it on Tajiri first, still manages to get a reaction, even if the most notable thing hes done in the past 3 months is take Goldust's neckbreaker. Bring up some of the developmental kids, and there you go. But please keep the Hardyz the fuck away from it all.

If Tajiri remains Champ when the split happens...they should use Chavo as the crusierweight heel. Then you can start helping the other crusiers find a way to get over.

Yeah Chavo's a great dick heel. And Tajiri also works well with Mexicans.

If they reignited the CW divison...would'nt it be better to have an 8 man tournament?

I think Jeff Hardy would be just fine with the CW's and would be used mainly for popping the crowd.

I agree that Chavo is a good heel to use as well as Tajiri being the one to latch onto quickly.

I just want to keep The Hardyz (well Jeff at least) out of there because of how terrible his work with cruisers tend to be. i've hardly EVER seen him have a good match with another little man, namely because he has to have some offense instead of just getting the shit beat out of him.

Maybe Vince will decide that RVD's style is better suited for cruiserweights and he can help them get over.

Conspiracy theorists would love it.

I actually agree with you on that one.  I would also keep Jerry Lynn out there because he deserves to be working with bigger guys, and he can pull it off convincingly.

I would love it if Dean Malenko came out of retirement and became the old dick heel he used to be when Rey first debuted.

Man, I was fixing to create this topic before I scrolled down so props to you man.

As for the cruiserweights, the WWF can do two things that are huge as far as cruisers go. 1) they can increase the quality of the in-ring product and satisfy a large amount of wrestling fans 2) start promoting minority wrestlers who aren't getting the shots in the BIG time.

Personally, I would love to see Tajiri lead a new cruiser division with some solid storylines. And with the addition of one more guy they can fulfill one of my dream matches...

Tajiri vs Misterio

On average, I think I enjoy cruisers more than the big guys. Imagine what they could do if they had the same amount of time to wrestle, and had storylines ( for me anyway)?

They seem to be more comical as well. The fans have more fun with it, and don't seem to be too serious when watching the matches. Maybe that's a bad thing, I dunno, but they always get good reactions. They would be good to heat up the crowd, as someone said in another post.

I wouldn't mind seeing some CW matches, but for the love of God, please leave Crash Holly out of the division.  The problem is that there is too little tv time to devote to another belt.  The European Title is meaningless already.  Why add another belt to the mix?

But if you're spliting...that would allow WWF2 to take that as it's secondary level.

I'm sorry but Jerry Lynn would be better suited in a cruiserweight division because he's not big enough to be credible as a midcard threat in the heavies. And I actually LIKE Jerry Lynn but Vince isn't gonna push him.

If they split...Wouldent Flair be the new owner???

I'd imagine it would b hard for vince to watch over two leauges. Either Flair runs #2, or Shane runs it off camera.

I agree that Lynn should be in there. Crash and Hardys aren't needed.

Shane Helms should be relieved of the Hurricane gimmick, then the top faces could be Helms, Tajiri, Kidman and the heels Chavo, Juventud and Lynn.

Elix Skipper should be re-hired.

I would'nt mind seeing an RVD/Lynn match in the wwf but it just isn't going to happen. Chavo's doing tough enough 2, so whilst he won't be around at first it will get him over so he should be high up in the cruiser division if and when it exists. As i've said before, fuck them hardyz.

RVD/Lynn did happen on Heat, but it was only short and 95% of Lynn's offensive was cut for the TV boardcast.

I've heard mentioned several time how the ropes in WWF rings limit cruiserweight wrestling compared to WCW. I wonder if the more wrestling orientated WWF2 as we're calling it might alter the ring and ropes to help this. Probably not.

Does anyone else think it's counterproductive and damaging to put a label on a wrestler? After a while, fans start thinking that's all they can do. "Oh, they're too chickenshit to wrestle for the World title", says the casual fan. I'm all for the idea of signing Misterio and Guerrera and pushing Kidman and Taijiri, but why not just mix them in with other wrestlers in the midcard? What happens if a cruiserweight gets massively over? They can't go anywhere because that damn label is hanging over their heads.

Don't get me wrong, WCW's cruiserweight division produced some great matches, but it was seen as a jobber title with a bunch of guys who were content to only wrestle each other because they knew they couldn't hack it against real competition. I just don't want to see those guys get that label here again like they did in WCW, and WCW actually did a decent job promoting the division. But you can't be separate and be equal, otherwise you're not equal.

That's why you have to double up and bunch asome guys into the tag division as people who are threats, and occasionally have them wrestle up. Of course if the cruiserweight title is treated with respect and prestige, it could work on its own.

That's what I have always thought. The Crusierweight Title labeled guys as "too small", IMO. Maybe they could bring out the old WCW TV Title and use that. You can mix the crusiers with some heavyweights that can go ie. RVD, Lance Storm, etc. Use the TV Title as a way to make sure the "little guys" don't get labeled.

Well...Jericho was labeled a cruiserweight...so no...I don't think it hurts them to be labeled.

All that matters is how they decide to push you after your done being a cruiser.

That's the problem. If the cruiserweight division is going to get over, they need a strong heel figure head who's charismatic. Look at WCW...Dean Malenko, Eddy Guerrero, Jericho...all got the division over as strong heels. Hopefully, the WWF will bring back Chavo as that new figure head, or turn Tajiri.

If charisma mattered then Test wouldn't be employed.

You are where they put you.  The WWF controls all.

if the WWF does split will the CW division get any tv time or will WWF2 just feature midcard guys like Test, Big Show, Kane, Albert?

if the CW does get tv time then I think the best way to get over would be to unify the Lightweight, Cruiserweight, and Hardcore titles.  With RVD as champ, who is the most over wrestler that works the style well.  After a few months RVD could job the title to Christian or Kidman.

I thikn Jericho should slim down and bring teh WWF lightheavyweight title out of X-Pac jail, just so he can hold that one too.
