Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted August 28, 2002 The latest cable industry estimates for the buyrates of NWA:TNA are in the range of 20,000 to 25,000 each week. With the massive cutbacks, it seems as if NWA is not losing money with those buyrates, but industry insiders are saying those numbers will have to increase or at least maintain those numbers to avoid becoming unprofitable. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 28, 2002 So wait... You mean the company isn't out of business yet? Surely this means they'll be out of business the week after the next live show. Right? Right? The sky has fallen! Here's something serious to add: They just expanded their ppvs into Canada (at least for the short term so far) and NYC starting in October. They don't need a certain percentage of buys...just raw buy numbers. Those markets open them up for higher buyrates by availability alone.
Guest Mad Dog Report post Posted August 28, 2002 Add to the fact that Dish Network should be picking them up as well. And that they'll be going on closed circuit TV for bars. Hmmm..... looks like NWA might not be in so much trouble after all.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 28, 2002 They aren't in great shape...but it has never been the doom that some people liked to say it was.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted August 28, 2002 Well, I want them to suceed, it's just I can't see them surviving with thier current roster. I'd like to see them add Curt Henning as a challenger to Truth, and American Dragon and Jody Fliesch enter the X-Divsion.
Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted August 28, 2002 The fact they've lasted this long is suprising.. And with WWE putting on Lesnar/HHH/Taker matches, perhaps it'll drive more people NWA-way. Just hope they keep Russo away from the book.
Guest eirejmcmahon Report post Posted August 28, 2002 Shouldn't hard figures for the initial show's buyrates be available by now ?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 28, 2002 Not really. I think I saw a couple weeks ago that they didn't have the hard #s on Mania yet...but they had just gotten No Way Out.
Guest nikowwf Report post Posted August 29, 2002 Good buyrate figures aren't really available until money is paid out, which is 6 months after air date. Even at this time there is still not 100% figures as they are adjusted later on. Its a tough thing for NWA. If they are near "break even", then a few thousand buys could be the difference between being in business or not being in business. But they won't know for a few more months. Guest Mad Dog Report post Posted August 29, 2002 I think it's a good sign for the NWA. At this point they're breaking even and the circulation of the show is about to increase. So even if they just picked up another 2000 buys from this it would make a huge difference. I think the NWA can at least stick around for a few more months with this news.
