Wow. Strange night. Three main things:

1. Why does Sakuraba keep suffering these weirdo fluke injury losses?

2. I've never seen Jerome LeBanner before, but he must have one HELL of a punch to have knocked out Don f'n Frye.

3. Royce lost again. :P

The major story right now is that the ending to the Yoshidi/Gracie match was a big fiasco. It looks liked the ref blew it. Yoshida had Royce in the gi choke but it was not cinched in all the way. Royce did not tap but apparently the ref thought he had gone limp and stopped the match. But after the stoppage, Royce jumped right up and basically said wtf is going on?

After all kinds of chaos in the ring, Royce got on the mic, said he didn't tap, the ref had no honor, etc. and got booed like crazy. What a mess. Looks like the judo/BJJ thing hasn't been settled at all yet.

I don't know :( I really hate that it happened again.. both for Sak, and for the Japanese fans who love the guy to death. I've seen some pics and Sak just looked devastated (emotionally) after the stoppage.

But, when you look at the opponents for his two injuries.. Silva and Cro Cop.. two of the most ferocious fighters around. An injury is a strong possibility when you fight those guys.

2. I've never seen Jerome LeBanner before, but he must have one HELL of a punch to have knocked out Don f'n Frye.

LeBanner hasn't fought in MMA much so it's tough to see his work, but he is one of the best kickboxers in the world. And with this fight being K-1 rules, it was Frye who was completely outmatched. I was always confused as to why he took the fight in the first place. From what I heard Frye got fucked up quite badly by a LeBanner combo. I really like Don so I will not enjoy seeing that too much when I get the tape.

Here's Minotauro submitting the big man

Yoshida trying to work the choke. Even Yoshida admitted afterwards that the fight shouldn't have been stopped. 'Dusty finish' I guess you could call it.

And oh yeah, Goldberg did make an appearance at the show, cut a promo plugging his All Japan matches, and I believe he did some commentary too.

Frye was in WAY over his head.

He could have possibly beaten Mark Hunt ( His original opponent) , but he hd NO chance in a K-1 fight against LeBanner who is one of the premiere Heavyweight K-1 fighters in the world .

Frye was stupid for taking that fight,i wounder if they push for a rematch with Pride rules.

Goldberg got a huge pop apparantly.

Sapp lost in 57sec of round 2, lost to an armbar. Pretty impresive he went the full 10 minutes of round 1.

Not that bad actually. He did quite well for himself in the first round, by most accounts winning the round, before getting gassed in the second. He even picked up and hit Nog with a powerbomb when Nog attempted a triangle.

Scary to think how dominant he might be if he continues to improve. He's a freak of nature.

Don't let Jim Ross see that pic, or we might have to see Sapp on RAW every monday.

I wouldent be surprised to see Sapp in the WWE some were down the line.

There are differing thoughts on what will happen with Sapp. One side says that he'll stick with MMA. He's scheduled to work K-1 sometime this month against some fodder to get him a quick win in the eyes of the K-1 fans. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sapp get another match with Nogueira down the line if they need to pop a big house.

The other train of thought has him following with his friend Goldberg and working All Japan. It's speculated they'll work the Real World Tag League as the monster team but that's still up in the air as Baba is wary of jobbing all their bigger stars to gaijin that aren't going to be sticking around.

Bob Sapp actually had a run in NWA Wildside a while back... I can only imagine what he looked like next to the comparitively small guys in that promotion.

After watching the event a couple times, it sure is sad what happened in the Gracie/Yoshida match. From the replay it looks like the ref had a clear view of Royce's totally unobstructed neck + chin. It sure looked like a Montreal deal to me.
