Guest Strike Force! Report post Posted August 29, 2002 Are you on denial of one of the best hitters in the game? I would hate to see you when Ted Williams and Babe Ruth were playing. Ouch. No denial here. I'm just sick of seeing him or hearing about him. He's a piece of crap. Ted Williams, on the other hand, was not.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted August 29, 2002 Explain this theory of "pieces of crap" to me. I'd really like to know how Barry Bonds, who just might be the best hitter in baseball once its all over, is a piece of crap.
Guest Mad the Swine Report post Posted August 29, 2002 I think Bonds is overrated. Here is a man that still gets a base hit 1 out of 3 official at bats. Yet, everybody walks him. Now, are they walking Alex Rodriguez every at bat? No. Alfonso Soriano? No. Sammy Sosa? No. The killer is that when you put on the Bonds shift, he falls right into it. He does not try and beat it and when you get him to ground to second, he doesn't hustle. Plus, Bonds does nothing but try and hit homers. Then, he'll tweak his hamstring slightly. He'll be out for three days. The man then has the nerve to imply that he's been the same weight since he broke into the majors. On the backs of cards from 1990, Bonds is listed at 180. Yeah, same weight, Barry.
Guest Strike Force! Report post Posted August 29, 2002 Explain this theory of "pieces of crap" to me. I'd really like to know how Barry Bonds, who just might be the best hitter in baseball once its all over, is a piece of crap. It has nothing to do with how good of a player he is. I think he's the greatest player of our generation. He just gets shoved down our throats more than ANY OTHER professional athlete (yes, even moreso than Tiger Woods). I'm sick of seeing his face. Happy now?
Guest Strike Force! Report post Posted August 29, 2002 Oh, also Barry sure has gotten bulkier in the last six years. I'm sure he's got a great weight training program....yeeeah.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted August 29, 2002 Then, he'll tweak his hamstring slightly. He'll be out for three days. Know the facts before you post such a thing. Barry wanted to play every game, its DUSTY BAKER who puts Bonds on the bench. They are in a Wild Card race you know, which means Dusty wanted Barry to be ready during the postseason/late season. The man then has the nerve to imply that he's been the same weight since he broke into the majors. On the backs of cards from 1990, Bonds is listed at 180. Yeah, same weight, Barry. Seriously, WHO THE HELL cares about a persons weight when they are putting up those kinds of numbers.. c'mon .. - 600+ Homeruns - Numerous MVP Awards - Around 5th of all time games played by active players. - 8 Bases on Balls titles - 11 Time All Star - 73 Homeruns one year, then this year he is gonna win the batting title. - Gonna break the OPS record for a season How is that underrated? It's sicking to think someone that puts up those numbers are looked at as being overrated.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted August 29, 2002 Don't worry Strike, even if baseball continues, once the playoffs begin you won't hear the words "Barry Bonds" and "home run" in the same sentence for the rest of the year...
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted August 29, 2002 When I saw a home run sail off of a broken bat that was held by Barry Bonds, it was crystal clear to me: Home runs are overrated. And so is Barry Bonds.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted August 29, 2002 Yeah, really, Octoberblood, pop Bonds' dick from your mouth. He's overrated. Oh he hit 73 in one year? And he's not on 'roids? How so? His previous season high wasn't even above 50. He's not a team player, he doesn't run out groundballs, after games it's always "me, me, me" in press conferences. He's an arrogant, self centered prick. Sure, his numbers are piling up, but he's not the greatest player of all time. I do hope there's not strike, so that I can watch a Bonds-free postseason. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted August 29, 2002 I am becoming more and more convinced that Bonds is not overrated. He is batting around .350 and is going to break his walk record again this year. It's hard to hit if you only get a few pitches a game to hit. He has 40 HRS this year and under 90 RBI because he never gets pitched to with first base open. The walk total shows that he is the most feared hitter in the league by the pitchers and nearly 50 IBB shows that managers are scared of him too. Sure he is an arrogant asshole and I don;t really like him, but it very hard to deny how good a hitter he is today and how good an overall player he had been for years before injuries took his legs away. Steriods (which I would not be supprised to see that he's on) and what not aside this guy can and always has been able to play ball. Plus he hasn't been "shoved down our throats" any more than McGwire and Sosa were, it's just that Bonds is percieved as an asshole and the others aren't that pisses most people off. Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted August 29, 2002 Yeah, really, Octoberblood, pop Bonds' dick from your mouth. Grow up before you try and talk to me. As for the rest of you, its fine to disagree, but why can't you guys have some decent discussion without saying something negitive about the poster itself, so sad.. really. As for Bonds, it was just my opinion. Some Guy: All so true.

Guest alkeiper Report post Posted August 30, 2002 He's on pace to break the On Base Percentage record. Need I say more? I can easily see how you may not like the man, buit you can't deny his accomplishments.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted August 30, 2002 "Grow up before you try and talk to me." Well stop singing the guys praises like he's the second coming of Jesus. Funny how before he hit a ton of homeruns, he was just another baseball player. He was just a guy that rarely made the playoffs, a guy that didn't act like a team player, and then, overnight, sportswriters are all over the guy. I'm not denying his accomplishments, but geez, calm down with the Bonds = Jesus stuff. Great, he's going to break the OBP stat, whoopie. Call me when he leads his team, that he "cares so much about" to a playoff win, or hell, even to the playoffs.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Funny how before he hit a ton of homeruns, he was just another baseball player. Even before the 2001 season, most said Bonds was one of the 3 best left fielders ever. Call me when he leads his team, that he "cares so much about" to a playoff win, or hell, even to the playoffs. Bonds' teams have won six division titles. I think he's led a few teams to the playoffs.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted August 30, 2002 I'm talking current team, Al. The Dodgers are gonna win the WC & The DBacks are going to win the Division. Who said that he was one of the best LF's ever. I don't remember reading anything like that. It's obvious that the only people that are argueing against me are Bonds' marks. Great, he hits fucking homeruns, and doesn't run out groundballs, what a great ballplayer. La-de-dah. I'll take the Royals over Bonds.
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Stats-wise, Bonds is an amazing player, you are right. He's a big contender for the batting title, his on-base percentage is phenomenal, and he's an amazing fielder. My main issue is that Bonds has been playing in one of the most fertile times in baseball history, as far as home runs and team ERAs go. To be fairly blunt about it, last year was one of the first years in almost a decade where the pitching has caught up to the hitting. But this is an argument against baseball, not Bonds. But Bonds does dog it - he doesn't run out the grounders and he's a total dink in the clutch, which is why he leads his teams into the playoffs...and not much farther. That right there takes him out of contention for "greatest player of all time" in my book, regardless of what the stats may reflect.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Wow, learn some baseball before you try and argue. This is pathetic. First you say, "Call me when he leads his team, that he "cares so much about" to a playoff win, or hell, even to the playoffs." - How stupid was that? Because first off all, he has lead the Giants to many playoff runs. After that reached your mind, you say "I'm talking current team, Al. The Dodgers are gonna win the WC & The DBacks are going to win the Division. " - What in the hell is this? It is obvious to all of us, you have no idea what you are talking about. Is 6 not enough for ya? Who said that he was one of the best LF's ever. I don't remember reading anything like that. Oh, no - just about .. everyone with a sense of what baseball is, everyone who doesn't hold grunges on his attitude, but how he actually plays the game. And now .. for the stupidest comment of the night ... *drum roll* ... Funny how before he hit a ton of homeruns, he was just another baseball player. That got me some good laughs, thanks. Are you that ignorant? C'mon.. you can't be.. so you're saying, if a guy hits 73 homeruns in one season, then hits around 50 the next, with his 600th career - AND breaks the walk record, breaks the OPS record, AND ... hits over .370, we shouldn't consider him to be good, or even the best? OMG! Wow .. if Bonds isn't one of the best, then Ted Williams, Tony Gywn, and Babe Ruth must really suck. Dude, learn some baseball - you obviously have no clue what you are talking about. You seem to not even care about the OBP stat, which is one of the best stats in baseball.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted August 30, 2002 His current team is 2-3 games back, and easy margin to make up. This comes from Bill James' Historical Baseball Abstract, written in 2000....... "When people begin to take in all of his accomplishments, Bonds may well be rated among the five greatest players in the history of the game."

Guest Mad the Swine Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Bonds does have a certain mystique. Pitchers are scared of him. I'm not really sure as to why. Here we have Alex Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa, and Lance Berkman putting up big power numbers this year. None of these guys get the walks. Why does Bonds? It's not like he's going to smack it out of the park every single time. He's not going to do that even a third of the time he gets an official at bat. (Before I get October Blood all over me again (boy does that sound different to us females), how many hits does he have and how many are homers?) The scared pitchers probably due constitute a large number of his homers. They leave one over the plate when they don't walk him. Sure, I've seen Barry reach out and get some that actually were pitcher's pitches. But some of that could probably be attributed to things physically impossible to let's say a Bonds against the same pitching in 1989. I'm not saying, though, Bonds is not a good hitter. I just think he's way overrated and in my own personal book, nowhere near the level of Williams, Cobb, Ruth, Mantle, Aaron, etc.
Guest Leena Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Im tired of Bonds, and all of baseball. Youd have be an idiot to not realize that a vast majority of these players are taking steroids. Bonds had always been around the 30 home run mark his entire career, and suddenly hes busting home runs almost every game? Come on. Theres something going on considering that just 10 years ago, it was extremely rare to see players hitting 40 home runs, and now theres handfuls of players hitting 40.
