Guest JAxlMorrison Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Yeah, I figured I'd be the one to start this topic since I have been a GNR mark since I was like 9. Axl is still in remarkable voice, his songwriting skills have done nothing but get better, and the new band fuckin rocks! So what did you guys think of their surprise appearance tonight? Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Nice suprise... Axl's voice has seen better days... But when you break it down it's the Axl Rose solo project...I'm going to give them a chance though
Guest massivHEDtrauma Report post Posted August 30, 2002 I marked out so hard for them tonight, even if it was only Axl and Dizzy. It still rocked. I love BUCKETHEAD~! I hope that whenever a new album comes out it will be worth it. I cannot wait to hear it nonetheless. And rest assured I will be playing all my G 'N' R CD's/tapes for the next week or two, as I grew up on them as well(and Van Halen and Poison and AC/DC...my mom and dad are all about the rock). EDIT: Laughing like hell at the title and subtitle of this thread. Millhouse RULES~!
Guest BifEverchad Report post Posted August 30, 2002 "GNR IS BACK.....in pog form!" hahahaha anyways, yeah the G 'N' R performance was quite the surprise. I havent seen Axl in a couple of years now, but he looks decent. Not half as bad as I expected. The new band sounds good, with Axl's vocals sounding a tad off during the beginning of "Welcome to the Jungle". Maybe it was because he was running around on the stage like a maniac, but hey. Anyways all in all, I really enjoyed it. It was good to finally see him and the newbies back on TV, and hopefully they can piece together the loose ends and finally release the "Chinese Democracy" album, (or whatever they are gonna call it now) for all the hardcore Guns 'N Roses fans.. question: what was the second song they performed on the show? I know they did Welcome to the Jungle, then another and finished off with Paradise City, but I can't recall the second one. Anyone? Bif B)
Guest converge241 Report post Posted August 30, 2002 WRONG!! AXL is back Guns N Roses does not exist anymore. as good as buckethead and Finck may play this is just a bad gnr cover band. I got my hopes up that the surprise would be the actual reformation of gnr not gnr mach 3 with all the same session people that have been with Axl for a few years now. nice "new" hair AXL
Guest converge241 Report post Posted August 30, 2002 oh btw, the second song is from the chinese democracy and is his attempt to do stuff like trent was doing on "the fragile". they played it live at the handful of dates they did when they performed like last or 2 new years eves ago. it sounded great and all but im just saying, ITS NOT GNR!! Guest prez Report post Posted August 30, 2002 The song is called "Madagascar".
Guest Fort Detrick Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Buckethead is awesome. But it's not G'N'R until Slash, Duff, and especially Izzy get back in. For now I will refer to this band as the Axl Rose Project.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Ah yes, the good ol' GNR days. I have three GNR CDs.. yippie.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 31, 2002 I actually liked the second song the best. Axl's voice couldn't handle the two old songs anymore... although it was a good idea to medly them to kick it off with a big hit and end with a big hit to send the crowd home happy. I dug "MAdagascar"
Guest Ozymandias Report post Posted August 31, 2002 Important announcment: I'm am replacing the phrase "Fat Elvis" with "Axl 2002" in my personal vocabulary. Thought you'd wanna know....
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted August 31, 2002 shit at first I thought it was Kid Rock doing a cover of GNR.
Guest Y2BigJ Report post Posted August 31, 2002 I actually think it was axel's eai piece and the sound system more then axl's voice. Still I have been a hardcore GnR marks since 2nd grade own all the albums and what not so I'm pretty biased.
Guest ZGangsta Report post Posted August 31, 2002 At least Axl didn't lip sync the songs like everyone else (excecpt the Vines) was obviously doing.
Guest JAxlMorrison Report post Posted September 1, 2002 Important announcment: I'm am replacing the phrase "Fat Elvis" with "Axl 2002" in my personal vocabulary. Thought you'd wanna know.... You attempted to be clever there and just made no sense. Elvis put on like 110 pounds, Axl looks like he put on like 15, and most of it muscle.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 1, 2002 Well maybe it's just me then, but they sounded terrible on that show especially Axl.
Guest poopsaver4000 Report post Posted September 1, 2002 I thought they sounded pretty good, Axl had a lot of energy. However, I think his voice is always like that live, I mean, you must admit he isn't the best live singer. Though, is it Guns N' Roses? No. Is it a pretty damn good imitation that sounds almost the same? Yes. Should they change the name to The Axl Rose Project or something besides Guns N' Roses? Definitely. You attempted to be clever there and just made no sense. Elvis put on like 110 pounds, Axl looks like he put on like 15, and most of it muscle. I was clever, you didn't get it. Fat Elvis refers to when a star completly goes off the deep end and is unable to conduct themselves normally without first spending 90 minutes thinking of how famous and godlike they are. Axl hasn't seen reality for 10 years, hence he's Fat Elvis.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted September 2, 2002 shit at first I thought it was Kid Rock doing a cover of GNR. LOL!!! So did my wife. I thought it was the lead singer for Offspring then "Jungle" played and something seemed to be lacking. Maybe it was seeing Slash on the Micheal Jackson show a few weeks back or maybe it was listening to Duff's solo album a couple of weeks ago. Either way, I would compare that performance to David Lee Roth singing Van Halen songs without the actual band. Hey, while I don't object to Axl milking his fame for all it's worth, it just doesn't seem right to call this band GN'R.
Guest massivHEDtrauma Report post Posted September 2, 2002 At least Axl didn't lip sync the songs like everyone else (excecpt the Vines) was obviously doing. Howlin' Pelle Almqvist of The Hives didn't lip synch. And they blew The Vines off the frickin' stage, dammit. Guns 'N' Roses, yes, I am happy at the return. Anyways...anyone else think there is a slim chance that Buckethead might, in fact, BE Slash? They pose the same and Buckethead has long curly black hair. And he sure as hell SHREDS like Slash. Any chance at all?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I actually thought the guy with a bucket on his head was trying to resemble Slash. I was saying the hair's a wig and he had a mask on so maybe he was trying to resemble him, but the theory that it's really slash is interesting now. Either way it was an awful performance that i hope to never see again. I mean come on he could barely sing his own songs without looking lost. This whole "well he was never a good live singer" argument is trash. If he was that bad live then why isn't he singing horribly(like he was on vmas) in that concert video of Paradise City? Guest mesepher Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I actually thought the guy with a bucket on his head was trying to resemble Slash. I was saying the hair's a wig and he had a mask on so maybe he was trying to resemble him no... thats his gimmick. Hence the name, Buckethead. They pose the same and Buckethead has long curly black hair. And he sure as hell SHREDS like Slash. Any chance at all? that's really interesting... We would need to do some background info on both Slash and Buckethead to see when each person toured... Buckethead is friends with Les Claypool and I dont think Slash is too into the whole "jam scene" but who knows.
Guest Ozymandias Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Well, I know that Buckethead toured with Primus for Ozzfest '99, so you can check to see if Slash was touring elsewhere at the time. I don't think they look alike at all - Buckethead is about 20 pounds lighter than SLash is now.
Guest poopsaver4000 Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Buckethead is also about 6'5" (without the bucket), and I don't think Slash is that tall (without his hat).
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted September 2, 2002 El Santanico must have preffered the Justin Timberlake blow away performance.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted September 2, 2002 El Santanico must have preffered the Justin Timberlake blow away performance. If that's sarcasm, umm... aren't you into some of that pop stuff or is it just the hot girl pop and not the creepy boyband pop? Anyway, it was a big moment, I pretty much only watched the replay to see GnR play (and the Moby/EM controversy which was inexplicably removed), but Axl did sound horrible.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Um...no, all the performances except the guy that acts like Mick Jaggar sucked. Axl was just as awful as Timberlake at the VMAs. Saying what Axl did was good just because you liked Guns N' Roses is an insult to that band you liked back then.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I don't see how... I cleraly posted that Axl sounded bad earlier in the thread...but that the second song was where he sounded best. Just as bad as Justin Timberlake? He didn't even sing...that's just silly. The Mick Jagger guy did rule though.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted September 2, 2002 EDIT: nevermind
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Rather or not Timberlakes performance was good isn't the point. It's just that the Axl performance was so bad that nothing Timberlake did was any worse then Axl and both were equally bad at the vmas. The faux gnr was fine, but Axl was brutal and no better then Timberlake like it or not.
