Under 15 hours until the first pitcher of the first game tomorrow.

I suggest everyone watch Baseball Tonight right now, they have live updates from New York.

They are still working on getting a deal done.

Posted

Sorry, but I dont think theres anything more boring than hearing strike negotiations.

Posted

Bah, let them go on strike. A year or more without baseball may be just what we need.

Posted

At least it makes SportsCenter more interesting.

They can focus on the US Open!

Baseball is my life, and It would kill me if another strike happens. Sorry tom, but I totally disagree.

They're saying now that the Red Sox leave for Cleveland at 7:30 a.m., so if there's no agreement by then ... we;ve got a strike.

I need cable, though.

I can't stand to watch unless they're announcing a settlement. Otherwise its incredibly tedious. Luckily, I have a backup plan. The Scranton/Wilkes Barre Red Barons are in the playoffs!

Yeah, that is a scary thought.

Digital Cable is the way to go!

Digital Cable is the way to go!

Nah, it's just that the college is too lazy to send a guy over to my dorm to flip a switch to give me cable. I better have it by the time football season starts, or I'm kicking some REAL ass ...

Magic number's at 1 for the IL North title.

I love baseball, too. I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. In addition to watching and going when I can, I've done fantasy baseball for four years now, and this year, I'm in three different leagues (and winning two of them).

But I want to see a strike. For this season and all of next season.

It's the only thing that will teach billionaires and millionaires fighting over money that we the fans are sick of their shit. It's the only thing that will give the owners, players, fans, and the media the proper perspective on the GAME of baseball.

In 2004, we'll all come back to the game with the lessons that losing it for over a year has taught us. I think it would be much better in every imaginable way if that happened.

Which college to you goto?

Lafayette, yo. However, one more year, and I'm DONE! WHOO!! I'm sick of being poor and cramped in a dorm room.

Times like these I wish I was back in the US. I remember during the 1994 strike, it was kind of fun watching Sportscenter as they tried to find something of interest to talk about during it. I believe they ended up showing Triple A baseball highlights to fill time. It was kind of cool, in a way.

Of course now I live in Canada, so they will probably fill the time talking about Canadian football or something, though I might tune in to see what they do to fill time. It could be interesting.

Dr. Tom, I dont understand what you're saying.

What will the billionaires learn out of this? I see that you even mentioned that the fans will all come back. I dont see how they learn a thing out of this.

What lessons will the fans learn?

With the enormous salaries that the players are making, the fans will always care how much they make. The sports channels will always mention the huge salaries, especially if some form of salary cap is formed.

The purity of the game is something that will never come back.

It was very different. I remember for Sunday Night Baseball, they would show Michael Jordan with the Birmingham Barons many nights.

SportsCenter did show Triple A highlights, but they also focused on the other sports as well. I hate watching SportsCenter from April-October, because it's 90% baseball highlights, which gets boring quick, and is even worse considering they have Baseball Tonight after every show.

Alina, are you implying baseball is boring?

Posted

I have nothing against baseball. Playing baseball (or softball in my case) is extremely fun.

I watch baseball sometimes, but I do admit its not something I really enjoy. I just think its on way, way too much on ESPN and SportsCenter currently, they have day and night games almost every day it seems now. The games are too slow-paced, and watching highlights of home runs constantly gets dull pretty quick too.

Baseball Tonight went a little overboard playing Chopin's Funeral March. The sides are really close and if something isn't done Friday it will only be a few days before an agreement is reached.

Well if they cancel the postseason like they did in 1994-

cya baseball

I'm optimistic, but I'll admit my mood would change if the season is wiped out.

I'm the total opposite. I'd rather ESPN report on the labor negotiations, because as long as a strike is looming, none of these highlights, scores, or stats mean anything.

Still no Deal!

The Boston Bus got delayed, and they are still trying to get a deal.

They've got til sometime around 3est, thats when the first game is played, Cubs vs. Cards.

I'm thinking of going to the Vet and saying "if there's a strike, can I still get my Phudd cap?"

ESPN is saying there WILL be a deal done today.. and that sources have told Ferh, "We Are Not Walking today" ..

THE DEAL IS DONE! NO STRIKE!

Through 2006, and there will not be contraction.

Well, that's good news.

Now we wait until 2006 to do it all over again.

It is good news for the players and owners. The bad news is that people will still stay away from baseball. I honestly wonder if MLB as it currently exists will even LAST to 2006...

Guest OctoberBlood

I don't think there is any question it will last til 2006, and far more.

No Contraction! Lux. Tax! Rev. Sharing! So much good news.

I agree totally. Nothing will or has changed. Sure, there will be baseball played. But the damage has been done, IMO. Oh well, Im just glad there is going to be a postseason. MLB playoffs is the best postseason in professional sports.
