Guest DragonflyKid Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Let the A's dynasty commence. Now that they'll have extra money to resign the players they already have I see a bright future.
Guest Leena Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I dont really see what they did. From what I heard, the luxury tax won't be in effect until the 4th year of the deal, which is also the last year of the deal. Isn't the luxury tax (another form of a salary cap) the big thing to get these smaller market teams competitive?
Guest OctoberBlood Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 They got Rev. Sharing, and stoped contraction, those are two big deals.
Guest Leena Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Contraction was more of an idle threat, since the Twins weren't going anywhere.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 It wasn't only the Twins.. but anyways, if you don't know how much this means, then I suggest you read, or watch ESPN news.
Guest Phr33k Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Contraction was still an issue with the Marlins and D-Rays, while the Twins have recovered and the Expos are expected to move. Either way, it's good for baseball. Now I get to watch Expos/Braves tonight!
Guest Kingpk Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 The Yankees are already bitching, John Sterling called the luxury tax "The Yankee tax" on FOX News. Hey, now that it's over, maybe Tony Clark will finally start rolling? ......Keep dreaming Pete.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 The Yankees are already bitching, John Sterling called the luxury tax "The Yankee tax" on FOX News. Whats new? Thats why I totally hate the yankees and New York.
Guest alkeiper Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 What do you expect? These are the same people who keep kissing Miracle Fielding Boy's ass every chance they get despite every statistical evidence to the contrary.
Guest Leena Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 It wasn't only the Twins.. but anyways, if you don't know how much this means, then I suggest you read, or watch ESPN news. No other teams had a chance with contraction, because the owner has to agree that he doesn't want the team. That's what they said about the Devil Rays on ESPN. I do know how much it means, it's just rather confusing. There will be revenue sharing, but the Yankees will still have the most money, and the other teams like the Phillies will continue not to spend the money, so it may be pointless. The business parts kind of go over my head.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 The actual agreement hasn't been released so maybe the small market owners agreed to spend a certain perctange of the revenue sharing on the team. Either way this means the Twins are going to the postseason for the first time in 11 yrs.
Guest jimmy no nose Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 According to ESPN they don't have to put any of the money in to the team. The money is meant to help them turn a profit, so they can use it as they want.

He better sell the team because he's not going to spend the money on the team.
