"That's what the last website that Rotten made was like.

Anyways...having a site definitely will help. But just having an SWF site out in the middle of nowhere won't do much either, which is why we need more support thesmartmarks site as well.

And we are an e-fed, not just a message board game. I mean we're no FWF...oh wait...they just shut down due to incompetance and corruption...I guess we're better.

No, you're right, we DO need to get our names out there.

That's why we keep the Smartmarks name and keep their support... but we don't base ourselves SOLELY on the message board. We use the board for promos and OOC matters... however, we would post shows and cards on the site in it's own section, etc. We'd probably even need our own server which can be paid by sponsership and whatnot, but that's farther down the road.

Basically, we're gonna need to take the step transitioning from a solely board fed into an e-fed of our own. This fed has the writers to do that, we can be a very, very credible fed... but not if we're just a few guys on a message board writing love letters to each other.

I agree the sponsership (thus, thesmartmarks) is a big part of it... but we need to do our part too.

However, in order to take the next step, the website is needed... there's no question about it.

Back to the FWF for a moment...the whole thing sounds oddly familiar. The head guys pushing wrestlers they liked over people who worked well...didn't I read somewhere about this happening in the NWA? Or WCW? Or the WWF, for that matter?...I mean, talk about history repeating itself, huh?

"Once again...incase you've forgotten that's exactly what we did with Rotten's site.

Anyways...I personally don't think an e-fed with a site is necessarily any better or more of a valid e-fed than one without. I mean by your logic any jerkoff who can start up a website is better than us and headed to sure success.

It's a good promotional tool, can help bring people in and provides a nice front for the fed, but that's about it. It's just the flashy wrapper on the fed.

Stubby, you won't get any new wrestlers trying to market a small corner of a message board run by a large site.

That's the thing, we've always been trying to show we're a solid entity, but people still see us as those guys on the smartmarks message board that play a game. We're not really seen as an organization, and that's the problem.

Until we show we're independent, we're not gonna get any new people. We've already exhausted the resource of writers on this system and we won't get any more people without independently marketing ourselves as something more than a corner of a message board.

However, nobody's gonna do anything about it, so it's a moot point. Forget I said anything.

"Yeah...and if we get a website we'd just be those guys who play a game on a website.

A website will help, but it's not the be-all, end-all.

Getting more of a presence on thesmartmarks and getting a website are important, and hopefully both will happen in the coming months.

Oh...and this place is better run and more entertaining than the vast majority of crap e-feds on the net in my opinion, but if the SWF is just a dis-organized little game I don't see why you hang around. Unless it's to impart amazing pieces of wisdom like "a website will help the fed". Well duh...ya' think?

I'm not saying we're a disorganized little game, I'm saying we're better than we are showing right now. Right now, we're a corner of a message board. We need to become more independant and show that we're a serious fed.

For the record, the reason I want to help is because I got my start with this fed. I still wish to be involved even though I've been busy as hell lately and I'll resolve that soon. Frankly, it's none of your business to question the reason why I hang around.

FYI: I've been sending correspondence to Dames about getting us a column and a working link, but he's stopped responding. Going to start going for some of the auxiliary Smartmarks guys next.

I'm not personally convinced that a website is a necessity. I think that just getting the word out on the net that our fed is teh roq would suffice nicely. Thus it would draw more people to the smartmarks forums and that would convince the people who run the site to have a little more freedom and space on the site.

Now I am almost completely computer illiterate, but is there someway that we could have a site linked from the smartmarks forum? If so do you think that whoever runs the smartmarks might feel a tad threatened that about 30 or so active posters on both forums who actively tell people to come to their site would up and leave?

I'm not saying that a site is a bad thing, but I personally feel it isn't a necessity in order for the growth of the fed. If we are attached to a popular website then we are more likely to get new wrestlers than if we were an e-fed just floating around in cyberspace.

Shut up, leaguer. :D

Thoth and I have been pimping the e-fed in our open diaries, which has resulted in nothing as yet. Edwin's column would be a great thing, but apparently that's going to be a problem. Why don't we talk to, say, Bower and Scotsman and see if they're willing to give us a shoutout?

If this suggestion is stupid or makes no sense, please blame it on the Allegra, as I'm out of Claritin.

There's a plan for a start. I don't know if they'll want to send traffic away from their site and to someone else, but it might work.

Now, I have to go read Beowulf, so someone jump all over that.

Well allow me to add my thoughts to this if you will.

First off Outcast is right about needing a website to make the fed look like it's more able to go head to head with other major e-feds. Posting shows on the message board is fine, but posting it to the site as well would give intrested people a chance to see what all the hoopla is about.

However a website alone will do nothing unless you know how to properly market it, and get word out about it. Simple stuff one can do is affiliate yourself with other wrestling sites, to get a link on their site. Web rings, as well as a handful of you guys going out to other wrestling web sites and become SWF promoting whores. Making the SWF site pop up first when someone does a search for E-feds, etc.

To make it all work you have to first have a site that can be very user friendly, and of course have the ability to be updated by others who don't know jack about HTML. Plus several people that will constantly keep up with the site. Someone who has plenty of time to do it, and can admit they don't have the time when they don't. Allowing another with more time to take on the task.

I tried it once but had several other projects at the same time that kept me from putting in the correct amount of time. Plus everyone wants to tell you how it should be designed without even understanding how the backbones of these systems work. Hell i still have the completed working version sitting on my computer, the timing was just never right.

Brimstone Out!

FYI, an update: just got word back from Dames. We're good to go on getting a Smartmarks column, and he'll be giving me more details very soon.

And Taft: the Seamus Heaney translation is required reading for my History of English lit course. Definitely check it out if you haven't--his interpretation is wonderful.

Not yet, Judge. Dames said he'd get back to me soon, hopefully tomorrow, and then we'll have a decent idea. We'll figure out who'll write it and all once we get all the specifics, I guess.

A suggestion right now: If he can, have Grand Slam try it. It does make some sense (He knows the ins and outs of the SWF, offer insightful commentary from his own firsthand experience, knows most of the guys on the roster, and can give it an 'Inside Scoop' feel with his knowhow.) and he is a great writer. I just think it would be better if it came from a retiree and possibly in character, so who better than him for the SWF. And maybe SK or Axis could switch it off for the SJL, doing a heel/face perspective on things. Have you and Stubby give a little state of the fed address every month or so, and I think you would have it all set.

I don't know who this "Powerplay" chap is, but I think I like him!!

I don't want to horn in on anything, but if asked, I would be willing to write something. However, this looks like Edwin's gig, and I think he would do a spectacular job.

We need a lot of things for this fed. We need the link from thesmartmarks to work right. We need links from other sites as well if we can find some. And we need a website so that when people use Yahoo! or MSN or something to search, we come up.

We used to, the old site came up that way, but nothing anymore. That's how I found the old IGNWF and I think that's how most people find this stuff on the web.
