The one and only Rap Sucks thread

How many of you out there are sick and tired of crappy rappers clogging MTV, Much Music, MTV 2 and even now VH1's airwaves. Now I'll admit there are some decent rappers out there(Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg) as there is with every genre with music. But 95% of rap music sucks the chrome off a trailer hitch. This isn't a race thing I hate all crappy musicians(If you call rap music) black, white, puerto rican But the two I hate the most of all are P. Diddy and Eminem

P. Diddy: I hate this fucker for two reasons cause he's a god damn poser and his music sucks donky testicles. He mooched off poor Biggie Smalls death to make his own album and streched the success way too long. Instead of creating his own hits he just runs around in other artists videos sucking off there success(Same thing with Pharrel and god damn Timberland)

Eminem: I don't hate this guy for the obvious reasons, his music doesn't suck that much if not at all, I'll admit he's pretty talented and he's got three number one albums and a grammy to back it up. I don't hate him cause his lyrics, if you don't like them don't listen to them which is what I do I flip the god damn station whenever his video comes on. It's cause he's a god damn pussy, he either insults people that he knows won't fight back that much(Moby, Christina Aguillara, Boy bands) or backs off from fights he knows he won't win(Shaggy 2 Dope, Vanilla Ice, Everlast). I hate him cause he represents what's wrong in rap. And no I don't think he's selling his music to kids but kids are a major demographic in his fan base.

5 rappers I don't hate(In no order)

1. Dr. Dre

2. Snoop Dogg

3.Tupac(He was a thug but at least he had a message in most of his songs

4.Public Enemy(Perhaps one of the greatest groups of all time rap or not)

5.DMX

Honorable mentions: Nappy Roots, Outkast and Nas

10 rappers I do hate(In no order)

1. P. Diddy

2.Eminem

3. Jay-Z

4. Timberland

5.Missy Elliot

6.Ludacris

7. Bubba Sparxxx

8. Will Smith

9. Mase

10. Xzibit

Remember this all a matter of opinion and don't attack me personally just attack my opinions :D

I look at it this way: Yes, most mainstream hip hop is not very good. It's still a lot better than most mainstream rock music. The instrumentation is more varied and interesting, the lyrics actually speak to people other than 13 year olds with low self-esteem, and the personalities behind it are much more compelling and marketable. So of course MTV and all of these other music channels are going to favor that sort of music...it wouldn't make any sense not to. As long as they continue to play stuff that I like every once in a while--the White Stripes, for instance--then I'm fine. I'd rather hear Nelly than Nickelback, anyway.

I wouldn't I'd rather hear neither, but seriously though I don't like most music on MTV or mainstream radio period, so you know what I listen to the classic rock station I'd rather hear AC/DC, Metallica and Guns N Roses then the shit of the week there playing on the radio and MTV. I guess I hate mainstream rap more then mainstream rock guess I grew up with rock and I didn't grow up with rap.

I think probably 95% of the music from any genre sucks. That's not really unique to rap. If it's disproportionately overplayed on radio and the video channels, I wouldn't know, because I am not exposed to either medium very often.

I just wanna give a Big (((((((FUCK YOU))))))) to Fred Durst.

He's not technically a Rapper, but he thinks he is.

And like Eminem, he talked a lot of shit and when someone stood up to him, he'd back down like a bitch he is.

In regards to rap/hip-hop, it's one of the most underrated genres out there; the underground is where its at. Seriously, I used to be one of those "I hate rap" guys a few years ago... but DAMN! If there's any genre where I dislike the majority of the well-known artists, it's rap.

But hey, in a way that's good because when I bought the Blackalicious CD it was only $10 at Target because everyone was too busy buying up Dirty South albums... speaking of which, whatever happened to Cash Money? They had some pretty good production... bling bling!

I can't stand Rap, either. I'm more of a metalhead than anything else, but not too seriously into any form of music. Just don't like rap.

Curt Hennig said it best in 1999:

"I like country music,

I love country girls.

I like Willie Nelson,

And don't forget about Pearl.

There's only one thing that I hate,

'Cause it's a bunch of crap.

I hate rap!..."

...

Okay. Personally, I like everything, including rap. I'm not into it more than a few songs/rappers, but still. I can't stand Eminem (another reason why I hate Utah), Fred Durst sucks.. Who's P-Diddy? Psh.

I'm not too serious with any of it, so I don't care about rapper feuds or anything. But damn NOBODY~! messes with Moby.

Evenflow and Kinetic pretty much said it. Most mainstream Hiphop blows balls because major record labels only accept certain styles. Conscious Hiphop with subversive and/or thought-provoking lyrics just doesn't sell. Eminem is probably the most talented mainstream rapper out, but then he's good by any standards. Still, the underground is where it's at. Hieroglyphics (especially Souls of Mischief, but Del the Funky Homosapien is my favourite), Zion I, the aforementioned Blackalicious, Mos Def and Talib Kweli have all been known to convert HHHaters (HipHopHaters). Especially Mos Def and Hieroglyphics.

Allow me to state that Bling Bling rap makes baby Jesus cry. Take away the hot beats and catchy hooks and you have ass, my friend. Pure ass.

P. Diddy also deserves death, for the exact reasons that KingKamala stated. And also his appearance in EVERY FUCKING VIDEO. And taking partial production credit for just saying 'Come on' or 'Take Dat'. Slapper.

And Nickelback > Nelly. Nelly = Bitch.

most main stream rap and hiphop have absolutely no originality....it's either all sampled or just stupid. I haven't heard much underground stuff.

Plus mainstream rap is responsible for some of the most annoying sayings and phrases out there today. Nothing pisses me off more than some idiot quoting a rapper to sound cool but coming off as a really immature moron instead.

Nothing annoys me more than when I see a 20-something white guy with cargo sweatpants, construction boots, a ginny tee with a backwards football jersey or only one sleeve is on, the other is around the shoulder, a long ass silver chain with a big medal on the end of it, with a brand new baseball cap, unformed, of a team they aren't even a fan of sideways.

And I have to wait upwards of 2 hours to get my hair cut because these motherfuckers think they need their fades re-done every week.

Other than that, I'm a pretty positive person...

Ice T's okay in my book. He appeared on a Six Feet Under record.

Don't forget about Body Count and the infamous "Cop Killer" track!

Also, Cunny, I must say that you have excellent taste in hip-hop. I'm especially a big Del fan, even though its difficult to find any of his records around here other than Deltron 3030 and Both Sides of the Brain (neither of which I own, unfortunately, but I have the Deltron instrumentals).

Cunny, what do you think about Common? I like a lot of his tracks, but I don't like how he has lyrics that are just as homophobic as any other rapper, but that most critics "let him get away with it" because he's a conscious rapper.

I think you're just jealous because everytime I come around your city (bling bling!) that you ain't heard about ditty (bling bling!)... but I digress.

Cash Money are still around, and they have new albums? Geez, shows how much I listen to the radio these days

Oh, now I think I know.. the new song is "bla bla bla 'cuz my money's spent, and da da da, but I'm still fly!" right? I heard it a few times on the road trip... great hook, and given my constant monetary issues one I should probably take as a personal anthem, but Cunny's got it right on the money (Cash Money!) when he says that if ya strip the music and the hook you've got NOTHING! Which in a way is too bad, because even though I hate the verses and I'd never buy the CD, I'll admit some of those hooks are pretty fun.

(taken from a BET Comic View routine)

Cash Money Millionaires have everything on dubs!

"My truck's ON DUBS!"

"My scooter's ON DUBS!"

"I got me a house, and it's ON DUBS!"

"I got the world on layaway, and it's ON DUBS!"

I just can't stand the constant talk about money. I mean, if I hear "24s with tin" or ten or whatever, I'm going to scream so loud every SmartMark will be able to hear me.

so we generalize this.

rap goes to the people who love the bling bling and simplistic beats.

nu-metal goes to the 14 year old guys who think its cool to tell the world to fuck off because they are "depressed"

punk/emo really has no meaning, except kicking ass towards mtv wannabe's.

pop is for mindless 12 year old girls.

so this leaves out Classic Rock, and underground music, trance, industrial...

ya... mainstream does suck ass

Punk and emo are not even close to the same thing and I hate how they get lumped in together now. Punk, by definition, is about doing whatever is anti-musical and anti-society, i.e. old school punkers like The Sex Pistols and The Ramones. Seeing as how stuff like that has BECOME popular, which is what it was originally created to revolt against, anything truly punk in the truest sense of the word would be like 15 minute orchestral stuff with actual integrity and artistic statement. Sadly, old school punk, which I am a huge fan of, has given birth to "whiny punk" or what would technically be called emo, distinguished by its self-loathing and whiny statements. I like emo to an extent, but it can DEFINITELY wear thin real quickly. There's only so much of the shit one can take. Sometimes you just need to jam to a song that doesn't really make much sense or have any meaning, such as "I've Got An Ape Drape" by The Vandals, a song by an old school-style punk band about the kickassedness of mullets. Anyways...I digress.

I think the whole "Eminem would back down from anybody" schtick is part of his act, actually. The fact that's he's this psychotic zany Slim Shady guy underneath Marshall Mathers. As it is, it at least results in rap that actually gets it done musically and entertainment-wise.

As for me, though, almost all music has it's stale points. Rock recycles the same chord changes, Rap recycles the same beats. If you really sit down and analyze everything, you'll find that everything's a rip-off of something. To me, popular music (barring the Kinks revivalist, which is masochistic punishment of another kind) sounds exactly the same now as it did four years ago...and that's not a good thing.

EVERYTHING is stale. Rap, rock...it all sucks nowadays.

While I have never been a major fan of rap, I had my favorites back in the 80's (Ice T, KRS One, Public Enemy). I find this current group of rappers (Jayz, Puffy, JaRule, Nelly) to be completely uninspiring. They all seem so pre-packaged and phony, something that totally contradicts the original appeal of rap. JaRule in particular really annoys me. He seems like some kind of musical Don King, sticking his face into everyones videos.
