Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted August 30, 2002 WWE Smackdown finished with a 3.1 rating and 5 share this week. That is way down from the 3.6 the show did last week. It should be noted that New York, Baltimore, and most of Florida had Smackdown pre-empted, which obviously brought the number down. Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted August 30, 2002 With Smackdown being Pre-Empted, that rating doesn't mean anything.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted August 30, 2002 yeah they can add up to .3 points from the replay and divide that in half because everyone never watches it when they move it, so they can add up to .15 to that!! A BIG 3.25!!!
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Ratings shouldn't mean anything right now. The show was very good and that's what should matter.
Guest Mole Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Well when the show was pre-empted in 3 major markets, no wonder it didn't very well.
Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted August 30, 2002 The Wrestling Observer stated that the pre-empted markets only account for approximately 0.3 though. That number still is dissapointing, especially coming off what is called the best PPV of this year.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted August 30, 2002 But it also came off a bad raw. Again, ratings shouldn't matter. Vince shouldn't care about them right now. Re-building process - sacrifice today to make for a better tomorrow. When he gets worried about ratings we get things like the NWO. Long Term thinking and booking is a GOOD THING. Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Remember though, the MTV VMA's were on at the same time, so Smackdown being pre-empted and against that ratings monster didn't have much of a chance. I'm pleasantly surprised.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted August 30, 2002 This sounds bad, but I forgot all about watching SD last night and I went out with friends. Oh well.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted August 30, 2002 Honestly, I don't care or buy into ratings. If the show was good in your own view, thats all that matters. Atleast until they go bank rupt ..
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted August 30, 2002 It shouldn't be preempted again anymore for a while, so that might be a good thing.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted August 30, 2002 I think people need to realize that ratings aren't going to improve very much on a week to week basis, and that a turn-around could take a very, very long time to happen. Remember, in 1997 the WWF was putting out a far superior product to WCW and was still being dominated in ratings. Did it really matter? Resoundingly, not really, because back then the WWF was building to a solid future and WCW was booking month to month, if not week to week. A solid foundation, and a conistent product. That's what matters right now. Ratings, by themselves, do NOTHING to earn the WWF money, remember that. Right now the WWE is receiving harsh punishment for all of their mistakes, but logical, long-term booking can pull them out of it. It's just going to take a lot of faith from the top brass who still think ratings are the only thing that matters.
