Console Modems

Recommended Posts

Guest Doomsault

Okay, I'm eagerly awaiting the release of Phantasy Star Online for the GameCube but am worried that my computer is too slow to support online play for it. My question is, does it matter that my computer is slow or will the GameCube just take place of my modem?

Um. I dont get your question. Your computer doesn't play a factor at all. Basically online console play works like this:

1) You buy the internet adapter for your console. You either get a full fledged modem if you wanna dial up (god knows why..??) or the adapter for broadband connections.

2) You plug one ond of the internet adapter into the console.

3) You plug the other end of the modem into the phone line or if you have broadband adapter, the other end plugs into your cable modem/DSL Modem.

4) You turn on your console and connect to the internet via the console's modem/adapter.

I'm pretty sure this is how it works, since I remember messing around with a dreamcast, although it had the modem built in. The modem/adapter will probably come with some sort of software that will assist in dialing. Whether it will include a browser like the dreamcast did for actuall browsing, I dunno..
