Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted September 2, 2002 It has to happen. the character writes itself. The Rock shunned by the fans because he left for Hollywood. He doesn't care what they think, he gets his and everyone is jealous. $1000 shirts and chops come back I'll freak. Question is will it do anything for the company? I don't know if Rock could draw better as a heel, and given the staleness of his in the past year or so I wonder if he even still has it to entertain me ven as a heel. HHH going back to heeldom did nothing, will the Rock suffer the same fate? Thoughts, ideas, shoot!
Guest Bricks Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I think heel Rock would draw big... if there's a great face to play off of. '99 they were successful because they had Austin as that face. These days, I'm not too sure.
Guest Brian Report post Posted September 2, 2002 By the time the Rock comes back the fans will have forgotten.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Damn right it would be HUGE for the company. Many could play off of a heel Rock and could do wonders for WWE, however... ...it sucks like a mother f*cker that Rocky isn't around, or going to be around for months, to take advantage of this situation. Yes folks, yet another reason I despise Rocky going off to Hollywood.
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted September 2, 2002 True, who the hell would he play off of? Hopefully not Taker. RVD, Angle or Kane would suffice for me. I really think He'll be a heel, but you could be right, (hell a lot of times you are, Brian)
Guest Downhome Report post Posted September 2, 2002 By the time the Rock comes back the fans will have forgotten. Exactly, this is the thing. By the time he comes back, the fans will be in "let's all face pop Rocky's return" mode. It will all be in vain, and that sucks. It doesn't really matter however, because by the time he comes back (which will more than likely be for just a few weeks again), he'll be leaving soon after once again. I still say it's pointless, I'd rather have no Rocky than part-time Rocky.
Guest Brian Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Rock will make whoever he's facing look good so it's a matter of picking a face. I miss Austin.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Rock will make whoever he's facing look good so it's a matter of picking a face. I miss Austin. I crave heel-Rocky Vs. face-Jericho, that could be huge, just like a heel-Rocky Vs. face-Angle could be huge, hell, there are MANY which "could" be huge, but I doubt we'll see it for quite some time. You aren't the only one who misses Austin, he would be a HUGE help right now, in many ways.
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Much like the match with HHH got Austin going in high gear after his injury (NWO2001) I think if Austin were to come back, Austin/HHH one more time would be real big and might do the same for HHH as far as getting him back into the groove. They like working with eachother. HHH is going to be the big heel right now, so I don't really see Rock competing with him for that spot, so who knows. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I don't miss Austin at all- He was just awful the last couple weeks.
Guest Brian Report post Posted September 2, 2002 When he was unmotivated, of course. Anyways, tweener Rock and tweener Jericho was awesome.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I don't miss Austin at all- He was just awful the last couple weeks. I know it's no excuse, but if you went from being the #1 guy in all of the industry to being demoted to mid-card status working in a very tired and outdated feud with Scott Hall & the nWo, you would be just awful as well. Guest Brian Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Downhome, just leave it be. Let the talk of it die. Please.
Guest BoboBrazil Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Rock will never turn heel again as long as he is making movies. WWE gets a cut of profits from each movie he does and Rock turning heel would mean that less wrestling fans would go see it.

Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I think he means that the Austin subject is as battered as.... I'm not even going to use that joke...... Fact is nothing new has happened sans him getting a divorce so speaking on his departure and that whole ordeal should be over. At least until serious buzz begins to come around that he will return. The story should be left alone because I and everyone else's feelings have been stated. Anyone who posts here probably knows everything there is to know and has their own opinions in their mind that they have stated numerous times and don't plan on changing. Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted September 2, 2002 and moving right along... Rock can never be a heel again. That's because every time Rock decides to come back, Vince will think "*sniff sniff* is that? *sniff* do I smell buyrate?" and Rock will return on a mega hyped Raw to beat up the heel of the moment, and JR will go "The Rock has come back to the WWF by gawd!", and he will be running full speed for 2 months and then job and then leave again. Downhome's right, I don't know if Rock can help anything by showing up 6 weeks at a time.
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Yeah but when the fans start to catch on, the selling out will become apparent. they are beginning to do that now, and half thefans in attendance usually have some idea as of what's going on. Someone can get the crowd riled up (Summerslam) and there you go. I think Hogan would have stayed heel a lot longer had the fans booed the shit out of him at WM. You'd be a fool to think the fans aren't getting pissed at his coming and going.
Guest AllState Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I think the easiest way to turn Rock heel would be to give him an asshole actor gimmick. Like getting on a mocrophone and saying "cut, retake" when he fucks up a move. Or maybe getting his ass handed to him and saying if anyone wants him he'll be in his trailer. A good start for a feud could be him saying he's gonna take the belt to Hollywood. Then you could have someone like Brock interrupt and offer to send him to Hollywood in pieces, INSTA-FEUD! Guest Downhome Report post Posted September 2, 2002 It doesn't matter if they turn him heel or not. If he is gone for an extended time, when he returns, he will be an instant face. There is no way around that. Besides, WWE would prefer him being a face to help promote the movies, etc... I see no positive that can come from his coming up every so offten, but that's just me. Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I have the perfect provocation for a Rock heel turn. Keep Rock out of the ring until his movie comes out, then, if it bombs big time, have the Rock come out and turn on the fans, claiming that they are (such and such) for not seeing his movie. Rock can then turn on some face to provoke a feud. What about making the face a relatively new guy also? Like Shelton Benjamin or some new guy, just to establish a new babyface. The Rock as a heel should be able to cause alot more interest in the WWE.
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Oh man for him to pick on a newer guy that they want to push, it would catapult him. I'd love to see the rock come back and take a liking to Maven because he is JUST like the guy back in the day and just totally kick the shit outta him ala Taker at RR 02. " You want to use the Rock's eyebrows? You're eyebrows could never touch the Rock's".
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2002 would Maven/Rock lead to an 'eyebrows v. eyebrows' match? Rock also would need a posse, like the Nation, just to keep him as a heel. Rock's new posse: Rock, Rosie, Jamal and D'Lo, or something another new face that Rock can mess with: Rhyno
Guest Dames Edna Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Everyone is trying to knock the Rock down. From the latest observer it says Rock is too image conscious and won't admit he was bothered by the booing. I find it unreal that since the Rock is a stand-up personable guy in a backstabbing business - that he still gets dissed. The Rock will turn heel if asked - and do it wonderfully. He has unmeasurable charisma. There is a reason why he has conquered America so gracefully.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted September 2, 2002 i don't know if it would draw in new fans, but a heel hollywood rock who acts like he's above all the wrestling stuff & just comes on the shows every once in a while to SHOW how much better he is...that would get the fans seriously into it. other guys have hit on all the ideas you could do with a movie star prima donna gimmick (a trailer, etc), & someone as inventive as rocky would easily make something entertaining out of it all. let him show up erratically for a few weeks, taking up space on the show & claiming his superiority, maybe even refuse to actually wrestle. then get someone to start chasing him down to shut him up. question is, who? if benoit were a face, this would be the PERFECT role for him. but as it were, the role would have to fall upon...maybe rvd? he wouldn't have to say much, just come down & say "dude...shut up!" rock gets pissed that anyone would tell him to shut up, goes off on a rant, rvd starts kicking his ass. instant feud. properly utilizes the rock, & makes a main eventer out of rob van dam. maybe even edge. Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted September 2, 2002 A good way to create a draw is for Rock to get into it with a certain mega over face and then tool around with him, but knowing he'll be leaving soon. the face never can quite get his hands on the Great One, because he won't fight. Rock goes to leave for a while again, and he gets contractually binded to face this guy at the PPV when he returns. you talk about milking, baby. Everyone wants a shot at the hot shot so they keep trying to take his shot at the rock away, which would give that face something to do until that PPV match. He keeps the shot and keeps winning, building him up strong for his HUGE meeting with the pompus Rock at a PPV. I think the buyrate would be enormous. Guest gthureson Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Dan's idea above would likely work best, because all it requires from Rocky is cut a few promos, which can be done from wherever he is, to keep his end of the angle going. Maybe just show up on Raw or Smackdown if it happens to be close to where he is at the time. He wouldn't have to wrestle, in fact, the point of it is he wouldn't be. Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Here is the perfect way to turn him heel, and draw good money. Have a big babyface in the ring getting the living hell kicked out of him by two or three heels. The Rock's music hits and the fans pop like crazy, JR has 10 heart attacks calling the action, Rock gets to the ring, the heels leave and he helps up the babyface...only to drop him with a Rock Bottom. Rock gets on the mic and runs down WWE and the fans in general because he's a movie star and is above everyone else. The Rock is instantly #1 heel.

Guest bravesfan Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Even better, make him leave WITH THE WORLD TITLE. (For a short time) Then have the face win the Royal Rumble so he HAS to face him at WrestleMania. SMELL THE BUYRATE! And take away No Way Out from the PPV line-up, so Wrestlemanias can be properly built up like in the past. As for Rocky's situation, I believe it'll have to be the perfect situation when he turns heel. A mega-face or strong up-and-comer might not be enough, but a returning Austin (just maybe) or face Angle could do the trick. Character-wise, he has had several opportunities to do it (WM 17, WM18), but they were shot down quickly.
