Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted September 2, 2002 how about my witty award names. LVP-Juan Gonzalez, Texas Anthony Young-Chan Ho Park, Texas Gary Scott Award-Hank Blalok, Texas Hal McRae-Jerry Narron, Texas Biggest Dropoff-Chan Ho Park, Texas Worst Executive-John Hart, Texas LVP-Mo Vaughn, New York Anthony Young-Mike Hampton, Colorado Gary Scott Award-Sean Burroughs, San Diego Hal McRae-Bobby Valentine, New York Biggest Dropoff-Aramis Ramirez, Pittsburgh Worst Executive-Steve Phillips, New York In case your wondering. Anthony Young had one of the worst winning% of all time and lost something like 20+in a row. Gary Scott was this can't miss Cubs 3B who missed. I just figured Hal McRae's got a really bad winning%. Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Speaking of useless pieces of crap, I just had a thought. If the Rangers, D. Rays, Tigers, Royals and Indians all were in the same division, which team would *shudder* rise to the top?
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted September 2, 2002 I think it'd be a fight between the Rangers and the Royals...but it certainly wouldn't be pretty. Personally, my vote for LVP is a cinch: Shawn Estes.
Guest D'Lo White Report post Posted September 2, 2002 You could pick almost any Met as LVP. I'm going with Jeremy Burnitz.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted September 2, 2002 LVP's gotta be Greg Vaughn. And Verne, if Hal McRae's so bad as to warrent having the award named for him, then why doesn't he actually win the award?
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Personally, my vote for LVP is a cinch: Shawn Estes. Why would he be picked? He hasn't pitched bad at all, he got no run support with the Mets. I am very glad he has come to the Reds, hopefully Bowden signs him during the offseason.
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Skill or not, his admitted inability to hit Clemens makes him the laughingstock of the league, IMO.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted September 3, 2002 He did the right thing in throwing behind him. Hell, he wasn't even on the Mets when all this crap happened, then he got thrown right in between it all. People like you make me sick with that crap. Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted September 3, 2002 I'm a Yankee fan, and in that situation even I'd try to drill Roger inbetween his eyes. Estes has no excuse.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Thats all childish crap, thats not what baseball is about. Its pathetic, and very stupid .. actually, a better word would be disgrace. If you wanna start little stupid baby fights, do it after the game, where you aren't protected by umpires and BS. I hate that part of the game.
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Hey, I'm not going to argue the whole hit-by-pitch/retaliation dynamic with you. It really comes down to this: Clemens drilled a Met, and Estes was in a position where he needed to protect his teammates. Shawn Estes wanted to hit Clemens. And he COULDN'T. With everybody from Bert Blyleven to Saddam Hussein ready for Clemens to get plunked...Estes throws a little gimper behind Clemens, the equivalent of saying "well, I'm rubber and you're glue" to a guy that may never get retaliation ever again. I just find that sad. And pointing out that the Mets never gave him any run support for his 4-11 record doesn't really hold water with me, when kids like Paul Byrd are Cy Young candidates with deadweight teams like the Royals. Shawn Estes isn't great. He isn't even good. He's a worthless pitcher. And he totally deserved to be ostracized for the Clemens debacle. And because he made a fool of himself and his team (something that the Mets don't need any help with), as well as pitching quite horribly all season, he gets the LVP award from me. The only other person I'd consider would be Alex Rodriguez...NOT because he's having a bad year, but because his salary of $25 million - which could have been used to get three or maybe four players with his stats - makes him the least bang for your buck. But Shawn Estes fits the role much better in my eyes.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted September 3, 2002 LVP's gotta be Greg Vaughn. And Verne, if Hal McRae's so bad as to warrent having the award named for him, then why doesn't he actually win the award? Because the Devil Rays are a bad team that actually tries. Unlike the Rangers who have the talent but are heartless.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Valentine said himself that this was a non-issue and that Tino Martinez was hit the next inning after Clemens hit Piazza.

Juan Gonzalez $12 million Carl Everett $8 Million Rusty Greer $6.8 Million Chan Ho Park $11 Million That's a whopping $37 million on un-productive players. Imagine if they spent THAT money on some better players.
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted September 3, 2002 True, true - $11 Million for the Chan Ho Show is quite a hefty price tag. But I can't give the LVP to Ranger's ownership, no matter how much they deserve the accolade. So I guess, under that idea, A-Rod is out, ridiculous salary or no. Guest alkeiper Report post Posted September 3, 2002 At least their farm system is promising. Hank Blalock, Mark Texiera, Travis Hafner etc. Detroit which management just this year, so giving it there would be unfair. Cleveland's restocked their farm system as well. The White Sox are an attractive choice.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Estes' throw to Clemens had me laughing my ass off for the whole game. But Piazza and Estes did homer off him so its cool with me
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted September 3, 2002 LVP-Travis Lee Not just because he sucks so bad but because Jeremy Giambi was not given his spot (manager's fault but relates to him so screw you Lee) Travis Lee 469 AB 47 runs 10 HR 56 RBI .260 average .327 OBP From your god damn first baseman. Jeremy Giambi (AL and NL total) 297 AB 56 runs 19 HR 42 RBI .269 average .420 OBP He is a potential 40-homer guy who would get on base at least 50 times more than Lee if given a whole year. But Lee is a good defensive 1B. Who cares? How often does that come into play at 1B maybe once every two weeks he saves a baserunner. That makes up for about 15-18 of the times on base that Giambi is better. On the other subject Estes should have hit Clemens. I don't care if it was a Tim Wakefield fastball that he threw at Clemens. Either throw at him or don't you shouldn't throw behind him like Estes because you lose the respect of everyone. If you hit him some won't like it some will, if you don't the same thing will happen, but throwing near him without hitting him just makes everyone laugh at you. You could see the look on Clemens face as he could not even believe he wasn't hit.
Guest undisputedjericho Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Gotta give the AL Anthony Young to TB Ace Tanyon Sturtze, he's like 2-14.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Sturtze had roughly the same ERA as Mussina a fwe weeks ago, I don;t know what it is now. He has gotten no run support. I;'m not saying that he is as good as Mussina but the numbers are there this year. LVP: Tony Clark. He got two months to break out of his slump and couldn't. 3 HRs for a 6'7" 1B is pathetic. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted September 3, 2002 The whole Clemens/Mets situation was completley overblown by the media (big shocker). Valentine said himself that they hit Martinez the next inning after Clemens hit Piazza. In case you didn't notice the great John Hart won worst executive.
