No more TNBC?!?

Recommended Posts

Guest Zack Malibu

I just went to NBC.com to check out the fall schedule, and naturally I went to check out the TNBC section, only to find that they still have City Guys, All About Us and Just Deal advertised. Knowing that City Guys ended last season, I kept searching around, and found something that said "Discovery Kids On NBC". I click on it,and now it looks like the TNBC shows that have existed since the original run of Saved By The Bell are being replaced by NATURE SHOWS!?!?!?! WTF is up with that? Granted, the teen shows have dwindled since SBTB (I like City Guys, but not many do, and the other shows like One World didn't do it for me. Don't even get me started on this SK8 crap that was on this season.) but to replace it with Learning Channel style crap? Big mistake, IMO, because kids are gonna be watching anything BUT educational shows on a Saturday.

Alas, I mourn TNBC...I knew ye well, and I long for your return.

This is truly a sad day. Now where am I going to turn to get my weekly dose of teen angst?

I mean, I've got tapes of SBTB, California Dreams and City Guys that'll last me, but I was hoping for new shows, dammit.

Thank God for syndication.

ABC is the only channel that still runs cartoons on Sat. morning, of the major networks (WB might but I dont know..) And the sad fact about that is that they are all Disney crap..

ABC, FOX and WB air Sat. morning cartoons. They suck. Thank god there's no more TNBC.

I didn't even know TNBC was still on Saturday mornings. I HATE it when you don't find out about something cool until you can't see it anymore, this is like when I first discovered wrestlecrap.com two days before its closing..

Well, it wasn't the old "light-hearted" TNBC, save for City Guys. Just Deal was some show about the personal trials of a guy and a girl in high school, and the token "mentor" character was a guidance counselor. SK8 just looked like a crappy way to cash in on the extreme sports craze, and that show All About Us was about all girls, so I stayed away from that one.

I hadn't even seen most of the early episodes of City Guys, since I used to work on Sat. mornings. At least now I get to catch up with the syndicated reruns. But now that I'm home on Sat. mornings, I guess MST3K and Spider-Man and Hulk on the Family Channel will have to do.

Just curious, but did City Guys go it's entire run with the exact same cast? That would be a first for a Peter Engel show, I think (One World doesn't count, since it only lasted 1-2 seasons)

Save for the pilot episode, City Guys had the exact same cast from day one. In the pilot, they had a different model/actress girl (her name was Tina, I believe), but she only appeared in that episode and was replaced by Cassidy. El-Train started as a recurring character, but got "over" enough with the audience that he was added to the regular cast in the second season (similar to Urkel on Family Matters).

Funny note:On the syndicated reruns of City Guys, the opening theme on every episode is the one from the first season. That means that Steven Daniel (El-Train) isn't credited on any of the syndicated shows, save for the first season when he was a guest star.

It's just an example of keeping El-Train down.

I just hope that these guys go on to bigger and better things, instead of whatever limbo most TNBC and Saban (Power Rangers et al) actors go to...

I agree. I thought El-Train was pretty funny given the limitations of working a teen sitcom. I wouldn't be shocked to see him as a regular on another series anytime soon.

Have no fear, you Miss Knoble marks, I'm sure she'll find work on some show soon, most likely one with another character named 'Jamal'.

She's gonna be on Raw for 3 minutes?

Ha, no. I was referring to the fact that two previous shows that I am familiar with that she was on (Ghostwriter and City Guys) had a black teenager named 'Jamal' as part of the cast.

Sorry if this is kinda awkward, since this is my first post and all... To tell you all what has been happening for the last 8 months with TNBC and FOX...

After 9/11, things started to tank over at Teen/Toon land. NBC wants shows for kids, because the only thing they could promote on TNBC is Friends (Which I dislike but respect) and some people are mad at the Pres of NBC because Friends is showing Unmarried Couples having a baby (STILL To this day these fuckers cant shut the fuck up) and is saying that Marrage dont count to Kids. So Discovery Kids comes long and Since TNBC is not doing well in the ratings, NBC gives Discovery the 3 hour block for 3.5 million for 6 years. I am not sure if they will air Next Week or Oct 6.

Over at Fox, Disney Buys out Fox Fam Worldwide, which was owned by Saban and News Corp. It becomes ABC Family as you know. The Block that Fox owned is now up for grabs. Little that anybody knows, 4Kids Enteraiment, the ones the dubbed Pokemon buys the block of 100 Million Dollars for 4 years with the chance to go to 6 years if they have a huge hit. Fox Kids ended today, and Fox Box starts on the 14 with a show some may know, Ultimate Muscle: The Kinnikuman Legacy. Note that both that show and Mucha Lucha will air both at 10:30 on the 14th. The Power Rangers and Digimon goes to ABC Kids and UPN, Medabots and Galidor to ABC Fam, and The Ripping Friends, to CN.

And now you know.

I'm just a little ticked because now there's no new "teen shows" coming in. City Guys was the last great one, even surpassing the latter days of Saved By The Bell:The New Class, but now all that's left is syndication.

Sat. mornings use to have variety. Now it's MST3K at 9, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends at 11, and Incredible Hulk at 11:30.

I want more teen shows, dammit!!!

I pretty sure one of the reasons NBC sold the block to Discovery is because it fills the 3 hr govt. required educational programing mandate.

Hey Zack Malibu, what happened on the last episode of SBTB: The New Class?
