No ramps..

Recommended Posts

Guest JMTapes

Anyone else pick up on the fact that whenever there is no ramp on Raw/Smackdown, there is some BS segment with a milktruck, beer truck, etc? It's almost too obvious. If they keep doing it, even the marks will notice. -Jim

I say have an elevated ramp that leads directly to the ring, a la ECW PPVs in 1998 and WCW PPVs. I liked those ramps.

Yes, them ramps led to many of Sabu spots or Spike Dudley bumps.

They added another dimension to the match, IMO. Tajiri/Super Crazy from Guilty As Charged 99 had a few spots onto the ramp, and that was as far outside as they went.

A while back Smackdown had no ramp and no trucks were used. Although most of the time when there's no ramp, there's a truck coming in.

When the WWF splits off the feds, I would like for them to use a full elevated ramp. Vince probably won't do it because WCW & ECW already have.

It depends on how many tickets they can sell and what sized arena they're in. They used to run Key Arena in Seattle (around 1997) for RAW and there isn't enough room for a ramp. I personally would like to see a set-up with an elevated ramp to the ring and the lighting focused on the ring with the crowd sorta darkened out.

In the Sting vs. Cactus match from Beach Blast '92 there are some good spots using the elevated ramp.  Sting (outside the ring, standing on the ramp) whipped Foley in to the ropes and backdropped him on the ramp.  Cactus took so many bumps on and off that ramp, what made them good was the noise that the wooden ramp made and everyone could see them live, without having to look at a big screen (did early 90s WCW even have big screens?).

Not to flame you, cause I never been to Key Arena, but I dont think that would matter.  If I'm not mistaken, thats where the Sonics used to (or still do) play.  But the whole set of RAW, ring included, isnt even the size of a basketball court.  The only arena besides FleetCenter I have been in is Dunkin Donuts center, where RAW is tomorrow.....and if that dump can hold RAW then any other place can.

Again I might be wrong, and normally I wouldnt care, but I thought that whole Key Arena thing was odd and a little interesting.

I always hated those ramps. they looked ugly and dangerous. Of course, that's just my opinion.

I agree with Brian, and darkening the crowd would be a great way to control the signs already. Every time I go to a live event, I can't see because freakin' idiots won't put down their signs. I wonder just how many people go to wrestling shows for the sole purpose of getting on TV. Anyway, my opinion is that if they refuse to do a sign policy then darken the arena where the fans have to focus on the ring.

I'm kind of bored with the ramp they have now. Not only does it suck having to watch wrestlers run down half-speed for an attack just so they don't fall down the thing. But there's hardly any fan interaction because of how high up it is. Maybe an elevated ramp like WCW and ECW used but about half as high with steps at the end. Just to shake things up a little bit.

It doesn't have a lot of room on the floor. It seats 13,000, but there's not enough space on the floor.

Darkening the crowd hurts the atmosphere of the show.  If you can see throngs of people (espciall with a monster show like WM3 or WM17) it makes the product more appealing.

They darken the crowd at Dome Shows and Pride and it doesn't hurt the product. It makes the in-ring the focus.

In ECW once when they had an elevated ramp right to the ring, Taz DDTed Bam Bam off the top right through the ramp! Serious, they got driven through it, and it was destoried.. very very cool :D

Guest Who?

They can't have an elevated ramp because The Undertaker wouldn't be able to ride his motorcycle around the ring if there was one. Yup, blame the 'Taker.
