Well it looks great according to the * ratings.

 

How accurate those ratings are is debatable

 

Oh, and Muto/Fujinami is bad. Wonder why there is no rating on that one.

Umm...Mutoh/Tenryu is pretty ok, and the rest isn't really good at all. The Williams match is suprisingly decent, but a great match for Williams is still a decent match for everyone else, and the Fujinami match is indeed horrendous. The rest is kinda just there, except for the Hase match, which is really long and pretty borring.

I enjoyed Muto/Hase. I don't think ***3/4 is that far off. Muto/Nagata is really enjoyable too, IMO

I would have dug Motoh/Hase if they had, you know, SOLD any of the work they were doing for most of the match. I'm always up for matwork, if it has a point, and when I see two guys working each other's legs for what seems like three days and then just no-sell all of it like nothing's happened, I tend to feel like I've been jipped. Great work, but not a very good match, because they didn't make the work they did count for anything.

 

Mutoh/Nagata was enjoyable, but it seemed pretty by-the-numbers compaired to what I've seen from both guys. Plus, Motoh's goofy selling at the end was on the annoying side. Still, pretty good.

I liked the tape well enough, even though a few matches (Fujinami, Hase) weren't great, and a few (Tenyru, Williams) are clipped somewhat.

There are better Mutoh matches out there, namely the G1 '91 finals but also a really nice match with Hashimoto as part of the G1 '96 tourni. Just an awesome match.

Man, that Hase match is just the drizzling crap on a stick. Anyone who saw any psychology in that mess could pretty much find the works of Shakespere in a issue of Hustler. No selling, all repetition. It was a spot fest without spots... I deam it restfest.

Tim, he was referring to Mutoh/Hase from 2001, which I have to agree, was really friggin borring.

 

Mutoh/Hashimoto was, more than likely, the last great match the guy had.

I'm guessing the Mutoh/Hash match from "1996" must be the 95 as well, as 96 was the year it was split into Power vs. Technique and Hash had the bum leg, meaning Mutoh & Hash never met.

 

Mutoh/Hase did indeed suck, though. As does the tape that started this thread.

The Mutoh/Hash match I got on a comp, which was supposed to be '96 NJ stuff, but oh well, not the first time that guy has screwed up dates. Meh.

The love for the Mutoh/Hase match is pure twilight zone material if you ask me. It's a pretty baffling match to begin with, what with Hase ending up being Mr. X and proceeding to go 40 PLUS with Mutoh at Budokan just for the hell of it. And it ends up being just about the most aimless performance of either man's career. And that's saying a lot for Mutoh.

 

But I really can't figure out what people are watching when they praise this match like they do. Meltzer's "70's style" comparison was way out in left field. Unless Kanemoto and Takaiwa circa '97 we're reincarnated as Jack Brisco and Dory Funk Jr. in some alternate universe where time and space has no meaning. Not to mention selling.

Hehe, there is no way that Mutoh/Kawada is a ****+ match, IMO. More like ***, that said, I did enjoy the match particularly Mutoh's performance for some reason. I guess I found it comical.

The only thing I got out of that AJ vs. NJ 2001 tape, was that Satoshi Kojima MOTHERFUCKING OWNS. 'Bout it.

I only have one Kojima singles match, and that was against Sasaki at the 1/4/01 Dome, and he was awesome - worked his ass off. He's the kind of wrestler I like to watch, not lazy ass bums.

As can be seen by my sig, I love Kojima (and Tenzan), and he suposedly really, really kicked ass against Tenryu at the 7/17/02 PPV. Meltzer-who has been a bit odd with his ratings lately, rated that match at ****3/4, and it is supposed to be THE match this year. I haven't seen it yet though

I'm interested in seeing the 12/01 tag with Kojima/Tenzan vs. Barton/Steele, which I heard was a great match (hard to believe though).

Well, I'm a firm believer that TenKoji could have been one of the best tag teams ever (if they aren't already)

 

Odd that you mentioned the Barton/Steele match, as I am just looking at a review of it now (the review is here if interested)
