Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted September 8, 2002 Miami-Florida was a huge flop. Why is Willingham getting all this credit. Notre Dame had a good defense last year. Plus Willingham has an offensive background, so the Defensive Cordinator deserves more the credit for the defense playing well.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted September 8, 2002 Where'd you get that Bubbles icon?! WHERE?! Go down to quick reply and look at the smilies drop down menu. Back on topic: Florida played pretty bad in what little of the game I saw(I was watching OU/Bama).
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted September 8, 2002 UCLA 30, #20 Colorado State 19 WHOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! UCLA trailed going into the half but just kept wearing CSU down...looks like we have ourselves a strong running game with Akil Harris (scored go-ahead touchdown), Manuel White (two touchdowns), Wendell Mathis and Tyler Ebell. UCLA was down 13-7 then scored 2 touchdowns. CSU then scored with just over two minutes left, but their QB fumbled on the conversion and Ben Emanuel took it in for 2. Then UCLA was going to run down the clock but Harris burst outside for 30 yards and White scored once more to make it 30-19. Over 200 rushing yards on the ground...Paus played all right, he got better as the game went on, but it was true freshman Drew Olson who led the deciding drive, mostly with runs but also completing a key pass to Tab Perry inside the 5 to set up the touchdown. OK, Ecstatic UCLA Mark mode off. Miami-Florida was billed as the game of two great Heisman QB's but it was Willis McGahee who shined the most with over 200 yards running. Another back, Jason Geathers, caught two TD passes. Miami's D-line was in Grossman's face all day, and those inexperienced defensive backs played better than expected. With Oklahoma barely pulling out a win over an unranked Alabama team and losing their QB for the year, this should cement Miami as the #1 team in everyone's minds for now. Washington had no business being down 10-0 to San Jose State entering the third quarter, but the Huskies had a bunch of come from behind wins last year and did it again by scoring 34 points to win. Fresno State almost pulled off another upset against Oregon, but Jason Fife did his best Joey Harrington impersonation on the final drive, with Onterrio Smith putting it in for the win. Willingham gets all the credit because he's the coach. I agree though, their defensive coordinator and special teams coach deserve some more credit. Scary that ND can hang 21 points on someone from defense and special teams alone. If the offense ever found a way to get halfway decent they could be a good team. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted September 8, 2002 That Canes' defensive line is SICK.
Guest Blackston Report post Posted September 8, 2002 The only weak point on the Hurricanes is their cornerbacks, but their defensive line is so good, that no team will get a chance to exploit their corners. Miami just went into the Swamp yesterday, and embarassed the Gator faithful... Miami went TO GAINESVILLE and beat the Gators by 25! My mind is not even comprehending how good this Hurricane team is...
Guest Strike Force! Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Mattdotcom & Family live in Alabama, so take this with a grain of salt. We're partial to the Tide. That fumble in the Alabama/Oklahoma game looked like bullshit to us, but then again, my dad is the Jim Ross of the Crimson Tide. And what the hell is that supid-ass wagon? I just want to beat the spread. Good game so far, but the refs are screwing us over every game. We deserve most penalties we get, but Oklahoma has deserved three that went uncalled. Little things like holding, but still. One of your guys was holding Andre Woolfolk on the fake FG for a TD. Bad calls go both ways, buddy. Can't blame the refs. Guest Strike Force! Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Good teams find a way to win, and that's why we beat the Tide. We should have been running that jumbo backfield package the entire game.

Actually, OU got lucky that Watts fumbled the ball on that last drive. If he hadn't, we may have gotten in FG range and tied the game.

Maybe if Bama would have played a full four quarters, and not gotten down 23-3 at halftime, then we wouldn't be having this discussion. It really is funny people saying we're lucky, especially after our starting QB goes down to a freak injury.

If they hadn't slacked off in the second half, maybe they wouldn't have needed a fluke fumble to finally put it away.

It actually does NOT cut the same way because of one slight difference: We have scoreboard.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Yeah, but you probably wouldn't have had scoreboard if Watts hadn't fucked up, so my point still stands. OU was lucky.

Well, if it helps you feel better, it wasn't all Watts' fault. He could have recovered the fumble, but Tommie Harris swatted the ball away, and Bassey picked it up. You're also assuming Zifle would have kicked the tying field goal, which, based on what I saw of him, was real iffy.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Heh, it doesn't make me feel any better, but I'm just happy we kicked it up several notches in the second half after that terrible first. I'm not content with losing when we had a chance, but I'm realy proud of how we came back and turned it into one hell of a game. Also, I won't take anything away from OU because they stepped up when it counted in the end, regardless of what I think of the fumble.
Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted September 10, 2002 "One of your guys was holding Andre Woolfolk on the fake FG for a TD. Bad calls go both ways, buddy. Can't blame the refs." Nope. Sorry, I only notice the uncalled penalties my dad yells about. Plus, the fake FG was so sweet, I couldn't notice anything else. Oh, like APO said, I'm not taking anything away from Oklahoma. I don't really watch many of their games, but that is a damned impressive team they've got there. Fastest in the NCAA, I'd say. So lets just and shit, man, and say we were able to watch one helluva football game. Funny Note: Coach Fran has his own little local show in Alabama and revealed the name of the onside kick. "The Gomer Pyle".
