Guest AntiThesis Report post Posted September 4, 2002 If you wanna cry, keep reading. There is so much bad news in this post that I can barely cut and paste it. Freddy vs Jason begins shooting in Vancouver on September 9, but it appears that longtime Jason actor Kane Hodder will NOT be reprising his role in the eagerly awaited grudge match. Both New Line and a distraught Hodder himself tell Fango Magazine that the production has been auditioning other performers all week to take over the role, including Halloween: Resurrection's Michael Myers, Brad Loree. So why is the studio passing on Hodder, who has kept the character alive for the past 14 years and has emerged as a hero to Jason fans? Both the actor and an anonymous New Line executive tell Fango that the production has “rethought” the character to make Jason both more sympathetic and a closer physical match to opponent Freddy (Robert Englund, who has signed on). I suppose they want a 100 pound Jason? To get an idea of what the filmmakers have in mind, the new Jason casting breakdown calls for an actor “who can emote pain and anguish over the loss of a loved one… [we’re looking for] someone with poetic eyes.” The idea is to make Jason a “sad, pathetic, Phantom of the Opera-type character,” says a New Line source. Though Hodder has met with director Ronny Yu, he admits that the production wants a “different body type” for the film. New Line, which expects to decide on its Jason star by this weekend, insists that Hodder is still being considered for his dream gig. In other casting, R&B singer Kelly Roland of Destiny’s Child is expected to take the film's female lead. I suppose that's one of those other non-hot girls in the group. Was Beyonce busy or something? I was looking forword to this movie too. I'm officially boycotting all movies with "VS" in the middle.
Guest Ozymandias Report post Posted September 4, 2002 Isn't Paul "Soldier, Resident Evil, Moral Kombat" Anderson directing this mess too?
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted September 4, 2002 Ok yah I knew about this. New Line Cinema should have gone with the ORIGINAL script written way back when, but this movie is starting to sound worse then ANOTHER halloween sequel.....if that is possible, I am so hoping that House of 1000 corpses(if it ever comes out) will ressurect the HORROR genre, and KILL the teeny bopper slasher genre. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 4, 2002 I am so hoping that House of 1000 corpses(if it ever comes out) will ressurect the HORROR genre, and KILL the teeny bopper slasher genre. The teen slasher genre will never die and i have no problem with that. The teen slasher genre has produced some good and some good n' cheesy movies in the past. I'd like to see the teen slasher movies that were spawned by Scream die off, but the complete teen slasher genre shouldn't die.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted September 4, 2002 Isn't Paul "Soldier, Resident Evil, Moral Kombat" Anderson directing this mess too? No, he's doing Aliens vs Predator. Ronny Yu is doing this. He did Bride of Chucky, Formula 51, Bride with White Hair. Stuff like that.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted September 4, 2002 Didn't we discuss this pretty thoroughly in another thread a couple of weeks ago?
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted September 4, 2002 Nope. Anyway this film was teased all the way back in Jason Goes To Hell and I really doubt anyone is interested anymore. The Halloween series is the only marketable horror franchise left IMO, so having these two hasbeens go at it is a waste of film. they could have at least wrote michaels myers into the film and made the script the extreme triple threat match of all time. I could be mistaken, but didn't Jason X do better business then Halloween: Resurrection. Also didn't Jason X stay in theaters longer then Halloween: Ressurection did. Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted September 5, 2002 We already went through this in another Jason vs. Freddy thread a month ago. Anyway, it's a waste of time to complain about a movie that hasn't even been made yet.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted September 5, 2002 That brings up a good point I've been wondering: why are so many people praising House of 1000 Corpses? Saying things like it "will ressurect the HORROR genre", when nobody here has even seen it. Why the slobberjob?

Saying things like it "will ressurect the HORROR genre", when nobody here has even seen it. Why the slobberjob? I believe it stems from the fact that Rob Zombie is a big time old school horror fan and there's reason to expect that he will give us the type of horror movie that we have been missing for along time. He isn't going to make a "hey look aren't we funny and clever" horror movie that Scream gave birth to. I guess all the praise that the movie gets comes from horror fans who want some old school and Zombie seems to be the only one with the desire to do it. Well that's MY reasoning at least. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted September 6, 2002 I'm no big horror fan but why make abandon the Jason character that they've spent the last 14 years building up? I don't give a shit about the actor because he doesn't really do any acting. Walking around and stabbing people is pretty easy and anybody big enough to fit the costume could do it. Freddy shouldn;t even be able to effect Jason. Does a dead guy sleep and dream?
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted September 6, 2002 Well, you think that way because like you said, you're no big horror fan. I am. A big Jason fan as well. And yes I can tell a BIG difference between Kane Hodder playing Jason and the earlier actors playing the role. And people WILL tell a difference now. Like you said, it's just going around stabbing people. That's what most people think. But not Kane Hodder. He's the only one that really put forth the effort to actually act. To actually try to make Jason something more than a guy in a mask. He was always involved completely in molding Jason into what he is. I think Resurrection did make more than Jason X. Halloween made 12 it's opening weekend. Jason made 6. Even though the Halloween series has turned into a gigantic pile of shit and Jason X was really good. I think the space thing just turned people off. It did with me but I watched it anyway. I expected it to be awful but it turned out to be the most faithful to the "rules" of Friday the 13th out of all the sequels. I thought it was friggin awesome. I wouldn't discount the amount of bootlegging that was going on either. The movie was delayed for nearly 2 years. By that time the bootlegs were everywhere for the taking and a lot of people that wanted to see had already seen it.
