Guest NazMistry Report post Posted September 5, 2002 Petty skirmishes could, and have in the past, spilled over into full-scale wars. I feel better knowing they have the very motivational reason of self-preservation to avoid it. God knows they don't mind killing each other. Once again that is a good point. I don't know, I guess my reason for disliking the situation is because I'm Hindu Indian and seeing as Pakistan is essentially under Military Control, I think that a Nuclear attck is not completely out of the question. But that is likely because I always expect the worst of things.
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted September 5, 2002 It's precisely because Pakistan is under military control that a nuclear strike won't happen. India would crush Pakistan in an instant in an all-out war; they've done so twice already, and once in a horribly embarrassing three-front time-limited engagement which they again won decisively. A nuclear strike would be devastating for both countries, but far more devastating for Pakistan, which is poorer, smaller, and much less populous than India. No one could understand this calculus better than the General currently in charge. It's in Pakistan's interests to keep engagement limited and small-scale, so that they don't have to compete with India on a logistical or economic front, which they can't possibly hope to do. Guest NazMistry Report post Posted September 5, 2002 Whree fo you get all this information? Here in Holland it's really hard to keep up to date with whats going on in India.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted September 5, 2002 Naz you're coming from a very emotional side of the issue. I'm not saying that you're totally wrong but it's very hard to be objective when you have a vested interest in what's going on over there. I had never thought of Marney's position, but now that I've seen it it makes a hell of a lot of sense. Plus with Pakistan trying to get on America's good side it is very unlikely that they would start a Nuclear war with anybody. That tends to get countries on our shit list pretty fucking quick. Yeah I know I'm coming from a Emotional side. But it's to be expected and I really do agree with a lot of the criticism that has been levelled against both India and Pakistan. Marney to her credit has also pointed out the real deal with some of the issues that get little acknowledgement on Dutch TV. Most of the news here is about European problems, and there aren't any Asian braodcast channels here like Sont Ent Asia or Zee TV like in Britain, USA, and Canada. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted September 5, 2002 Just look around on the Net and you can easilly find American, Aisian, British, or whatever news you want. BTW if you live in Holland why are you in the Canaidian Alliance?

BTW if you live in Holland why are you in the Canaidian Alliance? The best sites for such info are in Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati etc. I can't read them so. I don't usually get involved in Current Events discussions anyway, I usually don't have adequate knowledge of current events. My dad is Canadian born so I'm in the Alliance. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted September 5, 2002 Ok, just wondering. I'm sure you can find English translations of those sites or stories.
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted September 5, 2002 The BBC South Asia page usually has fairly up-to-date information. I wouldn't get my Middle East or American news from that network, though.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted September 5, 2002 Whree fo you get all this information? Here in Holland it's really hard to keep up to date with whats going on in India. Don't let her fool you with all that government talk, Marney is really in a weird cult that not only seeks to castrate all men, but controlls certain aspects of world trade, and the porn industry. Either that or she's DrTom's drag queen persona, which is a theorem of mine in development. Anyway, back to being sensible, here's my compass report. Economic Left/Right: -3.38 Authoritarian/Libertarian: -5.08 Somewhere right around Ghandi, which is odd, because I could kick his ass. I wish that square wasn't full of wusses. Maybe if Genghis Kahn or something was around there, I'd be a lot more satisfied with those results.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted September 6, 2002 Economic Left/Right :4.12 Authoritarian/Libertarian:2.46 Right around Margaret Thatcher.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted September 6, 2002 yeah i'm right up there with ghandi as well. Economic Left/Right: -5.12 Authoritarian/Libertarian: -4.00 in fact, probably a little more extreme than ghandi. it's funny how a mysogonist and bigot like mr. rant calls me a name and we have a mini-current events discussion in the flaming folder. guess the two threads aren't that far off from each other. as for the original topic, i still see Anglesault as the most controversial poster. Guest MrRant Report post Posted September 6, 2002 I once referred to Lilith Fair as Bitch Fest
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted September 6, 2002 That's right. And you railed against Native Americans in a different thread, so I started referring to you as a "Native American-hating misogynist" whenever possible. I was just joking, of course, but I still don't see what the problem with Lillith Fair was. A bunch of women want to play music together without a bunch of testosterone-fueled frisbee-throwers around to ruin all the fun. No big deal. But then I'm accepting of a lot of things, which explains why I'm not one of the more controversial posters here. There's a shit storm brewing over Metal Ed, though. I can feel it. Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted September 6, 2002 I've referred to Lilith Fair as bitch-fest. And I like Sarah McLachlan. People just enjoy getting offended.

Guest Some Guy Report post Posted September 6, 2002 Well since you're Conservative, you *MUST* be a mysoginist and a bigot. Are there any other kinds?
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted September 6, 2002 I'm a conservative as well, and I vote Republican. I guess that makes me a misogynist female who has sex with other females. Quite a neat trick.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted September 6, 2002 Not too shabby. Other than the being female part I fit your description pretty well.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted September 6, 2002 There's a shit storm brewing over Metal Ed, though. I can feel it. !!!! Did something go down last night when I wasn't on? Metal Ed is a really funny poster, I'd hate to seem him turn out to be an asshole or something... did somebody try and mess with his Rock Box? Here's to hoping Metal Ed never dies... unless he's changed somehow since the first two days he was posting (which I somehow doubt).

Guest Kinetic Report post Posted September 6, 2002 You realize that I'm Metal Ed, right, Evenflow? I killed him off last night, but decided he might be useful in the future. Guest The Flying Dutchman Report post Posted September 6, 2002 My results: Economic Left/Right: -3.88 Authoritarian/Libertarian: -2.87 It's pretty close to Ghandi on the charts. Huh.

Guest DrTom Report post Posted September 7, 2002 My political compass scores: Economic Left/Right: 2.25 Authoritarian/Libertarian: 2.03 I'm in the same quadrant as Milton Friedman, though he's far more fiscally conservative than I. This is pretty consistent with where I expected to be, though I thought my Ecnomic score would be a little higher on the positive side.
