Guest Anglesault Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 From time to time, a feud gets heated to the point where a manager ends up taking to the ring with their charge or fighting an old client or what have you. Now, my question is, who was able to put on the best match(es) Point: People like Virgil and Chyna, who were essentially wrestlers that managed, don't count.
Guest Ozymandias Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 The manger Christ was born in was pretty bad-ass....
Guest gwf0704 Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 I agree, that manger kicked ass!!!! But manager I would guess Precious Paul Ellering as he used to wrestle. Also, havent all managers been wrestlers at one point in their careers??
Guest Some Guy Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 Bobby Heenan was the best I've seen. He bumped like a madman and never got any real offense in. He never showed anyone up in the ring and always put the face over.
Guest J*ingus Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 Sensuous/Scary/Sensational Sherri Martel. Talk about committed to your art. The only white woman in history to jump off the top of a steel cage... barefoot... onto Hogan... and let it be no-sold. She ruled.
Guest goodhelmet Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 The manger Christ was born in was pretty bad-ass.... bro the minute i saw the thread i thought the exact same thing!!! christ's manger is so much better than anyone else's manger!!! as for MANAGERS, the best wrestler who became a manager was Harley Race without a doubt! edit- ok i didn't read the first post. i was so taken back by the kickass manger of Christ!
Guest dreamer420 Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 I like Jim Cornette's trademark, bump over the top rope onto his ass but that was about all the skills that he had. My vote goes to either Bobby Heenan, who was a mad bumping machine or Beulah, whose match with Fonzie was a pretty good bloodbath.
Guest Will Scarlet Posted September 6, 2002 Report Posted September 6, 2002 I will have to go with Bobby Heenan as well. It was always fun to watch him bump around the ring.
Guest Slingshot Suplex Posted September 7, 2002 Report Posted September 7, 2002 Is Dallas Page the only manager who went from that to world champ?
Guest Spit Green Mist Posted September 7, 2002 Report Posted September 7, 2002 Nope... Johnny Polo/Scotty Flamingo/Raven too... But he was world champ in a different organization...
Guest Slingshot Suplex Posted September 8, 2002 Report Posted September 8, 2002 Yeah I blanked out on the Johnny Polo bit. Although Scotty didn't begin his career as a manager like Page did though. His was more wrestler to manager to wrestler. But he'll do
Guest razazteca Posted September 8, 2002 Report Posted September 8, 2002 Bill "Call It Down The Middle" Alfonso for the blade job and taking chair shots in ECW. Joel Gertner also
Guest Slingshot Suplex Posted September 11, 2002 Report Posted September 11, 2002 Madusa Micelli was a manager in the AWA.She managed Kevin Kelly briefly and whoever he was running around with.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted October 1, 2002 Report Posted October 1, 2002 Mr. Fuji was a wrestler long before he was a manager. He's even a former multi-time tag champ in the WWF. Even Jimmy Hart and Paul Diamond used to wrestle as skinny and worthless as they were. I'd say Heenan was the best, because he didn't mind looking like an idiot and sold his ass off to get the other guy over and could bleed like a stuck pig back in the day. He understood exactly why he was in that ring and what he needed to do. As far as the manager who had the best wrestling skills ever, it would have to be Lanny Poffo as the Genius or if you count AA as a manager when he was working as a 4 Horsemen associate in the late 90's. I also think Sherri is one of the most accomplished women wrestler's ever and never minded mixing it up, she approached being a manager who wrestled at times much like Heenan did.
Guest Y2BigJ Posted October 1, 2002 Report Posted October 1, 2002 I'd go with Beulah or Bobby The Brain. You Humanoids better say the same.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted October 7, 2002 Report Posted October 7, 2002 yeah i still feel for heenan after taking that hideous press slam from the warrior. Other than that, yamaguchi-san got decked by the babyface TAKA on the ramp and went over on his head, that was an INSANE bump for a manager. I don't think he ever wrestled did he? Brother Love, Heyman and Cornette were all pretty funny when having their asses kicked.
Guest CED Ordonez Posted October 9, 2002 Report Posted October 9, 2002 I could've sworn Heenan wrestled before becoming a manager. I'll still give him my vote though. Honorable mention to "Brother Love" for that time Ultimate Warrior came onto his show and beat the living bejeezus out of him with a variation of the old "clothesline-clothesline-shake the ropes-clothesline" routine. IIRC, he got stretchered out and wasn't heard from for the longest time.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted October 10, 2002 Report Posted October 10, 2002 i just watched an old survivor series the other day (5th? the one with the gobbledy gooker) And it was in all honesty pretty much crrrrrap apart from some bits with bret and a few spots in the jake's team/martel's team match but i noticed Heenan seriously has the best workrate of ANYONE on the entire show. He managed pretty much everyone, so got his ass handed to him in pretty much every match, usually going off the apron head first or over the rail. Great stuff.
Guest HartFan86 Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 Definately Bobby Hennan. Crazy bumper.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 Motherfucking Virgil in 1993 and before. As Vince in WCW, he sucked.
