From time to time, a feud gets heated to the point where a manager ends up taking to the ring with their charge or fighting an old client or what have you. Now, my question is, who was able to put on the best match(es) Point: People like Virgil and Chyna, who were essentially wrestlers that managed, don't count.

Bobby Heenan was the best I've seen. He bumped like a madman and never got any real offense in. He never showed anyone up in the ring and always put the face over.

as for MANAGERS, the best wrestler who became a manager was Harley Race without a doubt!

I like Jim Cornette's trademark, bump over the top rope onto his ass but that was about all the skills that he had.

 

My vote goes to either Bobby Heenan, who was a mad bumping machine or Beulah, whose match with Fonzie was a pretty good bloodbath.

Mr. Fuji was a wrestler long before he was a manager. He's even a former multi-time tag champ in the WWF. Even Jimmy Hart and Paul Diamond used to wrestle as skinny and worthless as they were.

 

I'd say Heenan was the best, because he didn't mind looking like an idiot and sold his ass off to get the other guy over and could bleed like a stuck pig back in the day. He understood exactly why he was in that ring and what he needed to do.

 

As far as the manager who had the best wrestling skills ever, it would have to be Lanny Poffo as the Genius or if you count AA as a manager when he was working as a 4 Horsemen associate in the late 90's.

 

I also think Sherri is one of the most accomplished women wrestler's ever and never minded mixing it up, she approached being a manager who wrestled at times much like Heenan did.

yeah i still feel for heenan after taking that hideous press slam from the warrior. Other than that, yamaguchi-san got decked by the babyface TAKA on the ramp and went over on his head, that was an INSANE bump for a manager. I don't think he ever wrestled did he? Brother Love, Heyman and Cornette were all pretty funny when having their asses kicked.

I could've sworn Heenan wrestled before becoming a manager. I'll still give him my vote though.

 

Honorable mention to "Brother Love" for that time Ultimate Warrior came onto his show and beat the living bejeezus out of him with a variation of the old "clothesline-clothesline-shake the ropes-clothesline" routine. IIRC, he got stretchered out and wasn't heard from for the longest time.

i just watched an old survivor series the other day (5th? the one with the gobbledy gooker) And it was in all honesty pretty much crrrrrap apart from some bits with bret and a few spots in the jake's team/martel's team match but i noticed Heenan seriously has the best workrate of ANYONE on the entire show. He managed pretty much everyone, so got his ass handed to him in pretty much every match, usually going off the apron head first or over the rail. Great stuff.
