Guest mesepher Report post Posted September 7, 2002 now that I think about it... Frank Zappa's double (totally) live album "Make a Jazz Noise Here" was my last investment. A total steal for $15 too... especially since it is the Barking Pumpkin release.

Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted September 9, 2002 I got Trust Co. and 12 Stones at Target for 7 bucks each. I wouldn't have bought them otherwise for 13-15 bucks each elsewhere, but I've been in a no new CD rut for a while, so I figured why not. The Trust Co. CD is the definite better of the two (it has an extra MP3, a video and a making of the video on it) and they aren't half bad. 12 Stones, like I said, is good for a $7 CD but I would have been mad had I paid higher than what I paid for it. Its pretty bad, cause the last CD I bought prior to this was the Forcable Entry and prior to that..uh..I don't remember..
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted September 9, 2002 (is relieved that no one ridiculed his Techno/Dance/Trance purchases) I want to add that the moment that Sophie Ellis Bextor's album is available in the US, I am ROCKETING to the record store. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted September 9, 2002 I want to add that the moment that Sophie Ellis Bextor's album is available in the US, I am ROCKETING to the record store. I can imagine if anyone got out of your way it'd be murder in the checkout lane! OK, that was lame. I haven't bought any CDs in months. The last time I did was in late June when I bought Elvis Costello's Spike, Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade's Live Frogs Set 2, and... what was the third CD? I can't even remember, so it must either be so good I took it for granted or so bad I took it for granted, but when you're as consistently broke as me you take steps (downloading songs and listening to them for hours on end before even thinking of stepping into a music store) so that you waste as little money on crap as possible, so I doubt it's the latter. Oh! I remember now... I didn't buy it at the store, but about a month ago I bought the Ragdoll soundtrack to "test" how the Amazon Z-shops system works since it was only $2. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted September 9, 2002 This is honestly not me trying to be a dick, but is toughness how you measure the quality of metal albums? I know there are different key description words for different genres, and I was just curious if "tough" was one for metal. Rap: Phat, raw, bumping Pop: Kylielicious, catchy Mainstream rock: Ehh, I don't know this one. Dance: see Rap. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge I don't know if anyone else uses the term, but I use it to describe how a riff sounds more than anything. Let me think of a couple good examples.. Procreation of the Wicked-Sepultura's cover of Celtic Frost. The Verse riff to Dr. Seuss is Dead by Acid Bath. something like that. don't know how else to describe it really.. Pretty much the opposite of Jim Fear by Dillinger Escape Plan, which is just ridiculously technical.

I'd suggest picking up Set 1 for a broader sense of what the band is all about, and then on September 24th, pick up the studio album, The Purple Onion. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted September 11, 2002 Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera Not too shabby. oh man, I got stuck in a car one time with a couple buddies who were BLARING Blind Guardian and Gandalf. Maybe it's me, but I like to keep metal and hobbits separate. Still wicked guitar work on those albums, even if I can't take the vocals.

Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted September 16, 2002 While at the (dramatic music) BALLSTON MALL~!!!!!! I picked up White Blood Cells, which I had all the songs of on my computer but had yet to purchase the actual album, and This is Trance 2.0, which was three CDs and a fourth bonus CD not advertised on the cover. Four CDs = $17.88 The White Stripes = $19.88 What the hell? Geesh, talk about not giving a crap about techno. The dude at the counter agreed with me that a great part about loving techno is that it comes cheap. We also agreed that The White Stripes was worth every penny. Everyone knows how great White Blood Cells is, so I'll just say that This is Trance 2.0 OWNS. The second disc is the best, with all the big names on it(Digweed, van Dyk, Carl Cox) and mixed continuously by djRIB, who is very good himself. Guest NazMistry Report post Posted September 16, 2002 I just purchased Muse's 'Hullabaloo' about two hours ago. I'm halfway through CD1. So far it's pretty good. CD2 is just the live recording of Muse's October 2001 concert in Paris. Still good though.

I'd suggest picking up Set 1 for a broader sense of what the band is all about, and then on September 24th, pick up the studio album, The Purple Onion. The Flying Frog Brigade is coming out with a studio album?!?!?!?!?! SWEET! Yea, I bought Set 1 when it first came out, and I actually like it slightly better than Set 2 since, with the exception of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" its all original stuff (right?), plus, covering songs live is cool, but I've never been up on whole album covers like Set 2 and like when Phish covers the entire White Album live. It just seems really weird to me.
Guest mesepher Report post Posted September 16, 2002 The Flying Frog Brigade is coming out with a studio album?!?!?!?!?! SWEET! yep... they played a few songs from it in concert this summer... good stuff indeed. "The Whamola" features Les on this onestringed bass which he attacks with a drum stick. Yea, I bought Set 1 when it first came out, and I actually like it slightly better than Set 2 since, with the exception of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" its all original stuff (right?) "Thela Hun Ginjeet" is a King Crimson cover.. but everything else is stuff by Les. covering songs live is cool, but I've never been up on whole album covers like Set 2 and like when Phish covers the entire White Album live. It just seems really weird to me. actually, I like when bands cover stuff... only if done correctly. Les is a big Floyd fan, so. He was bound to do it right. Guest Incandenza Report post Posted September 17, 2002 The Jesus and Mary Chain's 21 Singles. A career spanning disc from the British group that pretty much launched the shoegazer style of music in the early 90's (called "shoegazer" because of the habit of many of its acts to stare at their feet while they played live on stage; the music was usually pretty pop songs drowned in layers of feedback). The first couple of tracks include earsplitting levels of guitar squall, which, if you can get past, leads to several terrific songs. Too bad only one of their albums is still in print. To put a modern touch on it, if you've ever heard of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club ("Whatever Happened to My Rock 'n' Roll?"), they shamelessley ape acts like the Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, etc. I actually like B.R.M.C., but really, they sound JUST LIKE those earlier bands.
