And this is why I hate the French

Recommended Posts

Guest red_file

What troubles me about this is that they're lumping violent and sexual films together. It makes sense that certain segments of the population would have issues with one of the two, but for a majority to have a problem with both seems unlikely.

Of course, I'll never understand why people try to prevent others from watching/doing what they themselves don't enjoy.

Their French that is why it doesn't make sense. I figured that out in the 3rd grade.

I'm trying to figure out if it's a homonym error or if you actually are blaming their use of the French language. Probably an error.

In a way, it makes sense what they're trying to do. I suppose a conservative old biddy should be able to flip through the channels late at night and not have to come across Rocco showing some chick gaping. But then shouldn't I be allowed to never have to see one of those stupid no-smoking "Truth" ads?

And then I wonder if this really is censorship. Are they trying to get rid of porn/violence entirely, or are they just trying to restrict the channels that it's played on? The article isn't entirely clear on that.

Society is strange.

But you don't live in France. So what does it matter if France gets rid of free Porn.

this CSA seems to be some kind of french moral majority-type group, i don't see any reason to take seriously a poll that was issued by a group that already has a bias against this stuff.

you mean some people are saying there's a correlation between pornography and sex crimes? jesus, nobody's ever put that idea forth in america!

you mean france's government wants to review their broadcasting standards? jesus, nobody's ever done that in this country! no kind of telecommunications act regarding tv content has ever passed through congress!

please. this is nothing new.

GodtheDog seems to be the only one here who gets the fucking point.

I'm fine with porn being shown on television, but if one thinks porn should be shown on television, why aren't you trying to get it shown on tv in this country instead of complaining that it might no longer be shown on tv in France? Maybe I'm missing the joke again, but this thread is retarded.

I think the "fucking point" is that they have something good and they're trying to get rid of it.

Therefore, they are dumb.

IT IS WRONG TO BE FRENCH

Yes.. see under the 1st commandment here in bold:

1. It is OK to call hooters 'knockers' and sometimes snack trays

2. It is wrong to be French

3. It is OK to put all bad people in a giant meat grinder

4. Lawyers, see rule three

5. It is OK to drive a gas guzzler if it helps you get babes

6. Everyone should car pool except me

7. Bring back the word stewardess

8. Synchronized swimming is not a sport

9. Mud wrestling is a sport

10. Ok, so there are 9 commandments

And Marney... did you read the sermon? If not you can here.

Great sermon, Reverend Father. But the best beer runs a dark, dark brown with a creamy white head.

Apart from that... hallelujah!

If I were to post a topic saying, "I Hate The Japanese" or "It is wrong to be Japanese", would I be banned?

Hey I'm a proud Francophone, there's nothing wrong with being French.

Well, seeing as how no one responded, I guess it would OK for me to make a post displaying my dislike for the folks from the land of the rising sun if, for example, some Japanese politician decides that he doesn't like hockey?

Cool.

(Of course, I'm being facetious. Heh, facetious, that's such a silly word.)

If that is your opinion then yes. If you look a lot of the posts are in jest. But in reality I don't care much for the French based on their attitude which isn't being a bigot its a justifiable reason.

That and there are a lot of moronic things the French do in my opinion.

If not liking someone based on attitude is being a bigot then lots of people are.

Do that mean Canada is to hockey what America is to porn?

I just find it funny that people can claim to hate the French (which is a nationality), and no one bats an eye. Yet, if someone were to say that they hated the Japanese, they get labelled as a racist.

I wouldn't label you one. I wouldn't label someone based on your own experiences. An example would be say you were mugged by Korean's and you said you didn't feel comfortable around them and didn't trust them when you were alone. That isn't racist IMHO.

A.  Why the fuck do you care what France does with their television broadcasting standards?

Community standards practices happen in waves. One community will enforce a type of practice and other communities will follow. Knowing what's going on in the rest of the world in regards to how they police their community standards is essential if one desires to see a pattern in the seemingly randomness of it all.

It's not particularly of interest that it's happening in France. What is of interest is that a community that had previously had a rather open stance towards sex and violence might now be reversing that stance. The reasons for such a change (if, in fact, an actual change is happening) is what interests me.

B.  Why the fuck are you blaming them for doing something that we already and always have done in this country?

I fail to see the logic in this argument. That I find fault with another country's practices does not mean that I am unaware, or untroubled by the fact, that these same practices occur here. Since it's a current change in France's stance on sexual/violent media, it's worth dicussing (I think).

I'm fine with porn being shown on television, but if one thinks porn should be shown on television, why aren't you trying to get it shown on tv in this country instead of complaining that it might no longer be shown on tv in France?

Rather a big assumption that no one here has tried to relax community standards in this country. Unfortunately, in a democratic society the individual is virtually powerless to influence the moral majority. My actions, and the actions of others, have always fallen on deaf ears.

If I were to post a topic saying, "I Hate The Japanese" or "It is wrong to be Japanese", would I be banned?

There's a slight, and annoying, difference. The Japanese belong to a different ethnic group than the French. Claiming to hate the French is usually viewed as claiming to hate French culture; claiming to hate the Japanese is usually viewed as claiming to hate the ethnic group as a whole, regardless of culture. It's the sad, sad pc world we live in.

Well, Japanese is really more of a pronounced ethnicity then French, though both are foremost nationalities. The Japanese are ethnically part Chinese and part Ainu (the aboriginal people of northern Japan and the Kurils, who are dark hairy Caucasians that barely linger around Hokkaido nowadays). The French are ethnically Mediterranean like the Italians and Catalonians, but are part Gallic, which is a fairer Caucasian. Also note that what I just said is quite a moot point really, because France is considerably more diverse than Japan. The Bretons, Provencals, Basques, Alsatians, the sizable Arabic population, and the true French are all very different in appearance, ethnicity, and language, whilst the population of Japan is very homogenous in these categories. Thus, as most western Europeans appear to look much alike, it is hard to be labeled a racist for hating a certain nationality of western Europe, while one cannot even say "the Japanese do tend to be good at math don't they?" without all the "YOU'RE A RACIST, YOU'RE A RACIST!" bells and whistles firing off.

I just hate how, in most Oriental countries, nationality = race, so if you dislike one of those countries for whatever reason (not that I myself do), you are generally labeled as a racist, while someone from France is open for abuse solely because they are part of the same ethnicity as most North Americans.

Its not because they are white that I get on the French. It is like I said in the above post and I agree with you. You should be able to make a social commentary on what you disagree with involving a different ethnic group without being called a racist or bigot like goodhelmet did to me in that other thread.

Edit: And another thing. If you laugh at a joke say about a ethnic race because it was funny does that make you a racist? I laught at jokes about whitey, honkey, cracker etc. But if I laugh at one about say a Mexican does that make me racist?
