Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted September 7, 2002 If Bret hadnt have been kicked silly, do you think he would have peaked now in his 40's like Flair did?
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted September 7, 2002 Bret was on his way down in WCW and his work was pretty subpar except for a couple matches
Guest godthedog Report post Posted September 7, 2002 flair hit his 'peak' in 89, and he was about 40 then. bret had his hottest streak of matches in 97, when he was 40. i don't think it's fair to judge bret's potential in the years after based on what he did in wcw, because he was totally unmotivated there and almost all his opponents sucked. if wcw had never picked him up, i'm sure he would've had at least a dozen more ****+ matches in him. he'd probably still be wrestling today, in a more limited capacity. Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 7, 2002 The Owen Tribute match from Nitro is the only match worth seeing from his WCW work. Really good match.
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted September 7, 2002 Bret Hart was a really average worker during his WCW days all his matches were just there. They were usually in the *1/2-**1/2 range, his only really good matches there were his match against Flair at Souled Out 98(***3/4), the aforementioned tribute match with Benoit(****1/2) and the rematch at Mayhem 99(***1/4)
Guest RazorxEDGE Report post Posted September 7, 2002 I think that he was probably "phoning it in" while he was in WCW. WCW gave him nothing to work with in terms of booking, creative direction, long-term feuds, etc. When he put the effort in -- i.e. vs. Chris Benoit on Nitro -- he had *great* matches. I think that he still had the ability to have ****+ classics, but that the motivation wasn't there. If you've ever seen his RF shoot, you know how frustrated he was in WCW. I think he also said in an interview once that he never liked the WCW rings. I think he said that working in a smaller, bouncier ring with steel cable ropes would stifle him as an artist. Guest RazorxEDGE Report post Posted September 7, 2002 On a side note, I give Bret vs. Flair from Souled Out '98 *** tops. It was the textbook Flair match. I sat there calling all the spots.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted September 7, 2002 Also you have to remember that he was wrestling stiffs most of 1995, and he missed almost all of 1996. Who knows what he would have done then? I would say his best year was 1994.
