Can anyone think of a pro wrestler whose retired and stayed retired when they weren't forced to because of injures? and why do wrestlers retire only to make a comeback so fast that the echos of their fairwell speech are still in the air?

I guess you could technically count Mick Foley as being a wrestler that retired and didn't comeback. He did come back for that WrestleMania Four-Way but I don't think he really wanted to do it. In my opinion, wrestlers come out of retirement mainly because the wrestling business (as many wrestlers have stated before) is very addictive. Money is probably a contributing reason as well.

I think that in the future...you'll see more people stay retired.

The guys who've tried to retire and failed...didn't make as much money as the guys who wrestle today.

Todays "stars" should make enough money to take an early trip out.

I say...give the Undertaker a pay increase!

Ricky Steamboat.

I can see Goldberg never wrestling again or Sting too.

I think that Steamboat had back problems.

I don't see Goldberg ever coming back.

I didn't even read the first post so yeah that eliminates Steamboat.

I still think Sting and Goldberg will never wrestle again.

If Vince brings back Goldberg, he'll get a huge ovation and then disappear like Warrior because he is a talentless goof.

As for most wrestlers, they go down fighting until someone forces them to retire. Hell, guys like Savage should have already retired and they are still trying to get signed. Just stay away. Let the young guys run with it already!

Exactly.

Savage has spent years destroying his gimmick...gove it up old man.

and how many times do you hear about Honky Tonk Man wrestling in some gym. I'll hate him forever (beat Steamboat) and I hope lawler fucks his wife someday!

I think many retired wrestlers miss the adrenaline rush of performing in front of crowds.  That is why many come back.  Also, a lot of the older stars didn't save their money, as someone already mentioned.  Couple that with the fact that most do not have a good education or job skills to fall back on, that leaves only wrestling.

Not to mention that Steamboat actually did come back from a retirement when he went to the NWA to have his classic series of matches with Flair after his WWF tenure ended.

Well, Steamboat retired for good in 1994 after he hurt his back in a match with Austin I think.  I haven't seen him since then, though I have heard he made appearances on indie shows.  I think Steamboat may well be the only wrestler that virtually everyone likes.

How about Marc Mero?  I haven't seen him wrestle since his career ending match with Gillberg~!

Arn Anderson retired even though he remained a on camera persona...but like Steamboat that was Injury based. Rick Rude stayed retired after his injury even though he remained on camera. Kevin Sullivan stayed retired...unless he did some Indy shows or something.

Roddy Piper never came back....never mind.

Sgt. Slaughter is pretty much retired. I know he does a match or two every year or so, but to me that's no big deal. So far Bret Hart hasn't wrestled (Injury related, but still retired). I hope Goldberg never does come back, he's got his money and I don't think he really liked wrestling anyway.
