Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted September 9, 2002 The A's lead by only 2 games. Which is amazing considering they've won 22 out their last 23 games. The Angels are on a 9 game winning streak.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted September 9, 2002 this reminds me of that Snickers commercial where the guy is painting the Chiefs endzone but spells it Chefs. A player says, "Nice work, but who are Chefs?" Angels, not Angles. Anyway...I dont think the Angels can catch the A's but I suppose stranger things have happened and could happen again.. Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2002 The Angles should win. Kurt and Eric are the best brother duo since Joe and Vince DiMaggio.

Guest treble charged Report post Posted September 9, 2002 How far back are the Mariners now? I'm completely out of the loop and haven't looked at a newspaper in days.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted September 9, 2002 The A's have better pitching, IMO. Im impressed that they were able to keep pace with the A's through their 20 game winning streak, but I think it will be the pitching that makes the difference. I think if the playoffs started today it would be New York vs Anaheim and Minnesota vs Oakland. I really don't wanna see Oakland New York Part 3, because the A's will Choke against them and the Yanks will be in the WS.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Isn't Anaheim the only team in the AL to have a winning record against the Yankees since '98? If any team has a shot at beating them in a 5 game series, I think they do.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted September 9, 2002 The A's superior pitching should carry them to the AL west lead. The thing is though, it is such a close race that one or two slip ups by either team could seal their fate. As long as the A's and Angels keep winning like this, they will BOTH end up in the playoffs with one winning the west and the other running away with the Wild Card. Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted September 9, 2002 It's gonna be a great series, I'm glad ESPN is showing one of the games. But, yes - these two teams will make the playoffs. The Mariners are way out, and the way the A's and Angels have been playing, I don't think anyone can catch them. Its a hard call in which who will win the divison, or wildcard - but I'm just gonna say it stands like it is right now, and the Athletics win the Div, as the Angels win the WC. And .. one of the three (twins, a's, angels) better beat the Yankees, or I'll just give up ..
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted September 9, 2002 The Yanks shows isgns of fading, though. I think that that A's are one fo the best teams in baseball. The wildcard could go to either the A's or the Angels. It's scary knowing how good the Mariners are, and they might not even make the playoffs. I hope that the standings stay this way (even though the SOX won't make the playoffs) just because of the 1st round matchups. Yanks v. Minnesota Oakland v. Anaheim (Oakland has the better record, by 1 game) Now that's quality baseball. I don't really follow Nat'l League ball, so I don't know about any of that. I care about AL. Guest treble charged Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Have they changed the rules now so that teams can play other teams within their division in the first round now?
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted September 9, 2002 I don't think so.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted September 9, 2002 I'm pretty sure they didn't. It would be Twins/Athletics and Angels/Yankees
Guest treble charged Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Yeah, I didn't think they had. Oh well, don't go too hard on Mr. bleedthesKY27, he is a Sens fan, you know.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Well, that's what I get for coming here first thing after I get up. I saw that the A's were leading the Yanks in the best record standings, and thought in my sleep deprived mind that it meant that the #1 team played the wild card winner. My bad. Oh and Treble, I wouldn't talk if I were you...

Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted September 12, 2002 I'm watching the game right now and man... Tony Gwynn has the GEEKIEST voice I've ever heard. And yes, I know he's always sounded like that, I just never noticed how bad it was until tonight.
