Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Hey, I recently saw Rage in the Cage, and I was wondering exactly where I could get tapes covering the build-up to that match, and especially Las Cachorras Orientales' WWWA Tag Title win. I'd like to see a lot of this footage, as it seems like it was a really hot feud and I've heard a ton of hype about the chaotic brawls that took place around this time. Concerning the cage match itself and the events following: I've heard they had already left AJW and were still the tag champs when it happened, and the WWWA tag titles weren't on the line. Did they ever lose the titles back, or just vacate them? Did the cage match have any special stip to it concerning Mita/Shimoda and the titles? Any help would be, as always, much appreciated. Guest Jubuki Report post Posted September 9, 2002 I had a comp made, but I can't exactly trade it to you. The Super Heel Review I did last fall/winter pretty much covers the key matches. Essentially all the big tags that played in to LCO vs. U*TOPS made it on the '97 comms, partly because the matches were big draws and partly because there were so few comms compared to previous years thanks to the money problems. And no stips, no belts, just pride.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Check the RSPW archives on Google. Lorefice wrote a lot about AJW back in 1997. Here's something interesting I found: AJW Stoops To Having a 17-Year-Old Bleed The 7/19 issue of Weekly Pro had photos of the WWWA tag title match from 7/11 in Hakodate where Mima Shimoda & Etsuko Mita successfully defended the titles against Kaoru Ito & Momoe Nakanishi. Both Ito and 17-year-old rookie Nakanishi juiced big time in this match. I can't recall an AJW rookie, during the 90s at least, spilling blood in a match, but on the first page, her face was literally a crimson mask. I thought it was bad enough when FMW and Jd' were having the underage women bleed, but it's much sadder to hear that AJW has also stooped this low.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 10, 2002 Hmm...being a total newb to the entire Joshie world myself, it would be presumptuous for me to comment, but it seems like the move was neccesary, not only to fully portray LCO's ruthlessness in dealing with their victims, no matter what age, but initiating Momoe into the fued. She was showing great potential even at 17, and, if anything, taking a beating and blading like that probably did a lot to convey her as a true fighter. Still, I can also understand Lorefice's disliking for that levle of violence. Either way, I'm deffinitely going to be getting more AJW from that era. Mita and Shimoda were just such great heels, it's almost scary.
Guest wolverine Report post Posted September 10, 2002 You also want to get AJW's TV from last summer if you haven't seen it yet. It's the best stuff I've seen in years - with Ito's matches with Toyota on 8/17 and Momoe on 9/16 being fantastic (#2 and #1 respectively as my 2001 MOTY). Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 10, 2002 I haven't gotten around to seeing it, mainly because I'm unsure what to get. I'll deffinitely try to track down Ito/Toyota and Ito/Nakanishi. I've heard a lot of hype about the late 2000 stuff, too.
