Guest HVilleThugg Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Hey gang... The WFCC needs your help. I can't speak for Stubby or King, but with the roster becoming robust again, we on WFCC have been rather bogged down with matches to mark. A lot of times, we have 3 matches a piece, andly four. If one of us can't mark, it's really a bear on those left over because with 8-10 matches per show, that's a lot of marking. Also, with all this marking, the markers have to send matches in rather late, and thus, delaying the show and giving the show's poster (mainly me for Storm) a huge headache. I look at the JL and the JL has like 5-7 markers...meaning that all the markers don't have to work every show. As it stands now, if everyone shows up, that's 6 matches to read, not including if it's a 3-way or whatever. So far, Stubby has been taking the brunt of this...marking 4 matches a lot of times. So, I'm asking...if there are any reliable veterans out there that are no longer active, we could really use your help marking matches. I'd love to see a situation where markers only had 1 match per show...2 at the most...or even having shows off from marking. I think we're a good ways away from that, but I know there's some people who are retired that still hang around here. I'm sureStubby wouldn't have a problem with this, so...we could really use your assistance around here. Post here or drop me a PM if you can help out. Now, to all the active WFers... Stop asking for so many extensions. I don't know about Stubby or King, but I don't think I've ever told anyone "no" on an extension request...and I don't want to start having to because if I tell you "no", you're just going to no show. This goes back to what I was talking about above...marking matches is a tedious process...and the more extensions we give, the longer it takes us to mark and later the show is and more of a headache the person posting gets. It's getting to the point where I'm giving eveyrone who's sending me matches an extension by like 5-6 hours beacuse they all PM me the night before asking for it. So, I ask that everyone try to get your matches in more on time...I'm sure Stubby and King would agree that it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you...and good night. What? It's not bedtime? Well it should be!! Da "dammit I'm tired" H
Guest El Luchadore Magnifico Report post Posted September 9, 2002 *raises hand* I dunno if being active disqualifies me, but if it doesn't, I'd be happy to take a match or two each show.
Guest HVilleThugg Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Well, ELM...I wouldn't say it disqualifies you...but I was looking for inactive people. The reason: I tried marking while I was active, and it really took its toll. Because, knowing how we all wait till the day of to finish up our matches...it's tough to turn around and mark matches after that. I'll keep you in my back pocket in case we need you...for instance...next monday I can't mark anything as I'm going to the Redskins/Eagles game that night. So, if no inactive people want to mark or whatever, we may need you then. Yeah...how aobut that...you can be our emergency marker... WHEE! Da "thinking..." H PS - or...perhaps you'd like to give ol' HVT a title shot...and maybe I'll make you a full time marker?
Guest El Luchadore Magnifico Report post Posted September 9, 2002 No, no, emergency marker sounds fine.
Guest Kibagami Report post Posted September 9, 2002 I guess I could do some emergency marking, if it comes to that. Not like I'll be asleep before 1am anyway. By the way....if so many people are asking for such late extensions, why not simply push the due times back that five or six hours? I can't speak for everybody else, obviously, but my schedule is busy as all hell right now, to the point that I should be editing the main event instead of offering my services as an emergency marker. Seriously, though, with a 2-hour gap between work and classes, I can't usually get my matches in until 8 or 9pm Eastern. I know that puts a burden on the markers, but I simply can't get matches in before that nine times out of ten. Again, I can't speak for everyone, but I know that a couple of people have expressed similar concerns. Just something else to think about, I suppose. S.
Guest HVilleThugg Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Well Silent... I disagree. Pushing the due times back will only ensure that the markers get the matches at 8 or 9 at night, like they are now. The due time is more for the markers so that they can have the core of the day to mark the matches. If we pushed it back, we're not taking into account that markers have lives too. Basically, we don't know when markers have time to mark during the day, so by giving them the bulk of the day, they have a better chance of fitting it into their schedules. Having matches due late gives far less room for maneuvering there...and would create more of a headache for markers and bookers. Also, given the history of the fed, making due times later would just prompt people to ask for later extensions. If it's due at 6 or 7, people will still wait till the last minute and ask for extensions to 10 or 11. At least now, they're only asking for extensions unil 6 or 7... It's really important that the markers be able to choose when they mark based on their schedule that day because, unlike the writers, they don't have several days to work on it. Guest Chuck Woolery Report post Posted September 9, 2002 I'll mark if you get that desperate... I've been around a lot, and I usually have from 3-9 on weekdays and all night on weekends, so... I dunno. Like I said, if you get that desperate... Mike'll do it.
Guest Longdogger_Pete Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Hey, Thugg, I could mark for Smarkdown if you need me, since I don't write for it.
Guest HVilleThugg Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Ok, let me clarify a little bit... The other reason we want inactive people is that when active people mark matches...it creates a conflict of interest. I know eveyrone is repsonsible and mature to not let those conflicts get in the way...but they are still a reality. And, to safeguard ourselves from future arguments and issues, it's better if inactive people mark. I mean, in a bind, we can certainly use all of you...but as far as a more permanent marking position, it's just better to have an inactive person do it. It just eliminates the question of conflict of interest altogether. Da "not trying to insult anyone....but....still..." H
Guest Chuck Woolery Report post Posted September 9, 2002 I'll retire. I suck anyway. j/k. But, as a JLer... it doesn't really conflict my interests. Unless, of course, a job seals my bumpage or something.
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Well, I can't mark, but I'm gonna try to stop doing matches last minute, as I've got a streak of like 4 weeks of extensions needed. It's usually because I get out of school at the due time, and get there hours before, but I'm gonna start trying to wrap up matches the night before. Sigh... back to writing. Almost done, Thugg, I swear.
Guest HVilleThugg Report post Posted September 9, 2002 No offense MVS, but in marking the WF, the writers and bookers need to have confidence in you...and it's hard for the writers to have that confidence in a JLer...ya know what I mean. It's not a knock against you or any JLer because you could very well be a good marker...however, it's a confidence thing. It would be kind of like Cutthroat marking JL matches...no one would have confidence that he knows what he's doing. Basically, for a JLer to retire and mark the WF, they would have had to been around as long as say...Xero or IL... It's just tough to tell a WFer that a JLer is marking their match...but then again, in a bind, we would certainly welcome the help. I think...we'll have to consult Stubby on that one I guess...I don't know. Da "wondering why he opened this can of worms" H
Guest Chuck Woolery Report post Posted September 9, 2002 No offence, Thugg... but I've been around about four months longer than IL.

Guest HVilleThugg Report post Posted September 9, 2002 I under-stand. It is wonder-ful that you are a-vail-able... but, the dash-es are ann-oy-in-g. Da "----" H
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted September 9, 2002 on extensions... some of us are in a pickle with school and such, so it is even hard for us to be even finish our match by the deadline. Hell right now i'm overdue but i've been bogged down with school work and i am still trying to send my match in
Guest Insanityman Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Yup, I've been around less than Mike... I'll hold back on the not witty joke I was going to make and say that JL'ers marking WF match sound really iffy to me. Now, let's play a very make-believe story and say that I got bumped. If I saw "Send match to: InsanityMan" (and let's pretend I'm someone besdies me) I'd feel fucking pissed. I'd feel like, even though for the most part it isn't true, that they'd have no clue what they're doing for marking.
Guest Chuck Woolery Report post Posted September 9, 2002 I'd say it's all about the talent, baby.. but, let's face it, the WFers own me. So, I just sit back. Relax. Hope to join the Marker Brotherhood. But I doubt it.
Guest Grand Slam Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Well HVT, if you are looking for markers just remember one simple fact... You can't spell "marker" without "Mark". Count me in big man, just give me a little warning before the first show I need to mark.

Guest HVilleThugg Report post Posted September 9, 2002 Ummm....Tod, you're doing JL marking...that's plenty. And like I said, we're looking for someone to do this on a more permanent basis. I'll keep you in mind for emergencies as well. Mark...you're on! You'll start marking on Smarkdown...assuming it's ok with Stubby that is. I"m certain he'll post his thoughts sometime tonight. Guest Angel_Grace_Blue Report post Posted September 10, 2002 Hey, I'm available for marking. I mean, I've got past experience, and I've got free time, especially since scrapping plans for a return once I remembered I suck. ::Nervous coughing all around:: What? I marked matches for uh...the ML, then that went down. Then I marked for JL, a few times, I think...then I moved up to the WF, where I held down those who defeated me. Plus, since I tell the leaguers in chat that I have pull over the markers, I'd now be telling the truth. C'mon, do it for the freakishly-white girls out there...or something.... !Seld00t

Guest HVilleThugg Report post Posted September 10, 2002 Yeah...sorry...I thought that I made it clear that new markers would have to be clearred through you. Oh well...guess I didn't make that clear. I don't know Stubby...I think we could use a 4th marker. I don't know about yuo and king, but with my schedule getting more hectic these days with school and work, it would probably help. I think it would be nice to have someone like Stevens in our back pocket for a sitiation like nenxt Monday when I won't be able to mark anything...leaving you and King with like 3-4 matches a piece. Then again, it's smarkdown, so there will probably be less matches anyway. I don't know...let's just see how it plays out. I"ll PM you later in the week if I think we'll need another marker for next monday or whatever. Although, I probably should have anticipated that everyone in the fed would say they would mark. Meh...it started conversation snd helped boost some post counts...so it wasn't a total loss. Da "always lookin' out fOr the little guy" H
