I don't know if you guys know about this or not, but on The Law yesterday, they reported that TSN in Canada would be airing a UWFi show at 8PM, right before Raw. From the way the guys described it, it sounds like a promotion with simulated shootfighting (ie. MMA-style with lots of groundwork and stiff strikes but with predetermined finishes) much like BattlARTS.

If anybody has any more info on this promotion, including anything from it's roster to it's history would be appreciated if they posted something in this thread.

I saw this the other day. It was from 1998, I believe. It was okay. I cannot remember much about the rosters though. I can remember that they had Dan Severn, Dennis Koslowski, Gary Albright, Nobuhiko Takada, who were the only guys I had heard of. I was quite impressed with Albright in it, as he practically destroyed some Japanese guy. It was a thing of beauty.

So do you know if this is an on-going series or will it just be the same show?

No clue. I would doubt it though. I remember a few weeks back, I believe they showed like kickboxing or something before Raw and I have yet to see that again. I would assume it will be the same episode I saw a few nights ago, then again, I would assume they would pick up more than one episode of it. Maybe they are going to have it be the lead in to Raw for awhile. The time slot before Raw seems like a largely dead time slot as it is, so if it gets decent ratings, maybe it will stick there for a bit.

Couldn't have been '98, UWF-i was on it's deathbed by then. Probably talking early 90's here. Albright was the top gaijin (foreigner) for UWF-i until Vader came around. Takada was their native ace.

UWF and UWF-i we're pretty much the precursor to Pride in Japan. It's completely worked though.

Here's a link to UWF-i's card listings. They're probably airing portions of the Budokan shows.

You guys are right it couldn't have been '98 UWF-i, since the last UWF-i show was run on 12/27/96.

It looks like tonight's show wasn't the same one as Will saw last week. None of the wrestlers he listed in last weeks show were in it except Takada. I really hope they continue the series next week. The wrestling is great and totally makes my Monday night wrestling-viewing a bit more gratifying. Oh, and the copyright credits at the end read '1994'.

I liked it. It was better than anything they had on Raw. I really hope this is an ongoing series instead of weekly choice of filler before Raw for TSN (ie. Fitness routine competition one week, kickboxing the next)

They must have something planned. I got a poster in the mail from Bell Express VU this morning and it has the TV schedule for WWE. Tough Enough 3 is airing at 7:30e, leaving a full hour before RAW

I went to TSN.ca and checked what they had planned for Monday before Raw for Sept. 16, and it's another Fitness Canada Pageant. Bah! This was nothing but a tease I guess. :(

That sucks. Yet another puro show being run-over by a bunch of Chynas. :(
