Futurama on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim in 2003

Futurama gave FOX network the middle finger, packed its bags, got the kids, and went to Cartoon Network.

Starting January, 2003, Futurama will be a feature of Adult Swim on Cartoon Network which will, at that time, possess cable rights to all 72 episodes.

The general manager and Executive Vice President of Cartoon Network called Futurama “a perfect fit for Adult Swim… We could not be happier about having the opportunity to showcase the brilliant work of Matt Groening.”

The 2002 Emmy nominated show (outstanding animated series – less than an hour) debuted on the FOX network in 1999. The show is about a dim witted pizza deliverer, named fry that was accidentally frozen, only to be thawed out in the year 3000, who then joins a delivery service that was already operated by, Leela, the Cyclops pilot of the delivery space ship, and a crass robot named Bender. The fifth season premieres on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. (ET) on FOX.

Amendment (6:36pm): According to a site called “Can’t get enough Futurama” the rights are only to show reruns. They also point out that the $10million recived for the rights could go to help cover as much as 20% of the production costs that FOX pays which may encourage them to buy more episodes.

The best part is that putting Futurama next to shows like Brak, Sealab, Aqua Teens and Harvey Birdman will show everybody how much Futurama friggin sucks.

HEYYYYYY I LIKE FUTURAMA, seriously though Futurama is a decent enough show on Fox, it isn't that great when you compare it to the Simpsons (In it's glory days not today's watered down version) or even Family Guy but it still gets a few chuckles out of me. How it's gonna stack up against Brak, Sealab and Harvey Birdman I don't know. It'd be best to place Futurama early in the night right after Home Movies or something like that.

Family Guy isn't fit to hold Futurama's jock. It also isn't fit to hold the jock of The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Home Movies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Danger Mouse, The Flintsones, Fish Police, Pokemon, Capitol Critters, Muppet Babies, A Pup Named Scooby Doo, The Jetsons, He Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, She RA Transformers....

But the question is: does Rosie hold Bender's jock?

Seriously though, Futurama's all right, but where are they going to put it in the line-up? Take out some of the "Adult Swim repeats" that occur later? 'Cuz if they take out any "Adult Swim originals" it'd suck, unless its "Home Movies".

God, I hate Family Guy...anyway, I like Futurama, and I think it'll be a fine addition to the Adult Swim line up. If I were picking which show gets the axe, it would be Brak, because I haven't liked him since his Cartoon Planet days.

Yea I'm not a big fan of post-CP Brak either, but he's one of their most popular and marketable characters so they probably wouldn't ax him. But they probably won't ax any shows, just rearrange the line-up a bit, which pisses me off because ever since they rearranged it last time a few weeks ago I still can't find out when the hell "Mission Hill" is on and that's my favorite show in the line-up.

Given the constant shuffling of its time slot, if any show is canned, it may be Mission Hill.

We can at least hope.

But I like "Mission Hill"... it's made me laugh a whole lot more than "Baby Blues". Oh well, not everybody likes my favorite shows, if that were true they never would've cancelled "Hardball" or whatever it was called ;)

I agree with you on Baby Blues. I hate every single 30 minute show on Adult Swim. I only like Brak, Sealab, Birdman and Space Ghost. I don't even bother to consider those other crappy shows part of Adult Swim.

BUT....I did see one thing on Baby Blues that made me laugh for hours. It was when the kid told that joke.

Have you heard about the new sexy pirate movie? It's rated ARRRR!!!

That was just hysterical.

At the time.

Man, I love Futurama. I can't wait for the season 1 box set, assuming it ever gets released in North America.

What's with the Family Guy hate? It may not be as "deep" as the Simsons, but it is still very funny.

I also like Futurama and have the series 1 box set that C.H.U.D. is still waiting for.

No argument here. Family Guy is the funniest thing that's ever been on television if you ask me.

I miss Family Guy so much. Watching it on my computer just isn't the same and sadly it looks like the seasons will never be released on DVD in North America. As for Futurama, it's OK, but I like King of the Hill more.

Why does everyone dog on Mission Hill? I mean, it isn't bizarre, pointless stuff like Aqua Teen and Brak, but it IS the most underrated TV show around. Too bad no one appreciates it.

Actually, there was an announcement last month on the Family Guy website about season 1 being released on DVD early next year. I haven't heard much since, but hopefully it will still happen.

You do not mock the Aqua Teen: Hunger Force and get away with it.

I don't find the Aqua Teens funny. Carl is funny. He's the star of the show. Him and the Mooninites.

Hey man, I LOVE "Mission Hill", as mentioned earlier above. I laugh out loud more at that than any of the other Adult Swim shows, and that's a fact. Bizarre/nonsense/irony funny is still watchable and usually even enjoyable, but I just never find myself laughing out loud at it. I like shows/movies that make me laugh out loud (I refuse to type LoLZ~!@, maybe under the Punk Princess screen name, but this is a semi-serious argument), and "Mission Hill" is, for whatever reason, one of those rare shows that can. Unfortunately, it says on their website they probably will never release it on home video or DVD :(

I personally don't think Aqua Teen Hunger Force is very funny either, in a bizarre/nonsense/irony sense or a laugh out loud sense. And have you seen the painful pimping that are the Aqua Teens 1-800-COLLECT commercials? ::cringes::
