I don't think you guys are understanding the point that Snowfan is trying to make about all this.....it's not that it was so much more offensive than the other T&A as far as what they actually did. The last thing Vince McMahon needs to do is piss off a certain group. The PTC finally left him alone.....is he trying to replace the void and get GLAAD to try and take his sponsors away? Wrestling isn't as strong as it was when the PTC was fighting it. Ratings suck, fan interest (marks) is way down, shows and buyrates and merchandise aren't generating near as much revenue. This is a time where he should be trying to rebuild it or revamp it, not run off its hardcore fans too by putting this shit on the air.

Actually, I thought that was the only humorous part of the segment. Not like I was expecting much, as I've learned to brace myself for the worst anytime I hear that raunchy music start up.

 

It could have really helped if Bisch left and only interrupted when the lingerie started to come undone. But yes, it did sort of reek of Russo-ism. However, they were advertised as being rather slutty and that's what happened. No lesbians I know start publically making out on demand, and I don't think anyone else realistically expects them to either.

 

Again, a trashy segment, but it did it's job in getting people talking without offending anyone outside of the severe right-wing. Although then again, it sounds like you were. I know I wasn't, but I just wish they didn't give it so much airtime.

That was my biggest bone of contention throughout the whole thing. They spent the entire night hyping it, as if it was more important than the actual wrestling. Not exactly the best way to promote your core product... unless Vince is starting his own Spice Network...

 

As for the whole GLAAD concern, I had read reports that they had no problem with the ChuckaBilly scenario, since they're not really being portrayed in a demeaning or derogatory fashion. And the HLA Debacle probably won't register a blip on the "gaydar", since it was more of a "lipstick lesbian" tease than a full-out close-up quadruple lip-lock (if you know what I mean) production. Primetime shows that kind of stuff all the time, and in heartier doses.

 

I don't think the 3-Minute aftermath would ruffle GLAAD's boas either, unless they really stretch the truth and paint it as a full-bore live TV gay-bash. I can't say for sure, but I don't recall anyone in the stands yelling "Kill the Queers" of "Die Dykes Die" during the segment (more like "Damn Jethro, they's gonna swap spit! Yee haw!!!) so Vince and Co. might be in a safe harbour.

 

I think GLAAD would be more up-in-arms if they used stereotypical butch lesbians in lumberjack regalia, then administered the beatdown. This country tends to embrace the SarahMichelleGellar/SelmaBlair-type exchanges over the RosieO'Donnell/MartinaNavratilova variety, so that scenario would be more construed as advocating violence toward the "undesirable" lesbian population.
