The ONE and ONLY Billy & Chuck "Wedding" Thread

Recommended Posts

Guest AlwaysPissedOff

Okay, we're just asking that all the B/C stuff stay in one thread before it gets out of hand, so just post all thoughts of it here, so we can keep the board running smoothly.

FAIR WARNING: Any new threads started about this subject will be deleted.

It seems I'm the only person who is going to enjoy this angle. I doubt it'll have the "touch of class" necessary to make it anything other than insulting, but I have high hopes for this one. Why? Because to me, the fact that gay marriage is used in something as silly as a wrestling angle is an indication that its become more "accepted" an idea in pop culture. Maybe I'm totally wrong, it depends on how things go down, but I hope I'm not.

I'm looking forward to it. I figure.. whatever happens, I'll see some aftereffects of it on Monday. In homophobic LDS Utah.

Hmmmm.... this is true about the Utah house show. Do you think the WWE will use that as a "testing" for how well the angle went over before taking it to a next level. IS there a next level? I mean when you get married that's a pretty big thing... wrestling angles usually aren't pretty big things, so where would you go next for Billy & Chuck? From what's already been said it seems probable that The Good Reverend D-Von will get involved somehow, but to what extent?

there is always a chance that this is a swerve. something to happen during the supposed event. maybe Find out that They cheated on each other with Rico or something, or just something stupid happen that just destroys Billy & Chuck as a tag team. and Make them wrestle at The next PPV.

Thus making Unforgiven so far

Brock/Taker

RVD/HHH

Angle/Benoit

Chuck/Billy

and maybe even Kane/Bradshaw/Book Dust vs. Storm/Christian/Test/Regal or Book Dust vs. Storm/Christian for the Tag Titles and Kane/Bradshaw vs. Test/Regal although that match happened on RAW so it probably won't happen.

Evenflow, I wish I had your optimism. I agree there's a slight -slight- chance of this not totally sucking but.. meh.

although also true that the fact that wrestling, that high brow of culture, is promoting a gay wedding. That is kinda huge even if it's the stupidest fucking angle ever.

actually, I'm willing to give it a chance for many of the same reasons.

WWE needs to increase its viewers in ways hasn't before. Now, it has the attention of a whole segment of the population that has a lot disposible income to burn (since it's not so easy for gay couples to have kids). Handle this right, and they might get themselves some new fans.

am i the only one thinking it'll be a swerve and the road dogg will return, and they will reform the new age outlaws? because the wwe has gone on a lot of nostaliga trips lately

Ha..... Ha..... Ha.

I sense that the entire mainstream crowd that's gathering up to see this thing will leave shocked and appalled by the night's end, but that's what they get for assuming that this industry has any sort of class.

I don't think Vince will be getting any discrimination lawsuits over this (I mean, he keeps Patterson employed, as well as Bradshaw & the other closet cases), but it seems that a bunch of casual viewers hopped on board excpecting a "gay = OK" conclusion.

Vince markets to 14 year old boys and men who want to live some sort of inflated macho lifestyle. The clock on homosexual acceptance will be set back about 15 years here. So while the publicity will almost certainly get up and disappear after Thursday, it's still all about money & ratings for the company.

I think HHH will interrupt the wedding and reveal that he married Billy Gunn the night before in Vegas.

I think they should have Brock Lesnar stop it.

Destroy Billy, Chuck, Rico, everyone who's there. Destroy the wedding set. Destroy the stage. Just kill and crush and maim.

Of course that'd get him over as a face.

If the two actually do get "married," I'll be shocked. There has to be some sort of swerve here. The best thing for everyone would involve Rico turning on both guys, destroying the ceremony, and getting a big singles push out of it. I can dream, I guess.

I agree with Kinetic. There will be some sort of swerve. When is the last time a wedding angle goes off without a hitch in wrestling? It doesn't happen. Someone is going to interrupt.

D-Von is a terrible choice to interrupt, though, seeing as how he's a jobber that no one cares about or wants to see pushed. I put my faith in the WWE creative team to come up with something better than that.

Push Rico, damnit!

I also hope we don't get any Batista interrupting to get revenge on DVon. Talk about a waste.

Please... Please... Do not use this angle as an oppertunity to push a HOSS.

From a legal/ethical/public opinion standpoint, I don't think Vince would interject the wedding with an all-out beatdown by anyone, especially someone like Lesnar. Something about a blond-haired, blue-eyed Aryan poster boy taking the stuffing out of three effeminate pretty boys would get a fair share of raised eyebrows (not to mention a plethora of angry phone calls).

Me thinks an internal strife scenario is the best bet, most likely Rico siding with one of the two, culminating in a 1-on-1 (wrestling match, that is) at Unforgiven, especially given the name of the PPV.

As far as Road Dogg is concerned, he (and Honky Tonk Man, incidentally) was actually approached by Vince to attend the wedding, but neither side came to terms. (Read: Road Dogg made one too many demands, and got a swift heave ho from Mr. McMahon).

I personally hope the media doesn't spoil the results, as I am somewhat intrigued by how this all plays out. Not so much from a wrestling standpoint as an "oh look, a train wreck" standpoint...

;)

I would like to say that not everyone living in Utah is a homophobe. Thank you.

(But I'm actually from Washington; what the hell do I know?)

I personally will go so far as to cheer Billy & Chuck this Monday. Wish me luck... Because I may just get my ass kicked by SOMEBODY.

BTW : Utah is the worst test market for ANYTHING. AT ALL. This place is full of rednecks.

EDIT:

The press will no-sell them if the spoilers are legit I bet depending on what Glaad says....

(*covers ears*) La la la la la... I'm not listening~!

Honestly a realistic potrayal of homosexuals is nearly impossible in the WWE. It's a theater of caricature.

You just can't be a southener in te WWE, you gotta be a Hillbilly. Can't just be from Englance, gotta be a royal snob.

So any sort of type is going to be blown to extremes. Every cliche the homosexual community has been saddled with will be magnified. As theater tatics it's debateable. As a role model sitution, it just doesn't sound good.

Yea, but you can say the same thing about shows like Will & Grace and Queer as Folk as well, and there was never any real severe backlash from any of those.

Yeah, but this is pro wrestling, the red-headed stepchild of the entertainment industry, where everyone is a caricature, no matter how well done. The shows you mentioned above will always be on a higher plane than pro graps. No matter what the rest of the industry is doing, wrestling will always have the microscope trained that much more on itself, engendering harsher criticisms and demanding higher retributions.
